check underneath for big holes :( :(

apart from that

make sure it starts from cold and hot
check the oil
check the water
check all the idiot lights
make sure it pulls all the way to the buzzer in 1,2,3 ( nice open road does the trick )
make sure it steers in a straight line :( :(
check the brakes
check all the lights
check the roof lining for water damage
check sunroof
check tyres
brake from about 40 without holding the wheel - should brake straightly
check the ABS - a new unit costs 1700 from mazda ( ekkk )

usual stuff when buying a car really

that should cover the basics :)

Stand on the brake pedal once up to 50mph - if the wheels lockup then they ain\'t \'anti-locking\' properly. easy peasy

best thing for ABS if you are unsure - test it on gravel at about 20 MPH or a wet road

i found mie braked really well at 50 and couldnt get the ABS to kick in - you have to be very brave to stand on the brakes that hard at speed

and the oil - check it has some - check the colour of it - is it new or old - make sure it has no milky bits in it ( water seals gone )

the rx7 should have the oil changed about every 2500 - 3000 miles , this is purely to keep it all running nice and the engine lasting longer - so make sure it has some form of history or some reciepts for oil

not sure what else to check really :)

rust is the killer ( as i have found out ) - so get on your hands and knees and have a really good bang around the sills ( mine had a 12month MOT and i have found loads of rust on the underneath - 5 nice sized holes )

just thruly check everything you can , make sure the steering is nice and light at LOW speeds and stiffen ups later on

check the lights go up and down - and the cruise control works ( such a nice toy ) check the air con

check the elec ariel ( mine just died on me )

failing this - take it to a rotary specailist and get them to look

so whos car are you going looking at ???

Thanx a lot for the helps, I am looking at 2 cars right now, one of them is from a dude called robin hayes, a red Turbo II and the other one is from ebay, a white one with black wheels on, anyone has any idea how good are those cars ?

the other question which probably should be asked is what sort of budget have you set, as that will dictate a lot in terms of condition, mileage etc!

I got mine quite cheap, had v good underbody, spots of rust on the roof (mainly on sunroof and top of windscreen), but had 115k on the clock, not a problem as the car can do the mileage, but, the bushes are a little tired need looking at and I did manage to lose a rotor tip so it\'s being rebuilt now - but there is an inherrent risk of that with any rotary - unless you buy one that has just been rebuilt (Sean has one on here in the for sale section)

Apart from that, ABS is bo77oxed! best answer there is remove it! The housings round the brake sensors are aluminium apparantly, and buckle easily resulting in the ABS kicking in without warning! I decided to just disconnect it!

cheers!

certainly possible, you should get one with a reasonable body for that, but no guarantees on engine I\'d say. £1200 won\'t buy u a minter though. £2.5 - £3k and you\'d be looking at a good car with low mileage and/or rebuilt engine.
