Title: advice please
Post by: alex Gardner on April 29, 2011, 09:48:06 AM
hi all,
have noticed that my oil pressure gauge is a bit erratic, yesterday dropped to 0 on tick over then jumped up to 40, when on boost shows high pressure but jumps around have checked oil level all ok,its a new engine 1200 miles so just ran in, so fatly gauge then ?
for peace of mind will fit aftermarket oil and boost gauge can any one recommend a good set up dash or steering column plus other gauges you think its good to keep an eye on.
 thanks all

Standard oil pressure gauge is next to useless.  Well worth while investing in some aftermarket gauges.  Along with Oil Pressure, I would look at boost and a water temperature.

Yup, as MArtin says - stock instrumentation is pretty useless. Even when it\'s working, most of it has three states - \'Engine Off\', \'Engine working in some way or another\', and \'f*cked, it\'s too late\'.

DECENT aftermarket gauges FTW. Cheapest I\'d consider using are Autometer or Mocal. Steer well clear of the generic eBay spec \'Awesome Stepper motor 5 bazillion colour sings the theme tune to Tron\' ones.

For the ultimate, Defi/Autometer Nexus/Apexi EL\'s are awesome.
