Title: screamer pipe
Post by: rx7danny on May 12, 2011, 04:36:40 PM
having a screamer pie is fab till you want to do track days
is it possible to block it off with say a plumbing fitting temporarily
would this do any damage or hinder performance
thanks in advance of your replies

You could get another downpipe and swap it out, or get the screamer plumbed back in again further down your exhaust but DO NOT block it.

The screamer is geting rid of the wastegate gasses if it cant vent the wastegate gases the turbo will spin istelf into oblivion. With no where for the gasses to go the ths gasses will be forced through the exducer, so the turrbo will just keep boosting higher and higher until something, probably your rotortips, fails catastrophically.

Magny cours, usual limit is 100db bear in mind my FD is 103db non screamer, though it depends on the Trackday.

I know Magy cours also have unresticted events but they might be proffessional or proper organsied races only.

When I get an external wastegate put on my FC it will be plumbed in, its too loud to have a screamer pipe for tracks

As said, do not block it or you negate the whole point of the wg, and make as much boost as your tub wants.

If you don\'t want to plumb it back in, it\'s worth investigating to see if there\'s room to run a seperate system with a small motorbike silencer for the wg - all the flow, less of the noise :)

Looking at my downpipe, theres a blocked off pipe going into it and the car has a screamer. I can\'t imagine it being very hard to have a pipe that you could fit the day before an event that plumbs the screamer back in. This would be idea, i guess you may need another map for each case though

rotaries with screamer pipes sound epic, I\'d do anything i can to keep mine!

Screamer pipes are amazing alright!!

I love when some sunday driver gets out of your way eventually and as you go past him squeeze the loud pedal and deafen them as you pass :chat

This is what is usually done with aftermarket manifolds, there is basically a divider put between the 2 outlets, one goes to the exhaust, one goes to atmosphere:

Magny-Cours

MAGNY-COURS!!!
Please, people, show it some respect and spell it right :D

If you plan on doing track days, it\'s worth looking for a more \'complete\' solution than just hoping and crossing digits, as it\'s an issue you\'ll come up against again and again.

I\'ll let you know if i like the noise when i get my car back. Im definately going to get the screamer plumbed back into the system as i want to do some track days but also so i can run the screamer if need be.
