how about wiring it to the switched live for your stereo?

i thought about that, i was unsure if too much power would be running thru it tho, and may need to fuse it, obviously dont want to be needing a fuse.

ive thought about using the illumination wire from the stereo, just trying to figure out what wire it is tho, dont know if it will work.

any further comments welcomed

theres 3" inches of wire from the back of the gauge, your telling me that everyone who has fitted a boost gauge has used a fuse,? i didnt think that sorry.

when ever i had a boost gauge in any of the 200sx\'s i had, a simple \'cut\' into the wires from the ashtray light, bit of solder.. hey presto, illuminating boost gauge.

i dont want it powered from the ignition, thats how i assume using the head unit would work?? i want it working from my lights.

i never mentioned i was happy with fires, and i also dont want to have to pay someone to do it for me. the whole point of me getting this rx7 was to learn along the way and use the forum for help.
if all the help you get is someone saying, go get someone else to do it. ummm, not much point in using the forum.

sorry, rant over.

could anybody else help instead of telling me to get someone else to do it :)

you should be able to run the positive wire to the headlamp switch in the cowling thats what i did and its been fine, as soon as you put the park lights on it gets power and illuminates. I think there are three wires a Green, White and black i also earthed it else where.

But you ain\'t doing that without removing the instrument cluster

i thought that to.

i nearly had the instrument cluster off earlier, i freed it from the front but, it was getting stuck near the windscreen and i was afraid anymore force would snap a clip

You do have to give it a really hard tug, but as long as you pull straight forward it\'ll come out OK.  I\'m curious to see where Looksamc is going to get the feed from without removing the cowling...

I would say he is on about the cowling around the steering wheel where the headlight stalk switch wiring is so no need to remove the instrument cluster.

Doh, of course! I thought \'headlamp switch\' = switch on top right of cluster that raises and lowers them... Must have taken stupid pills... Obviously he meant the turn switch on the stalk... Ignore me...

Mate just use the light around the fag lighter its a 5min job, no fuses, no long lenths of cable needed, i just snipped the crimp from the fag lighter twisted the fag lighter wire with the gauge wire then re-crimped it and fitted it back on the fag connector.
Ground the other wire on the gauge and that it: job done.

yea its not too bigger job.. i went off the stereo adapter cable i bought rather than mangle the original wiring in there.. works fine.

Don\'t be such a drama queen - it\'s all fused through the main interior fuse box.
If he puts too much of a current draw on it it\'ll pop that fuse. If it keep on doing it he\'ll need to look elsewhere. Simple.

thanks for all your help folks, i now its a pi55 easy task and ive never had trouble putting them in my nissans, but this fd is tight.
i tried and tried to get to the fag lighter wires yesterday untill i was pi55ed off to the max, and the only way i could seem to get to them was from where i pulled the cig lighter out, stupidly annoying.:2Mad

and SiH, thats exactly what i was thinking to:2Rolleyes
