Hey people,
Just bought I\'d share my experience of trying to get insured on a 1992 RX7
Admiral-£5.5k
ClassicCar quote -£19k
Pretty much a standard rx7
I\'m 20 years old, got 3 years NCB, live in London and I have Pass Plus doubt that has any effect what so ever
Any other places I could look?
Thanks for the help upfront :)
mate, when i was 20, i was driving around in 1.4s.
im 27 now and pay £250 a year fully comp on my rex :)
My insurance is coming to an end and now I browsing around for insurance quotes..If anyone found decent insurance company, do let me know..I have 7 years no claim discount..
Pls note Adrian Flux does not pass/fulfill the definition of decent company lolll :)
Syed
:( lucky
I\'m driving a Ford Focus 1.6 atm quite boring
I need something which is fun and I can add on to like a Turbo charged car
If u know where I\'m coming from
some crazy figures there mate, i bet the people on the other end must be giggling there days away !!!!! 19K ???????? :Hammer
19k is insane but mummy and daddy would pay this for a spoilt brat.
Unfortunately at 20 living in London its going to be high, i live on a military camp with armed guards on the gate and they dont seem to make a difference. Your best bet is to just phone everyone and see all the prices they offer then pick the best one.
Have you tried Sky insurance? Not sure if you have to be over 25 though but give them a call - Olly has sorted a few people (Inc\' me) recently with some good quotes.
@gsb876 tell me about it :( I was shocked to see 19k
@RXspeedy yea that\'s true, some people get given it on a plate others have to work hard to get something on that plate & yea that\'s another thing I\'ll have to do any specific companies u got in mind?
@goldk28611 nope haven\'t tried em out but I will do :)
19k is basically a \'bugger off\' quote unfortunately :(
I guess it\'s going to be high consdiering your age and location dude - have you got any experience driving high powered RWD cars? This often helps.
TBH I\'d advise you to get an MX5, build up more NCB and experience ove ra few years, then if you still want an FD, go from there.
Simaron - that\'s absurdly cheap - is that for a standard car? I\'m 29 and in a very low risk area, and am paying just over £350 for 3k miles/year.
As above at 20yrs old your gonna really struggle to get insurance on a RX7. When I was 20 (11 years ago now) I was driving a 1.6 cavalier or a AX 1.4 GT. Both of them were around £500 back then. I wouldn\'t even have considered a RX back then it\'s just not worth it.
My advice would be to get a FB or an FC Egi for a year or 2 just to get your no claims up whilst still having some RWD fun.
Insurance sucks but you\'ve got to make the best of it.
I\'m 23 and insurance on my FC3S is a grand, and I\'ve got 5 years no claims. I can get that down to about the £720 mark adding a housemate with more experience as a named driver, but they\'re getting really hot on that lately making sure your named driver actually lives with you. :/
Mines £430 all mods declared fully comp 5k milage limit and Im 31 near enough. Thats on a TII.
You\'re having FDUKin laugh bud trying to insure and FD in this day an age, at your age... !!:O ...... it\'s a group 19 / 20 car!!!!! relatively cheap car to buy, not the case to run / service / modify! Think unless you\'re FDUKin loaded, you\'ll waiting a gd few years yet...
ATB Phil
I know im gonna get slated for this but i don`t care. If you want cheap insurance just lie. Even if you have a modded rex with £20k+ spent on it you wouldn`t get half the amount if you crashed it.
Be like me and lie. :3gears-rh:3gears-rh:3gears-rh:3gears-rh:3gears-rh
bad idea posting that mate! So you\'re one of the FDUKers that makes our insurance premiums even higher than they need / should be, bcoz of not playing straight?! ;(
Each to their own.....
.... and you\'re 31 aren\'t you? So not really in a position to compare!
and if you do lie prepare to meet the whirlwind when it does get nicked or you get your legs smashed up, be prepared for the insurance company not to pay out and you getting nicked by the police.
To lie to get an insurance policy is the same as not driving without insurance , both are offences.
I work for an insurance compnay (albeit for their IT dept), and my company spend a lot of money on anti fraud software and techniques, trust me we catch out a lot of so called liars come claim time. And Police do get called.
Dont risk it be legal
If the details you give to an insurer are incorrect and are found to be so then you\'re uninsured. That\'s illegal and as it\'s not some victimless crime like, for example, running a decat pipe, it cannot be condoned.

