Hi,
Is it common for the RX8 bootlid to rust so badly, specifically by the brake light?? It seems to only be affecting that area on my car, and also seems like a difficult repair.
Anyone had any similar issues, and if so how much to put this right.
Cheers.
Yep, it\'s quite common, if you\'ve got standard bodywork and have had the annual inspections then you can try getting it repaired under the anti-perforation warranty. I got a new bootlid from them.
Make sure when you take it to the dealer you get a log number for the complaint.
In the past Mazda uk have only been upholding the claims if all the paint checks and services have been done and also in some cases only if the rust is coming form the inside and has not cracked the exterior paint work.
Good Luck.
what everyone else said really, mine isnt covered as I\'ve had it painted in the past, which is a total gyp
i had it too, very disappointing. mazda were like yeah we\'ll fix it...but have you got the yearly bdy check certificate? mmmmm no didn\'t know about it, previous owner didn\'t seem to know about it or have it stamped...mazda oh sorry then.
i just took the brake light out, got some winning blue touch up paint, thinned down and using my model craft sprayer, cleaned all the rust off, inside around the hole for the light and primed and repainted.
has lasted a good time, but noticed it coming through again lately. they built the rx8 out of recycled steel and it shows, between the bootlid and the sills where the rear doors rub through the paint but they covered that as a recall.
ah well, carbon fibre bootlids the way to go lol.
