Some of my pics from the day. Had a great time - only slightly crispy due to the suncream put on at the start of the day.

Very big thank you to Clive and Lisa for organising.

steep, that banking, innit. Just think, a few years back Tarquin and Randolph were hurtling around it at 200 mph sat astride an aeroplane engine with a drum-braked bicycle wheel nailed to each corner. Now we\'re considered to incompetent to walk up it without spazzing our ankle over and suing for thousands. That, my friends, is progress

Nik, as always, excellent camera work :)

I managed to snap a few picutres today as I raced around...
... Saturday I cleaned the car, and it looked like this:

... by the time we got to Sunday, following a spot of torrential rain it was so dirty I wasn\'t even allowed in to join the rest of the cars... :o

Nice pics peeps.
Shame I didnt get up to the banking due to Brooklands H&S. Would you beleive the agro even started before I got to the gate. I should have learnt from last year.
But still a good day out to talk with likeminded people and our bizzare obsession with these cars. Unfortunatly due to what happened I wont be going back to Brooklands with this car and probably not as a general visitor again.

Their H&S did seem a bit heavy handed from last year.  By the end of their brief on the Test Hill part of me was convinced that my car, which is pretty modern and reasonably powerful would really struggle getting up.  In reality it was very simple.  However I guess it\'s the price you pay for a bunch of lefties making it easy for people to sue other people.

Great pics from everyone :)

Brooklands H&S is simple... all it takes is one stupid lawsuit to shut a museum like that, (or at least stop the car meets etc) so it\'s either face the briefig, or loose out.  It didn\'t really hurt all that much, right? :Giggle

You are obviously not quite aware of what happened. Upon arrival I unloaded the car from the the trailer before the entrance gate in the shade to put the road wheels on. At this point I was approach by the hi viz brigade who asked " what do you think you are doing" l looked around for some pikies tipping rubbish. I explained the situation and was told there was no room for me and I would have to park that thing elsewhere.
I then sat Blake on my lap and drove down to the paddock area.
When it was, what I thought time to go to the banking I moved my car to let others go.up first as i have been in the front before. At this point another from h&s decided to shout and rant saying don\'t move your car, where do you think you are going.
Then as I can fully understand only one person per seat I was not allowed to take Hannah to the embankment. But the attitude and rudeness of it all as I explained I was not going to let my 7 year old wander up there on her own. Thanks for the offer by the gent to take her but sorry I don\'t know who you are therefore I said no.
So the car was parked up in the car park. I had a wander round to come back and find all the ignition switches had been messed with.
So no kit didn\'t hurt that much.

They\'re utter arsehoIes, think I may have mentioned that before, shortly before being shouted down

The staff there are the one thing that would (and almost did) stop me from going. In a way, it\'s nice to see the only one that resents being treated like a slightly retarded child by them, but it\'s a shame that they feel they have a mandate to treat anyone like that. I won\'t embarass them by mentioning names, but I know of at least one other paid-up club member who had significant problems even getting in the venue, and arrived fuming over the idiot at the gate\'s rudeness.

Seems to get mentioned every year, but paying members\' opinions apparently count for little against "not giving the wrong impression about the event" :3Confused

That reminds me about the guy at the gate,he first can\'t find me on the List, even though I flashed my MRC Membership Card & I said am GreySilver Beast or might be under BlackSparkling Beast !!
He then found me on the List,as I was on the bottom of the 2nd page :) ,but just before I was about to drive down,he then said, this is a MAZDA isn\'t it ? I said yes of course,that\'s what the badges say :rollin I then drove done & didn\'t have the heart to say it\'s not a Rotary, but in fact a MPS instead :D

Geeeeezzzzzzz, why do we bother trying to put anything on (yes I have an opinion as well) !

A good day was had by all as far as I know or thought  but I feel that if we go back next year the mind set here needs to be different so we don’t keep getting  this each year ,

We really need a mindset that means we realise that it is an honour for MRC to be allowed to hold an event at such an historic venue not a right

I not only know that people around the world would love to have a place as historically special as Brooklands to go to, but I also know we are the only Japanese car club allowed to hold an event and that there with many other Marques either unable to be fitted in or banned which has taken place in the past where a couple of individuals feel they can totally disregard the rules to get their own way.

For instance the Mopar club will never ever be allowed back due to just one famous individual in the club that kicked of just because he arrived late and could not get inside where the clubhouse is !

I knew what happed with Brian as I was informed immediately and I\'m sorry but not only would Brooklands have been sued as irresponsible but it would have meant the end of the club had you pulled away had the throttle stick open and crashed with a child on his lap !

Please don\'t say this can\'t happen as this happened just 2 weeks ago in a NASCAR Sprint Cup race in spite of mandatory fail safes built into the throttle mechanism

Sadly as Nik must know from the railway, we live in a "sue you world" that sadly as an old git I have been seeing growing stronger and stronger over the years and have witnessed that  it’s the public who have made it this way not the bureaucrats, indeed even I have a mate who played on a supposed back problem and gleaned 7 grand for it after slipping over in Tescos where there was a sign saying "wet" and yet he and I know that not many years ago he would have put this down to his own carelessness, instead he played the system like so many will nowadays.