I\'m sorry but putting that on a forum for car enthuasists is asking for trouble. I\'m very honest with my insurance and it\'s not cheap, I could easily lie and get a cheaper quote but as everyone else has said you\'re asking for trouble come claim time. Kindly do one :Hammer

thats the most stupid thing I\'ve heard all day. As if a 20yr old isn\'t gonna get pulled by the fuzz for driving an FD. Then he\'d get busted then his insurance would go up even further. Don\'t be an ass. Insurance ain\'t fair but you\'ve got to have it and have it right.

Sadly that is not the thing to do fella, have it insured properly or you will lose big if something happens.
Group 20 insurance aint cheap, and if you are young then its a nightmare but be sensible
i have a sneaky suspicion that that post was a wee bit tongue-in-cheek rather than actually true ;)
go for Ollie at sky, he\'s done well for me
19k?!?! are they serious, jeez..i\'m 23 with 3 years ncb with Adrian Flux and paying £1100 on my FD3S, cheapest i could find and haven\'t had any problems..
Tell the insurance your a 55yr old gynecologist on £100k, 15yrs ncb, and lives in Cheshire..... :3gears-lh:3gears-lh:3gears-lh:3gears-lh:3gears-lh
Try Sky Insurance, Noel Dazely, and Need2Insure
They all gave sensible (well £1100) when others were over £2000
I was 24, 5NCB at time...incidently I\'d stick with a standard car for now
Maybe get a UK car? Does make quite a difference...my friend is only paying £600ish at 22-23 I think
Thanks for the advise guys very much appreciated, couldn\'t come on much due to revision :(
my friends got a BMW 330Ci and he got insured for £1200 & He\'s younger than me :S
Went on comparethemarket and wanted to see how much it would be for my dad to insure and it came up with £1400 minimum :| 55yo, 15 years NCB i was shocked :|

I cant believe you even tried using a generic search engine for your insurance, you need to understand these cars are difficult to insure. Im not saying its impossible as I insured mine at 19. Im now 23 and paying £380 fully comp. You just need to take the advice of others on here, call around the specialist insurers and get a quote, even if it is crazy high then call another, get them to beat it and then back to the original keep doing this with multiple insurers till you find that its not going any lower, then try adding in some variables, e.g limited mileage + other people on the insurance plan and so on. play them at the insurance game, its all about margins, thats how they make the money.
grab a max power or banzai magazine and look in the back for potential insurers to call.
HTH
The best advice so far is get an fc egi or t2, Im with peter best on a classic policy with limited mileage, declared exhaust and its £101 fully comp, called last week to add the gf to my policy and it only cost £15...bargain even if i am spending £100 per week on fuel! :Laugh
Plus if you can afford an fd you could get a top notch fc for less money if you can find one.
Good luck whatever you decide :Thumbs-up
buy a cheapo diesel, get your towing license and tow it to tracks.
there\'s no way i\'d be trying to insure - let alone run - an FD at 20!
If you got 2 car admirl is your best bet im 22, 21 when i insured my fd no performance mods and a astra vxr daily drive i pay less than 2k.
im with sureterm direct and £153 per year fully comp, thats in an fc turbo II
I believe that today insurance companies are more worried about who you might injure with the vehicle and their costs, including anyone you injure who is in the car with you when you have a big one.
I think the cost of the car is peanuts in comparison. This is why the premium -v- car price comparison does not work.
I have heard it said that if manufacturers made a car that you could not take your mates to the pub in, premiums would go down.
Maybe there is someone out there in the insurance business who could comment on this.

Wow, where in London? I lived in Hither Green for the last 6 years until a few months ago. My heavily modded FD was £700 with A-Plan. Dropped by £100 moving back ooop north.
thats mad when i was 20 i had a ex rally celica st185 on 300 bhp limited (like said ex rally car) and was only paying about £1000 fully com om only 26 now. and my insurance for 3 cars fully comp with 1 crash on insurance 1 years now clames on the rx and 0 on the other 2 and im only paying £1200 now.

