Why am asking, the car has lost all power and boost only going to 0.5 and when she is up to workin temp she is putin a flame a couple of feet long out the exhaust all the time when ticking over i have also found a hole in the intercooler pipe could this be the problem or again have i got another awol apex

Not sure bout flames, etc but a knackered cat will knock your boost down, just ask AndyP ;) . And if that pic is of the downpipe i would hazard a guess to say its meant to be clear, mine was when i took it off, if its the same pipe!

Imagine hole in intercooler would knock the boost down a bit also tho...

Just realise the cat temp lite was burning, sh*t.
Could a bad cat cause all this???

Would definately cause a power/boost loss, and the flames could be the cat interals (wadding, etc) burning up if it has got way too hot.

Good time to get a de-cat pipe i reckon ;) :)

I just ordered one today from Ross at Dragon, £100 for an un-silenced one.

He also done a silenced version for £140 so depends how noisy you wanna be :D (Ive gone for un-silenced;) )

Bout a 10 day wait he said as hes had a load of orders for \'em :)

Get that on and you\'ll be getting the good type of flames!
btw, may make your car run a little lean or get some boost spike/creep, have you got an aftermarket ecu, or any other exhaust/filter mods?
If your pretty much standard you should be alright, but if youve already got exhaust filters, etc and standard ecu might be worth asking around to see if anyone is running similar and if they got probs, etc :)

standard ecu i think? Veilside exhaust and hks induction, and hard pipe. I think the noisier the better:D

QuoteI think the noisier the better

:D

You\'ll be on the limit I reckon with the de-cat on, if your thinking about getting a new ecu this would prob be a good time to get it.
The mods you have so far will increase the breathing, but you won\'t be getting extra fuel.

Also a free-flowing exhaust will make it more likely to creep/spike like I said. With a new Ecu you\'ll be able to get the fuelling right and keep the boost in check.

But..you might be alright with the standard ecu :)  just thought i\'d mention it so u can bear it in mind and keep ya engine in good health :)

regards

Andy

ps if your not sure what ecu you have, its behind kick-plate in the passenger footwell, just whip it off and see if its got Apexi, or Motech (:D ), etc plastered all over it :)

Were all the mods on it when you bought it, if so its probably been mapped for these already.

So putting a de-cat would only require a bit of tweeking, might even get away with it without changing anything, i\'ll let someone whos a bit more clued up on knight sports gear take over...:D

Dont really know a good one in england mate so cant help ya there! Best thing i reckon would be once its on, get it on any rolling road and see what the fuellings like, and if you have a boost guage keep an eye on that at first. Might not make enough of a difference to worry about.

No prob mate, think the advice is sound, someone will soon correct me though if i\'ve been leading you astray!

regards

Andy

ps, how much is the rz going for?

Have u had it on the rollers yet, imagine your putting out quite a bit o power with those mods, and any other hidden \'unknowns\' that youve yet to find :D

Hi just to clear something up this thread started with me asking if this pipe was blocked, just to clarify it is the small pipe that goes into the side of the cat is it meant to be blocked?????. Plus when i remove engine , the down pipe is about 4" diameter and is the same the whole way to the back, you get cat and back box in this, is this the norm???

Cheers

only other thing I can think of that goes to cat is air pump feed.
My downpipe is a aftermarket one which is 80mm in diameter so sounds like you have a different one on there too

is it the pipe that is connected to the air pump if it is it should have a hole the size of a pin in it, the air pump pumps air in to the cat at idel to about 3-3800rpm this is for emissions tests.

Dont know about the flames though.

Quick note, if your still going for a de-cat you wont need the air pump anymore.

do ya know about whole MOT thing with de-cats? 95 or before and no worries, after that you\'ll need a proper cat for mot (unless your lucky enough to find a garage that doesn\'t list above a 95 rx, so does the non-cat test, like i did :D !)
Title: Should This be LIke this

We can\'t just take our cars to a garage for a mot there are mot centres and thats all they do all day mots and psvs. Everything is computerised, very hard to get cars passed. At the start it was that bad, that a local ford garage took a new car to see if it would pass but it failed on the brakes, it wasn\'t braking even, crazy or what. Im scared what they are going to said to me,
i could maybe melts the exhaust probe:rolleyes:
