Title: 2 piece apex seals in pieces
Post by: rx7ali on May 10, 2011, 01:28:09 PM
Just received a new rebuild Kit from Atkins and have got the atkins 2 piece 2mm apex seals.

Wasn\'t expecting them to actually be in 2 pieces lol

Superglue them together slightly with the smaller assist piece sticking up about 0.25mm. You must do this on an completlely flat surface to keep the seal aligned correctly.

"apex seal assist rubber" is the mazda speak

i use super glue along the join edge of the wedge piece
and push them home with a jewelers screwdriver as the last move once the rotor is all assembled within the housing

( ie ,, the wedge pieces are the last pieces i fit before the next plate goes on )

The smaller piece sticks out which way by 0.25mm? On this terrible text drawing of an apex seal, is the 0.25mm gap top middle bottom side?

It sticks up above the rubbing surface that goes onto the rotor housings.
This means that when engine is put together it then breaks itself away from main seal.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I have a question!  Do the two piece seals install in any orientation? Or does the small piece have to be closer tot he front housing?  I ask because I have seen it installed both ways, and I want to be sure.
Thanks!!!
