Title: How to identify Pro 1989 Turbo II
Post by: X-Koma on June 11, 2004, 08:23:27 PM
I am new to RX 7, I am wondering how can I identify the difference between the 185 bhp turbo II and 200 bhp turbo too in technical way, I know they are difference in rear spoiler and rear lights, but I need some kind of technical indentification as all these spoiler and lights can easily change.

Helpss will be very much appreciate. I am new and willing to learn.  If that is not too troblesome, could anyone give any advice on what kind of mods are normally done in a Gen 2 Turbo II ? what is the best turbo timer for it ?

Thanx a lot !!!:D

Hello mate,
Welcome. There is a thread in this forum which states the differences, but i will give a quick rundown on spotting some differences.
Engine bay:
-S5 radiator has the fillup in the right side as you look at it.
-S4 has it in the middle, and a nother cap on the coolant elbow left of the alternator.
- S5 has a round/oval type airflow meter.
-S4 is a flap type.
-S5 No twinscroll on the turbo. Larger wastegate, and better manifold.
-S4 Has twin scroll, crappy manifold and pretty small wastegate.
-S5 has a slightly different shaped upper inlet manifold.
-S5 has twin throttle positioning sensors.
-S4 has a single    "                 "               "
-S5 has an electronic oil metering pump(for the oil injection)
-S4 has a mechanical control, using a rod   "         "          "

Interior
-S5 Dash has the round dials
-S4 has Quarter cicle shape dials
-S5 Trim around the heater and radio controls is a soft rubber.
- S4 Hard plastic   "                        "                        "

Body
-S5 front bumper and wings differ slightly to the S4
-S5 Side mouldings are colour coded from the factory.
-S4 are not...plain black.

I hope that this has helped.

Ref tuning... How far do you want to go? Cash?  Whatever you decide, the fueling; fuel control; needs to be addressed, before you start playing with fuel cut defenders, exhausts and airfilters.

I know that the tuners are aware of them, and i believe can get some bits for them. To my knowledge, the TII was only available in the UK from 89 on.