If you read this properly you may see why I feel that it’s not bureaucrats that create that create all these health and safety issues , its people like you and me with the American style ambulance chaser solicitors only too please to back us to get a “piece of the action”.

As head of the club I have to take this type of thing on board and as much as I hate to admit it “be responsible” and aware that the club itself can fall foul of predators out for gain which is why we have a one million pound public liability policy because anyone who organises a group of people for anything even resembling an event of any kind in effect sets themselves up as a target for this eventuality.

If any other club members have had problems please come forward so we can better make the decision as to whether to hold a Brooklands event in 2012 as Lisa and myself stage this event for YOU not us, so if lot\'s have had problems we need to know and will just drop it off the calendar and done with ,

As I say if we go back, we must go back with a different mindset knowing we have to play by the rules as it is a privilege not a right to hold an event at Brooklands

I never ever ever get involved in these discussions but this time I\'m gonna say my opinion even though I don\'t expect anyone to really be interested! :)

I personally think Brooklands is a great day out and I think everyone who shows up has a good time, gets to see lots of fantastic cars and meet up with people they chat to on the forum but don\'t see! I also believe everyone is grateful to Clive and Lisa for organising it all, as there is always a long list of thanks for doing so on these threads. :Thumbs-up

I think we all understand why the Brooklands marshals have to do the job they do but I think they are more than a little aggressive-I had a proper fight to get in myself! :Hammer  That being said though I still had a lovely day.

Think what I\'m trying to say is that people will have a grumble if they are not being treated nicely.....doesn\'t mean they don\'t enjoy the day or that we don\'t want the event to happen anymore-just means the staff narked us a bit and we\'re having a moan!!  I haven\'t seen any comment here that says anything about the day being anything but great in regards to the actual club.

My honest opinion......focus on all the comments that say great day thank u and have a chuckle about the grumpy staff-I did! Or, of course, just ignore my random ramblings here!! :D

HI
Quite agree with you Jojo - well summed up. It was a good day.
Personally, I was warmly greeted at the gate, checked off on the list, and guided down to the car park. I thought the staff were fine.

As a newbie here, I thought it worth mentioning that I have experience of forums in other corners of my life unrelated to cars. Those forums have the same problems where most people seldom post - most members are quite content to just read - which is OK. However, the MRC forum is really active with a load of posts everyday of the year. If there were only a few posts per month then the club could count itself in real trouble. As it is, there are a great many people who have the passion and commit the time to contribute to the forum and help its members. Many of the members also do valuable work to help Clive and Lisa.
All in all, I\'d say this is a very healthy club.

Looking forward to the event next year too.
Keep up the good work.

I think Madame le Jo has provided the most balanced version of it, really. The day, as always, is a qualified success. Qualified because everyone has a great time and sings praises despite any niggles that may arise. I think however, instead of reacting in an "oh my god, it\'s a disaster" sorta way maybe it\'s time to realise that if year on year the same complaints are aired maybe there\'s a genuine issue that needs to be adressed?

I guess it\'s just a sad inditement of modern culture that everything is adjusted downwards to allow for the lowest common denominator, rather than claim seekers being treated as the fools they are. As to the railway having public liability, yes, it does, for a good reason. Maybe it\'s because I\'m trusted to control a 100mph 300 tonne projectile without ending up on News At Ten for killing 800 people that I expect to be considered able to walk up a concrete bank without tripping over my own feet, injuring myself and suing.

As to the fact we should be honoured to be allowed to set foot on such hallowed turf, well, that doesn\'t really cut it for me, any more than the banning of the Mopar club for having the effrontery to turn up to an event they have presumably paid for and expect to be let in!? The cheek of them :rollin As far as I can see, Brooklands is a crumbling relic that has completely failed to preserve adequately the heritage they make such great noise about, and if they go bust then they should probably look at their own scandalous mismanagement.

Hold the event in a field full of cowpats for all I care, I\'d still turn up because I go to meet up with friends, see rotaries and support my club, not to prop up a greedy organisation that are content to cynically treat us as a cash cow and give very little back. I couldn\'t give a monkeys about their museum or any of the rest of it. I wouldn\'t like anyone to think this is a rant, or aimed at anyone in particular, but since the topic was raised again (not by me, I may add) and responded to, I kinda reserve the right to re-enter the discussion on it as long as it continues. Personal opinion, not aimed at anyone, don\'t get all bent out of shape :InLove

BTW, if they waived the banking fee, does that mean I can claim my tenner back from the other year? :rollin

Well, I was not there as I gave it a miss!! But reading from what Clive has written, I just wanted to make a small input,

"Clive, No Matter what steps you take and no matter what actions you adopt, Under the Unfair Terms Act 1977 (section 2) (Subject to the exception of those statutory instrument, which are not covered by the Act), you can not exclude liability for personal injury or death"  (my this statement is proven in your earlier post, "your friend claimed for supposed back problem, despite the fact that the sign of exclusion "wet floor" was displayed). So looking after the people and looking after cars etc etc etc, will never ever exonerate Brooklands from personal injuries claim or H&S Claims, Under H&S Act 1974, if the reasonable care and thoughts are shown by any organisation, They may be able to defend the claim of breach!! But defining reasonableness is very difficult (there is a legal definition for it, but I don\'t want to give a law lecture loll). The prevention of risk or damage will only benefit them (brookland) in two areas,

