Hi,
So my car has not been ran in neearly 2 years has been started 4-6 times in total, i changed coolant and put new HKS replacement filters on it as well as changing the oil and filter (genuine Mazda) i have yet to change the spark plugs.
The car is fitted with a PFC which today i noticed was reading 100 degrees C!!!! is this normal for the car to get this warm whilst idling?? The HKS filters were very hot as was the piping going to the filters (39 degrees C) The fans i noticed kicked in @ 99 degress C and cut out again once temp got back to 92 degrees C, then back upto 100 degrees C then cut out at 92 degrees C. Lastly they cut in at 100 degrees C and the PFC read 101 degrees C before dropping back to 92 once the fans had kicked in.
I noticed the factory temp gauge just stayed at half way mark, all of the above happened whilst the car was idling in my drive way. Any advice woould be much appreciated :)

This is normal. The fans are turned on by a 97°C thermoswitch.
A common mod is to change this thermoswitch by a FC one, which is on at 89°C.

Yep but I\'m thinking that you don\'t need anything.
(BTW I believe I was wrong, 97°C is the FC one, the FD turns on at 108°C)
With a datalogit you can control the Power FC fan temps ;)

Vell, can you explain how the thermoswitch turns the fans on?
I\'ve looked at the cooling fans electrical wiring diagram (Page Z-40) a few times now and my understanding is:
The ECU reads the water temp from the water temp sendor and when it reaches a set temperature (92C stock ecu or thereabouts) or whatever is programmed in on an Apexi Power FC, the ecu allows fan relay no.2 and relay no.4 to be powered allowing power to flow to fan motors 1 & 2. The fan motors each have a permanent ground (black wire to front ground point no.2)
The thermoswitch \'switches\' on when it reaches a set temperature and allows relay no.3 to power on which just creates an extra ground point for each fan motor. The extra ground point allows more current to flow to each fan motor, which increases the speed of the fans (presumably to help get the temps down quicker if the temps are over 100C).
The only benefit I can see from fitting a thermoswitch that switches on at a lower temp is that the fans will increase in speed at a lower set temperature. If that is the benefit you are after, you could just permanently ground the blue/orange coloured wire from each fan motor and then you would have the higher speed when the ecu first turns the fans on.
as far as i know, i still have the stock thermoswitch and have never seen it rise above 89. Bear in mind, if the car is sitting still and idling, the engine is getting hot with no air flow through the radiator. That\'s why it\'s getting hotter. The thermoswitch may well switch on, but there\'s no moving air to assist the fans.
Get it out on the road and take a blast, you\'ll see the temps plummet ;)

Just need to get her reg\'d before she can see the road :) I know the temps will go down once out on the road i just thought it was running very hot at idle but from all the help and advice i read here she\'s okay! Happy days.
My lower radiator mounts are broken at the welds.....annoying!!!
