Title: What apex seals to choose?
Post by: jimmydanny on May 11, 2011, 06:04:07 PM
Hi!

Some time since I popped in here last time. I wondered, as my two of my apex seals on the front rotor broke (or some rotor to iron-seal maybe), and I got barely any compression on the front rotor, I need to rebuild my engine.

The stock gasket and seal set works, but the apexes, I think two-piece 2mm is better than the 3-piece, and as far as I know, Mazda swapped back to 3-piece seals now late 2010. That makes stock Mazda two-piece 3-piece, if I am unlucky when ordering. We don\'t want that, do we?

Also, two-piece withstand the 300bhp I will get out of the engine later on.

I\'m not too clues up on 2 and 3 piece seals. But the stock engine and tub should be able to achieve 300 at the fly.

Also worth mentioning that the seals in the rx8 aren\'t necessarily the best type. They tend to cause a lot if damage when they let go

I know the 2-piece last longer, and the 3-piece often breaks to cause more damage than the 2-piece. Afaik, that is...

2 piece mazdas is the way forward.. many engines back in aus have seen over 5-600hp with the right tune..

stock 2mm 2 piece is fine for 300bhp , 3 piece gives a slightly better compression. I would stick 2 piece , just make sure your tune is good so not to pop again