First One, the reasonable duty of care test will be passed (dont know to what extent, depends on the merits of the case) and

Secondly the individual may be held as contributory negligent

The effects of both are, that the damages awarded would be reduced, thou not substantially and it does not have any effects on Cost, As per Civil Procedural rules, Cost of any civil litigation is "Discretionary"

So as far the above is concerned, I can see their (Brookland\'s) point and also concern,

But, treating grown up people in a judgmental way as oppose to a non-judgemental way is beyond my comprehension! I think everyone is grown enough to understand the consequences of their actions and wont voluntarily (unless coerced) do something, which would undoubtedly bring otherwise name to the MRC..

Secondly, there is a good defence in law, for voluntarily assuming the risk i.e. see games like boxing, cage fighting etc etc..

The reason I am advocating for those who have not had a good time is because, I am sure they were looking forward to it and drove from far far away to attend and then they see themselves being treated like a risk is not really what they thought off.. I think the best practice would have been reasonable directions to the people, instead of "oii do this and dont do this"

I hope my post is not taken in a wrong way, neither it is designed to disrespect anyone nor otherwise, rather, I am trying to forward my thoughts on the feedback I have peruse from above!!

I have learnt all this in Tescos, as I work there as a GSA :)

One last thing to mention, Clive, in my opinion, your concern about H&S is perceived genuine by me, as you have everyone right to defend your and the clubs name, but at the same time, club member\'s first point of contact is you, so unfortunately, you have to listen to all...but off course everyone should forward their concerns in a constructive manner.. Just to round off.
Yes it was a good day as far as MRC was concerned
Yes I enjoyed talking to others about their cars and mine
Yes i enjoyed looking at the old relics and picking uo some ideas for the next creation.

All Brooklands need to do to improve things is go on a people management course to learn how to talk to people in a civil non hitler manner.

And it seems I am going back there as I forgot about the lancia day on the 30th. Yum yum stratos and 037:cheers

Very well said Syed, blimey we need people like you to be full club members to be able to have a proper say in the members section to assist direction,

Your right I have to listen and indeed I want to listen because information is everything and if lots of people are having lots of aggro I need to know so we can make the decision as to the future of this event,

Nik your comment about cow pats and open fields is right and I know you would attend, trouble is collectively our people don\'t want to do this, look at Bromley Pageant as a prime example, what did we have eight cars :Hammer.

Brian, I was told on the day what had happened and felt that if their were real issues you would have told me there and then, shame is I need first hand info on the day really to even think about addressing things.

I am going to the next Breakfast meet at Brooklands but before then hope to go armed with a better picture to discuss attitudes of not and the future of the event as people hopefully come forward with more info for me.

I had no problems tbh... apart from the entrance road being in shocking condition lol, Had a lot of fun, they told us not to go up the banking, so really, that should have been all they needed to do, as soon as we decide to ignore their talk and go up the banking, any ability to sue etc. should be out the window as we had been told but decided to ignore...

big boys (and girls) should be able to look after themselves and if they do something wrong, on their own heads be it, each person should take a personal risk assessment (as we do every day, like crossing roads, or driving full stop) to decide if it is within their abilities to do something of if they will hurt themselves, just a shame that its all gone too far with the claim culture.

Anyway, I had great fun, I am looking forward to Rotorstock!!!

Nothing normal about Jojo\'s RX-4! I was more alarmed to see a pink MX-5

I really enjoyed the day and given the fact it was Easter Sunday it was a great turnout.

Wherever you go you get the odd jobsworth or over zealous official but it shouldnt spoil the whole day, especially as it is has always been more about the social side for me. Getting to see people you may only see once a year or even every other year - course there are those people you cant avoid seeing at every event going:rollin   -  you know who you are!

It was good to see so many people turning up for an event as this does seem to be a problem with the MRC.

Thanks to everyone for pictures of the RX as I forgot the camera and do not hold much hope for the quality of the photos I took with the disposable camera.
(Andy, thanks mate those are great pictures).

Clive & Lisa, thank you for organising this event, as some of you are aware, due to very busy work schedules (not knowing which Country I\'ll be in from one day to another), Tina and I look forward to coming to these events to chill out, with some very pleasant people and talk cars, it was well worth the 398 miles (round trip). I think the Shell share price must increase everytime there\'s a rotary event. lol

To all who attended, thanks, we enjoyed looking at all the cars.

Now looking forward to Japfest.

Chris & Tina

What a great day!

Thanks, as always, to Clive and Lisa for organising the day and the weather. I didn\'t run into any of the Brooklands staff so my day was perfect.

If anyone wants any of my photos, please PM me and I\'ll send you the hi-res version.

I think I saw Casey trying to get a similar shot.

We took some photos of my car in an oil seed rape field yesterday so we\'ll see how those come out - more pics through car windows! :D
