Title: FD Oil Sump Plug Washer
Post by: PDale on March 30, 2011, 12:22:13 AM
Hi guys, doing an oil change tomorrow and going to renew the washer. Is it just a bog standard steel washer or is it a copper crush washer? Also, I believe it needs an inside diameter of 14mm, is this correct?

Copper an alloy are both fine :)
If there\'s copper on there already and you can\'t be arsed to get a new one, anneal it by getting it glowing with a torch, and you can reuse it once (or twice if you are reeeeeeally tight :D)

Or replace the sump bolt with a Fumoto oil drain valve :) done it on my FC, don\'t need to jack up the car to change oil anymore and there is no mess :D plus you can\'t drop the bolt in the oil drain tank!

or indeed fail to get your hand out the way in time and watch in fascinated horror as warm / hot used engine oil runs down your sleeve and into your armpit...

Excellent, thanks guys. Those Fumoto oil drain valves look really good, will have to order one for next time, saves making a mess like I normally do!
