More details have surfaced regarding the high-performance hybrid Giugiaro plans to unveil at Geneva this week, and it turns out the "Frazer-Nash" name that was previously attached to the car is a misnomer. Though the existing Frazer-Nash company was involved in the design, the car will be called Namir, an Arabic word for "tiger."
If this exotic-looking two-seater\'s performance claims are valid, the moniker is more than appropriate. The Namir uses a mid-mounted gas-powered 814cc rotary engine coupled to four electric motors and lithium polymer power cells for supercar performance. The motors are mounted at the front and rear, on the suspension, and overall power is 270 kW. This translates to about 370 horses of instant-on performance from the electric motors. Giugiaro claims a top speed 300 km/h (187mph) and 0-100 km/h acceleration clocks in at 3.5 seconds, with 200 km/h coming up in 10.4. The plug-in hybrid drivetrain is reported to provide 39 km/liter fuel economy, and CO2 emissions under 60 grams per kilometer. With the 50-liter fuel tank, that gives the Namir a 2000-kilometer range. The car is already racking up performance credentials, with a 1\'51" lap time around the Autodromo Nazionale in Monza.
An orange and black paint scheme goes nicely with the car\'s name, and the engine cooling vents at the rear suggest tiger stripes. The Namir\'s racing intentions are clear from the body\'s supercar shape. Carbon-fiber and aluminum body panels are used over an aluminum spaceframe to keep the weight down. The dramatic, massive windshield contains solar panels that provide power to air-condition the cabin, which has its own share of show-car comforts. Touch-screen monitors draw on Frazer-Nash\'s experience to provide a flexible infotainment system. Giugiaro has contributed unique styling features like a hexagonal steering wheel and a leather-and-tweed interior that\'s an "homage to British tradition."
Though it doesn\'t represent the triumphant resurrection of a classic badge, the Namir does have a strong connection to Frazer-Nash. The sports car company has gone through a number of incarnations since automobile production ceased in the 1950s, and these days Frazer-Nash Research Limited is a designer of plug-in hybrid systems. Frazer-Nash collaborated with Italdesign Giugiaro on the Namir and developed the car\'s high-performance drivetrain.

I don\'t know what these hybrid aren\'t just a small diesel or petrol 2 stroke that power the batteries for the electric motors. I was seriously thinking about creating a project where the OEM drive train is the same, just have an electric motor where the engine would be directly input into the OEM gearbox and then a smaller engine or something to one side to top up the batteries in the boot where the fuel tank would be.
You\'d be better off with 4 independent traction motors - one on each wheel, controlled by some eletronics. That would give you full power from the off, with rocket like acceleration :) The engine can then run in it\'s sweet zone to provide charging for the battery pack
The down side is no \'noise\' when the engine isn\'t running - that lovely rotorary burble or brap brap or even trog trog if you want that insane slide throttled PP 20b FC :), I know some folks think porting is ghay - but I suspect they\'d have a performance jap bike over a big heavy Harley too.

You\'ll find my response follows on from Mitch\'s where he suggests using a motor coupled to the gearbox / drivetrain. Sometimes it\'s good to read the thread in context and not assume I was responding to your thread... ;)

You say that like it\'s a bad thing :confused: Never heard an open-piped 636R on full honk at 15000 rpm, obviously :rolleyes: I can come round and educate you as to why this is a far superior noise to the Potato-potato of an American tractor, sorry Harley, if it\'ll help :Giggle. Rather like Scoobies, what is taken as a muscular powerful sound is actually simply a side effect of getting exhaust dynamics hopelessly wrong, and in the case of Harleys about the most intrinsically unbalanced V-spacing possible on the engine itself. Being American, of course, they can always just drop more and more cubes into it until it overcomes the howlingly shlt original engine design and makes some facsimilie of power. This shouldn\'t be confused with a powerplant acceptable on any level in the 21st Century. Other than it sounds nice, of course :rollin

I like agricultural on a big-block Hemi, because it works really very well. I can\'t accept agricultural on a Harley because it doesn\'t work on any accepted measure of performance. If their barn-door "engineering" was capable of producing more power from a 1340cc engine than a 600cc Japanese one, I could just about take it, but they\'re not characterful and inspiring, they\'re just shlt under any definition.
It would, however, be dull if we all liked the same stuff, so vive la difference :Thumbs-up

Mr Greek, where is your input on the Moto Gp thread....or has the further advancements in electronic trickery caused you to fly the coup.
On the subject of Harleys (i know off topic), i love the concept of a Harley, but under certain criteria, hot hot weather, roads as straight and smooth as an arrow and no helmet and top speeds of 55mph i.e route 66!

so it\'s a 2 rotor using a teeny tiny smart car turbo?
also can\'t work out if those plates are purpose built or borrowed from something else. don\'t look like Mazda plates but there are a lot of plugged/unused holes? maybe this is a picture without all the oil lines and whatever hooked up.
