In todays Auto Express they have run an exclusive talking to Mazda\'s chief designer, Peter Birtwhistle and reveled that a successor to the Rotary engined RX-8 is in the pipeline :D
He said that the RX8 platform "cost a lot to develop and it needs to work harder for them, a successor would get the same front engined layout and look like a shrunken Shinari" said Birtwhistle,
The Shinari is pictured below from the Mazda Media site that Mazda kindly gives Mazdarotaryclub access to :Thumbs-up
Lastly Peter also reveled that a "seat of the pants sports car" in the mould of the RX-7 is also on Mazda\'s wish list too. :3gears-lh
i will take on of each please Clive
Lovely :D
Roll on the 16x, may it be turbo charged on the new 7 !

Its on everyones wish list but whether they\'ll do it or not is another question all together.
Good to hear they\'ve not given up totally on the rotary engine :D
Adam
Ya, me wants them too... ;)
Yes, our good luck is that Ford no longer control Mazdas develoment and production. Mazda now can consentrate to do amazing cars. :)
Btw, i have heard some rumours about new engine, 16b... :)
it is said that MAZDA is working on a blown 16X.
The minimum they should do is a turbo RX8 I think. Have a proper 370z rival on the market.
But a new car in the shadow of the FD would be good, hate to be negative but with the latest generation of Eco freidly and 70+ mpg cars it probably won\'t be more than a concept!
Please give me a new rx7 to buy with a 16x... imagine a ported 16x :D
Imagine what a 3 rotor would run like :D
Shaun
I have read a few things that suggest the 16x to be super charged, suppose that would get rid of the latent exhaust heat problem from the turbos and help increase low down torque more along with the longer "stroke" of the 16x
No Mazda make it a turbo!!!!!! Learn from your mistakes with the rx8!
Any kind if forced induction will do. Maybe they will go really
Low compression, like all piston cars have and use boost to gain the power?
Low compression piston engines gained much more
Fuel efficiency when they were dropped.
Let\'s be honest the 9:1 compression is still really high.
I would find it interesting if they tried using diesel, better burn for increased torque and a diesel that would rev?!
The large rotaries that were used in tanks were originally design for diesel so they go effectively stick anything in the tank and the engine would burn it to create power!!
The recent magazine from Mazda had an article on the Shinari and how Mazda went about designing it so capture Kodo (Japanese for Soul of Motion). They were a bit cagey about they kind of engine that would go into the Shinari :2Rolleyes
Still if there is a smaller car in the same family with a rotary then that would pitch the Shinari as the Mazda 6 replacement, and judging by the looks a bit more competition for the BMW 7s.
Ian.

A couple of people are looking into this already using the norton engines i believe. Think in once case they were warming the diesel before it entered the housing.
Tbh I\'d love another rorary to come out, it\'d be awesome. But i think rotaries that drive the wheels directly are a thing of the past :(

Really? Who?
My dad wants one of those norton engines to put in a sprinter, (a class of scooter/2stroke bike)
Anyone know where I could get one from as a surprise?
Rolls Royce have already made a diesel rotary:

They don\'t work well as a diesel due to the low compression and large volume