For some marques of vehicles, insurance has more than doubled over the last 3 years, so that doesn\'t surprise me!!
I\'m 22, just dealt with the second round of insurance for my FD. Cheapest I could get was just over 2.5k with admiral. I checked everyone (trust me) and if you\'re under 25 like me, as you are, then no one else will touch it. Specialist insurers are definitely the way to go but we can\'t access them til 25 or at least getting close to that age.
Gonna need to suck it up if you want an FD mate. This is a lot more than I paid last year..but I\'ve made cut backs in other areas to fund this insurance nonsense. I do what I need to in terms of working to fund this car (I\'m a final year uni student) as it is literally my pride and joy. 100 hour weeks have been known in order to achieve both my educational and driving goals :D
FC\'s, other options will be cheaper. IMO not a comparison but if you are looking for something you can fiddle with and enjoy, as well as get into the rotary scene and can\'t quite afford the FD then definitely a place to start.
£950 quote with admiral, 23, 1yncb, 1claim, import and im currently paying £950 on my ZR 160!
yet a s2k is 2k and a skyline 2.5k ... utter daft.
O and always add your parents to the quote - if you lvie with them, knocked around £400 off my quote adding my mum and dad. 48/7 loads of driving experience etc.
And this isnt fronting or illegal as we live int eh same house and there is a chance they would use the car, don\'t forget they\'d need to be insured to reverse the car off the drive if you go onto a public road :)
950? Wow! Was that for a UK car or import?
I should ask DanDan for his advice on this !!
My FD is taxed as a 2.6 to avoid giving any insurance company wriggle room on a claim.

I\'ve just insured through REIS. £313 for my FC TII including 4 track days if I want them. Very happy with that.
Ade
Getting quotes of sub £500.
2000 miles, full track/competition cover, unlimited mods (no price increase, just declare). I\'m 23, currently on 4 years NCB midway through the policy on my DC5.
Competition Car Insurance. Seem to be hit and miss, but if you have a car that is around 20 years old they will insure it as a historic with limited mileage and the prices plummet. You need paid up membership to a club or a race license though.
Ill be in the same place soon, Im 26 with 6 years ncb and last year i paid over £700 for 2-3K. ts a bit naff seeing as its an almost stock fd. With uprated intercooler and induction kit. Hardly a single turbo upgrade is it lol!
For me and my GF on my Clio dci No NCB and 12k baring in mind my GF hasn\'t passed her test yet......£500 i actually think thats good but is naff compared to the insurance for just me and all my NCB\'s etc on the FD.
Talking about lads with silver spoons......my mate who is 23 has a brand new nissan GTR bought and paid for by mummy and daddy including insurance even with his 6 points for speeding and he has also jus got a house from them too and thats after he had a new Focus RS upgraded to 440BHP.......he\'s a mate but still a C&*T lol!
silver spoon parents p*ss me off no end.
Your telling me, I\'ve worked hard for what ive got and specially now everything i have is paid for.
However ive still got things like a house to pay for so am limited to what i can do.
However the silver spoon kids just get what they want when they want!
Got quoted £1400 on an FB the other day by Elephant... lol.
19, No NCB (parent\'s policy), 10k a year cover.
That\'s good considering i\'ve just renewed insurance for my Civic EG 1.3 carb for £9XX.
i bought mine just before i turned 21 in may. had paid £800 for the year (sept-sept) on my old car, cost me a further £213 for the remainder of the year. been looking around now for renewal and its around the £1000 mark. that will be 4yrs driving, 4yrs ncb no crashed no points
im 34 declared all mods on compare the market it was something ridiculous like £8500, went to adrian flux and was £650 fully comp with a £100 excess and i have 3 ncb
u might have to put up with it for a year or two or buy a cheap daily drive and have that as a second car i was in the same spot 3 years ago 2300 back then and still paying over 1k atm
and plz give the kid a break im not a silver spoon kid and i can still be here today enjoying a nice car that we are all enjoying if he loves the car like i still do after 3 years then im sure he work it out some how.
I\'m 23 have 4yr ncb an lookin at £430 this year it\'s all about your Rex being registered as a 1.3 :)

It makes absolutely no difference to insurance as the Rx7 is rated as a 2.6 on insurance company databases and still a group 20. The only way it would make a difference is if they are led to believe its engine is a 1.3 (i.e a transplant), in which case your insurance will be invalid.
Thought about an Rx8 for a few years?
