Title: Problems after fitting another BOV
Post by: m1tch on May 08, 2011, 07:58:36 PM
...well not really issues for me :rollin

Just refitted a new BOV - its a MASSIVE twin horn BOV in the stock location taken off a jap import, replacing my blitz dual drive, I am guessing that I had a vac/boost leak somewhere, the car now creates MASSIVE backfires and cracks/bangs/pops lots now when warm.

Its due to the Walbro fuel pump causing the fuel pressure to increase meaning more fuel is injected. Its worse when it warm as the injector duty is increased when warming up, seems less crazy when its warm as the fueling is about right lol.

When I blipped the throttle and went on boost a bit whilst on the drive it sounded like anti-lag :Thumbs-up issue being for other people as it let of a massive backfire when off boost at 20mph along the high street lol I was drive driving it and it decided that it was bored lol :2Rolleyes

Really need to get the fueling sorted lol anyhow, not really an issue for me, just an issue for everyone else :2Rolleyes

Here is the BOV I took off (will get a photo of the newer one - needed a larger one to cope with the T88 air flow lol)

I solved the backfiring problem after moving to the Bailey 26 dumpvalve. tbh i miss the backfiring lol.
Does it still idle fine?

Read about a few people having problems with BOV\'s and rotaries, I\'m not sure about getting one for this reason? Plus I\'ll be running a stock turbo for now anyway. Perhaps your car just needs a remap with the BOV installed. What ecu are you running?

Both Grinder and I have used the Blitz BOVs with no real issues, but the additional richness caused by the vented charge does light up the night sky on the overrun :god

Its not an issue for me, just children/pets/people with pacemakers :D

Its a chipped Knightsport ECU, which has a more agressive map, wouldn\'t happen on the Blitz dual drive as the smaller port would open first on low boost around town.

Car idles better now, and doesn\'t hunt, which it used to every now and then, so I am guessing it did had a minor boost leak.

@1990_fc3s_t2 - yes the shiny shiny OEM replacement BOV is for sale, here is what it sounds like:

Its one of my slower runs @ stock boost lol:

When I get home I will post up a photo of it and you will see why it gets rid of ALL THE AIR IN THE INTAKE lol :P

Note - car hasn\'t stalled, it gets to about 500rpm and then smoothly recovers, the issue I have was when I was driving off boost along the high street at 20mph, it let off a massive backfire lol I am guessing its not fuel cutting maybe?

Also - the AFR in idle is now around 18:1 due to the air pump, before I fitted the BOV it was about 23:1 ish, so there was obviously air getting in somewhere it shouldn\'t lol I think it was a smaller top hose on the IC, it looked like it had perhaps rubbed on the bonnet causing some minor cracks, I cut that bit off and its allll goood lol
