I\'ve noticed a trend with many RX8 adverts i\'ve seen lately......
They\'ve been up for a long time! Plus, lots of owners in a very short time.... a 54 plate with 10 owners for example.
Is it the current climate of high fuel prices that is causing RX8\'s to be difficult to sell? I\'ve noticed that even the 231 models can be had for around £3000, thats got to be a bargain if its a good example.
They are going cheap-I know of one in the nice blue colour good spec went for £1000 on a 54 plate.
Road tax is high - because they are high on co2 emissions and that year onwards they fall into the new system. Also, some of the less well maintained ones will be coming up to \'rebuild o\'clock\'
The depreciation on RX8\'s is shocking. I know its not great on any car from new but they seem to be going for peanuts ?
its a shame, they\'re lovely cars! But they\'re a rediculous amount of money to tax and people tend to be a bit iffy about the engines.
I remember seeing one for around 4k with 18k on the clock. which is a bargain.
My dad worked out that doing 100k in his rx8 would be more expensive than going out and buying an electric car (volt) and then driving it 100k. This is just in terms of petrol/energy.
They\'re lovely cars, but serious money to run in the current climate, and i can only assume it\'ll get worse!
I just wonder if there gets to a point where people buy them, keep them for 5 minutes as a novelty and get rid.
from the few i\'ve seen with tonnes of owners, this seems to be the way its going.
I can only imagine that the P/x value is horrific on them too?
There are a lot of RX8s in the hands of people who don\'t understand/care for them well enough. The RX8OC is littered with threads where people have bought an RX8 that ran well from cold and then found it\'s a pig to start from hot and requires a rebuild. Like an RX7 I\'d be wary of any older RX8 that isn\'t sold with the results of a recent hot compression test.
Also people don\'t really get how poor they are on fuel compared to an Audi TT or something.
For anyone who really appreciates RX-8\'s, and particularly how they handle on twisty roads, it doesn\'t matter! Cheap cars for sale just means people who love these cars can get a real bargain (if they are careful!!).
Bought mine new on a 54 plate at full price :2eek (no discounts anywhere in those days). Now 6.5 years old, it\'s been fantastic fun, with loads of trackdays, autosolos, and other "fun" (north Weald and Finmere) days during its life with me. Depreciation is not a problem (for me), as I always planned to keep it until the rust finally eats it away,.......:(
In the meantime, the rotary bug has struck home and there is a 1983 RX-7 (to share with some fellow rotorheads) sitting next to the RX-8 in my garage...........what next I wonder.......(and so does the wife :Giggle)
Luckily, I have access to a 45mpg Honda Jazz for long boring, or short nasty, journies.

I agree - I wouldn\'t want one that had changed hands a few times because you just don\'t know how it\'s been treated. If one was starting to lose power would you really pick that up on a test drive if you\'ve never driven an RX-8 before?
The high tax was after 2005 as my old 05 plate was much cheaper, I guess it did well to go for £5,500 on ebay as stolen recovered.
The rx8 is a lovely car and well presented but i think the mpg is unjustified for the performance you get, i think mine was about £65 to fill up and it only managed about 185miles to that driving normally.
Even the 330 i have now was £64 to fill up and gave 310 miles so the difference is shocking for a car that is not that quick.
However if you can get one for £4000 with low miles and decent age then its still a bargain :Thumbs-up
