A friend got the above today.......
No, not speeding, not on the phone, but eating a sandwich!!
By all accounts no reference was made to bad driving etc, can she challenge it?
I doubt it.
I imagine it\'s driving without due care and attention.
So what do you do when you change gear, wind your window down etc? Or disabled people?
I get the phone thing, i get speeding, but this is just laughable!
Smokers should be next!
Pathetic, I\'ll be honest this is one of the main reasons I jumped at the chance to leave england! Society just wants to fine for pathetic and petty things and the money in my opinion simply lines some ones pocket. I have sympathy for you.
And although i understand the phones one would any of you (honestly) struggle to drive safely whilst on the phone? I think as with a lot of thing in society a select few ruin it for others.
You could always try contesting it, i think you should try and contest it. It\'s likely with it being so petty the court will throw it out and not even look at it? But if I\'m honest I don\'t know enough about the procedures to give knowledgeable advice.
QuoteSo what do you do when you change gear, wind your window
I think you may have to change gear during the time it takes to eat a sandwich which may leave you a bit short of hands.
I\'m not defending to action taken by the police just looking for what they might say.
I\'ve eaten whilst driving, sandwich, crisps, chocolate etc - who hasn\'t.
I\'m sure you\'re aware of the \'pepipoo\' web site, ask the question there I\'d be interested in their thoughts.
If she took the ticket its too late, deal is done.
Ive seen a white van man eating a full on salad on the steering wheel before - amazed how he was able to steer the van, and secondly amazed it was a salad!
I knitted a pair of socks on the way to work once. But i was on a train and i was my nan.

Not necessarily true, i got given 3 points for "speeding" in a carpark which i then researched and found was actually a private carpark. I went straight down the cop shop smacked the paperwork on the table and got an apology aswell as the 3 points and £60 fine removed from my licence.
if you are doing an action whilst at the wheel of a car which does not involve an action to do with the car instruments or car controls you can been done, even before the use of mobile phones, nothing new here.
Google the case of that girl, who went all the way long to the High Court and she still lost her case. She was done for eating an apple whilst she was driving, so, I should imagine, the only way to challenge this thing is to go to the ECHR Court under Art 6 (Right to Fair Trial). As a Tesco employee, I think its against the natural justice to stretch the law to an extreme limits. Because, criminal law is developed in the interest of society and if the society is dragged into disobeying the law, then there must defective issues in the system, which, off course, needs to be addressed..

SOrry, I should have been clearer in what I wrote - when I say "took", I mean has paid the fine and accepted the points. She can just respond if not and leave them to take her to court.
I think there\'s an argument for the driving test being expanded to include real world driving activities that everyone will realistically be indulging in anyway, legal or not. Forget all this rubbish about motorways and how to check tyre pressures and all that, the skills we really need are how to text on the move; play Angry Birds (or whatever the hell the latest stupid phone game is), eat a three course meal including horses doofers without spilling any on your delivery sheet clipboard; roll a fag whilst steering with your elbows (mine and anyone who\'s ever driven a van\'s favourite); and of course be the recipient of a blowjob from a Ukrainian pro without crashing into anything.
Some of this isn\'t true.
I think if your friend contests it, it may well be thrown out because the courts are just as bankrupt as the rest of the country and don\'t really have enough time or energy to fduk about with nonsense like this. Was your friend done at the time by a real live copper or was it through the post from some no-life busybody community grasser scum? If the latter, their testimony against hers, even better
It was a real live copper surprisingly! I shall probe further as it was a traffic cop i would be surprised if she could go further.
I got done a while ago for being on the phone, it was 9 am, Sunday morning and not a sole on the road. With that statement i am not defending my actions, i know its illegal and when i was pulled i didnt cause a fuss, accepted i had been caught out etc The copper was actually ok, once the initially your a naughty boy ice had been broken. They had followed me about a mile where i had negotiated 2 roundabouts and pulled into a car car park where i had stopped, i had indicated, not sped, slowed down, stayed on my side of the road etc etc I asked the copper, sorry was i driving badly (auto box too), to which he replied, no, we would have had no clue but we were pulling up to one of the roundabouts as you went through (un marked car) and saw you had a phone to your ear, your driving was fine, but then got the, "the laws the law" and all that! No complaints, i broke the law, but would be nice to see some coppers with some common sense applied to situations, as my friends incident above!
Hmmm... coppers... common sense . I think I can spot the deliberate mistake in your reasoning there

definitely agree here, the amount of people i get lifts with who can\'t change gear with their left and right hands (depending on which one is holding your phone/fag/McDonald\'s milkshake) is unbelievable!
Will have to watch it next time i change the CD !!!
