Title: H452 ARR Finally threw in the towel today....
Post by: Adam fc on April 23, 2011, 05:24:50 PM
Tis a sad day today......my fc finally threw in the towel..... :(

She was blowing coolant from the expansion tank so i think its pretty  much safe to say its got a buggered cooling seal ?!?

I had kinda suspected it was on its way out as its been blowing small amounts of coolant out of the expansion tank for a while now.

She didnt appear to be running hot at the time of the incident so hoping the damage shoudnt be too severe when shes taken apart for the rebuild.

Thought id share my pain as my mates were cracking jokes as she was emptying her coolant all over the road!  Jokes such as \'\'Tea\'s ready! ive got some PG Tips in my car\'\'

Either way ill have her rebuilt with a half bridge port and a remap so should be on the road within a few months!

Sorry to hear that, tis always a shame when your engine goes - but a waterseal failure is better to have than a tip go.

If it\'s going to be any time before you get the engine apart, I\'d open the coolant drain on the engine (centre iron, it\'s the odd long bolt of the 4 near the engine mount on the passenger side) and make sure it\'s drained of coolant completely - save any possibility of coolant getting in and sitting in the chambers.

Yeah its going to be sat for a while till rebuoild time so ill do that cheers.

As you stated i was glad it wasnt a tip failure as ill hopefully be able to re-use the housings again.

Allthough im looking forward to having it half bridge ported etc

If this is the first rebuild I\'d say you\'ve done a Very good job of keeping her so healthy. Bad news on the seal, but good new on the nee upgrades I guess! Think of it as an excuse to uprate.

Yeah ill have to put up with the stock tub for a little while once its bridge ported. Im guessing the stock tub will struggle to make boost with a bridge port then?

Stock turbo will probably be on boost when the BP engine is idling :Laugh

Haha well that sounds like an excuse to uprate the tub then?? :)

The most surprising thing about this whole thing was that i kinda knew it would do the inevitible rotary thing one day but it hasnt actually dampened my spirits one bit!

Duno about you guys but do you ever notie the noise they make at around 7000rpm? Its like a low humming sound?? sounds goood though and i cant wait to have it again!!

That\'s a damn good idea... Must find storage space for a spare bridge ported EGi engine...

You\'re gonna try and nick mine once it\'s been ported! :p

naaah, I\'ll just source one that will need a rebuild soon, get it on an engine stand, sort it out and port it, get it looking pretty, fit it when my current one pops, do the same to the newly popped one and just swap engines every time...

Anyone know what supporting mods you ideally have too run a half bridge port engine?

Allso fired her up today started first turn of the key a little white smoke which eventually went! Resilliant little buggers arn\'t they!

When you rebuild her pop some K seal in her just for added protection.
