Title: Not too sure what\'s wrong
Post by: gibby250983 on April 06, 2011, 11:49:01 AM
Hay fokes I\'m needing help with something!
When I start my RX in the morning it seems that it\'s flooded but if I leave it for 10 mins it clear it\'s self up! It\'s strange coz it just started doing it! Its happened 3 times now but only in the morning! I can tell that it\'s petrol in the engine coz it\'s back firing and it sounds like it is flooded!

Can anyone help with this or is this one of the joys of owning a Rex!?

EGI ?

It could be leaky injectors - that\'s a known issue on the FC EGI\'s, but all RX\'s run rich on startup, to keep the engine running whilst everything warms up :)

But surly not that rich! It\'s the first time for this to happen! It\'s a fd3s...... Just strange could it have anything to do with water coolant or oil!?

Some are that rich that you\'re eyes would smart being behind one warming up ;)

what do u mean by "seems that it\'s flooded" ?? Does it run on one rotor for a while?

if your lose some coolant and it struggle to start then it could be water seals? but that is very worst case scenario, has the coolant buzzer gone off at all since its started doing it?

Sounds like you need a set of plugs.

The coolant light/buzzer hasn\'t been on since this has started! Defo ain\'t running on one rotor! I was thinking towards plugs but really not too sure with this? Gonna top up the coolant and see what happens! A few days ago tho before all this happened, there was coolant coming out from somewhere but then sealed it self and stopped! That too was on start up!
Hasn\'t leaked since but now tuis problem! It\'s confusing me big time!

I don\'t mean to be harsh dude but I think you need to get the car to someone who knows their rotaries.

As above, what are the symptoms that you saying \'sounds like it\'s flooded\' are based on?
Water leaks don\'t magically seal themselves - if something was leaking, you need to find the source, there\'s a real risk of dumping coolant and engine death.

Did you fill up with coolant before the leak? If you fill up too much, she\'ll p!ss out the excess from the overflow pipe until the levels equalise. IIRC, the wet patch should be somewhere near the front passenger side - someone confirm?

If it\'s flooded, it won\'t start. So \'leaving it for 10mins\' shouldn\'t help - unless you\'ve removed a plug to let the fuel evaporate.

Just strange tho how one day it was fine then the next it\'s not.....but once started up and left for 10 mins it fine! Would the lamda sensor have anything to do with it! For example it too much air was being sucked into the engine! Which inturn would add more fuel!

When I start it up it\'s back firing! Like excess fuel in engine!

Do you still have the standard ECU? If you have a PFC then it won\'t be the lambda sensor - IIRC it runs open loop with an Apexi, i.e. it doesn\'t adjust fuelling to compensate.

What\'s the idle speed like? Is it steady at around 1k as normal, or is it hunting? Could be a leaky hose or intake piping thats popped off somewhere that\'s causing you to run rich. Can you hear any leaks under the bonnet?
