Title: Oil Leak around OMP
Post by: Ste00 on March 18, 2011, 06:55:38 PM
Not had chance to look properly as it happend while it was dark...

I think my OMP is leaking, had the car ideling on the drive (just fitted the new blanking plate for the air pump) and after 20 mins i saw a puddle form so shut the engine down (oil pressure was ok and theirs still oil in the sump).

The leak seems to be around the OMP / sump on the drivers side of the engine, is it common for the OMP to start leaking? if so can i just blank it off blank off all the hose\'s and run premix 2 stroke?

Determined to get the car on the road one of these days...

Is the car a turbo II or an EGI? It might be something as simple as a leaking oil line from the turbo as thats on that side of the engine

Is it definatly oil or could it be from the power steering? Can you feel/see any oil from any of the banjo bolts on the OMP?

Car has never had power steering so its not that...

Couldnt last night but will have a look tomorrow... hoping its just a knackered washer or gasket somewhere and not a big job (still got to put the new hubs on, sort the brakes and lines, re-fit the seats or fit my shiney leather\'s... then MOT time...)

Yeah, the OMP lines are held on with banjo bolts and copper washers, I guess one might have gone hard and isn\'t sealing correctly, although thats quite a bit of oil, perhaps clean it all up and then put some cardboard under the car and see if you can localise where its dripping from

The amount of oil coming out of the OMP is at best a trickle - it might be a split pipe - one of the oil metering lines - but could be a bad dowell leak.

How do i sort a dowell leak? is it a engine apart job?

Clean the area with a rag and then look for new oil should be easy to find by the emount of oil on the floor, also she might be due an oil change by the look of the oil
Cheers

It is I\'m afraid - but a car can run with a small dowell leak - provided the engine oil is kept topped up.

The dowells run along 2 corners - if that\'s the correct word for it. As You look at the front of the engine - one dowell set runs along the bottom left corner to the back of the engine, and one in the top right.

Leaks from these dowells are not uncommon - normally show up as a wet oil patch around the dowell area between joins e.g - between rotor housings and end or centre plate, but aren\'t a heavy leak.

I\'d go with what festa said - clean it and then check see if you can spot where it\'s coming from.

Found the leak :)

Shaft for the OMP to throttle body had popped out and oil was flowing like a river from their... ripped the OMP off and put a blanking plate on, now just need to finish removing the oil jets and blank them off.

Got some pretty much new OMP lines if anyone is in need?

One oil squirter left to come out then the OMP is history

For the N/A they are M10x1.0

For the TII they are M10x1.25

Cheers :) will go on the hunt again this weekend (seat mounting bolts seem to screw in nicely so might raid the scrappys for some more and grind them down)
