Title: FD gear box rebuild kits???
Post by: Grant Monkhouse on May 02, 2011, 03:07:15 PM
as i have a spare gear box in the shed from my bros FD i was wondering if/how much a rebuild kit is, if they do them that is??

or even if anyone knows where i could get the gear box re-cond?

i know it will be easier to get another box,  possibly a lot cheaper but i have never rebuilt a gear box and would like to know how to rebuild one.

you wont get a basic rebuild kit as when they are rebuilt they check wear on selectors and shafts and then the bearings so you never know what you are going to need. best try and find a place local to you that can do it. but dont be surprised if it sets you back £400 to get done.

well if you get a 2nd hand box you take the risk that its ok or how long it will last. however sometimes recon boxes come up on the forums. i sold one for £250 that had been done in turn i bought it through the forums as a spare for the same money  :) as they say  the choice is yours  :)
