Le JVC whateveritis. :)
Thats all for now, stay tuned!
Okay updated.
That JVC thing in the boot is some kind of CD changer, for the JVC stereo that doesn\'t have the cd changer thing with it.
The door trim that was located somewhere in the car is for a TII and thus doesn\'t fit, so is useless.
Has a full service history, which is nice!
Also found something odd - in with the full service history for my \'89 EGI, is the owners manual! ........For a Gen1???? :rollin
So will more than likely pop it up in the for sale section after the weekend when things are a bit more settled with the car, for any Gen1 owner wanting an owners manual in good but not mint condition.
Sorted the engine out for the most part now, just a bit of a dead battery letting down getting it back to life today.
Also changing all the spark plugs for NGK9\'s, I found what was already in there was a complete set of (though they need a good clean) NGK10\'s!!! No they are not for sale. :P lol
Gear stick has some issues, the bolt-down seal is broken so the gear knob and stick itself is wobbly as hell and really horrible, so that\'s in pieces at the moment, that and the knob on it right now is ugly as hell, going to nab Prof\'s OEM gear knob off him and put that back on there for now, til I find one I like more. :)
Also the leather gear stick cowling thingywotsit is in terrible condition, so might be on the look out to replace that at some point.
The replacement door card for the passengers side is because the one in there right now is quite badly damaged, the vent is smashed, no idea how or why that would happen but hey, there\'s a replacement so I\'m not too worried.
So yeah, that\'s todays current update! Most of the car has been taken out and put in the garage just so that theres more room, gear stick is missing and it looks a bit worse for where at the moment with a few bits in and out missing, but it\'ll be sorted soon enough!
Also heres the video of it\'s first attempt at life, the first 4 seconds sounded really promising then the battery gave up the ghost.

I want a red dash now :D
Not a bad looking car, nice work!
looking good :)
bolt down seal?? i have a stock TII shifter somewhere if you need? not sure which you mean is broke
"what we\'ll have to do tomorrow is..?"
i was in your area today was gonna pop past and see your beast but by the time i finished my stuff it was getting late and dark outside

Haha, it does look quite nice doesn\'t it? I wasn\'t expecting the red interior when I first turned up to view it.

Uhhhh, how to describe.... When you unscrew the gear knob, and pull off the cowling and surround, and the thung rubber sheet thing, and maybe another rubber layer, theres a stiffener for the gearstick, black one, thats held down by 3x9mm bolts, the one on mine is completely broken so it wobbles like its out on the lash, whether it\'s in neutral or even in gear, which is really worrying.
Just took a picture, it\'s this thing.
Sod knows what it\'s called, but that\'s why the gear sticks gone all flappy like it\'s on the lash, it\'s got no stiffness to it.
Course I wouldn\'t say no to anything that doesn\'t cost money! :P
Edit:
Oh and as for popping in, we didnt go in til it was dark, so you\'d have caught us and been in time for pasta! :P
looks different to the TII one.
WhatsApp me monday and i\'ll try dig it out.

I\'ll check my EGi spares shed, might have those bits you\'re after :)
The vents are notoriously brittle, delicate touch or the die!
All in all its looking tidy and in a very rare colour :)

I have the replacement entire door card to replace the passengers side, which has a new trim and vent thing on, one that\'s not broken. One thing I noticed, that you\'ll notice too by looking at the pictures, is that some of the interior that\'s black (center console storage arm rest thing, glove box hatch) should be red, but some previous numpty has sprayed them black with a poor quality gloss black paint, which is flaking off revealing the red underneath. T_T
Thanks for checking Brett, I really do appreciate it!! Main things I really need to have the car looking tidy are the passengers side door trim, replacement FTP lenses, possible replacement OEM fog lights for the brake ducts, the ones stuck on the front currently are coming off as they\'re illegal.
Also can anybody quote me for (cross posted) replacement door and ignition barrel for peace of mind, as I only have one key?
Also a possible quote for dual reflector half-height lenses? (the kind that make lazy-eye kits
not look utterly stupid - asking because previous owner fitted lazy eye kit (very badly) and seems a waste to just rip it out, though on stock lights i won\'t be using it)
Looks like it has a red series 4 interior, (in places) as I\'m pretty certain red wasn\'t an option on the later spec EGi\'s...
The door cards I have are of a slighty different pattern to those, the have speaker high up, not far from the arm rest - IIRC they are pretty good condition... will report back later after braving The Shed Of Spares And Dangerous Falling Objects :Giggle

Hahahaha, thanks very much, I really appreciate it! :D
If you could draw up a brief list of the bits and pieces you have in spare, I can let you know which ones I\'ll be happy to take off you! :)
Don\'t forget your hardhat!
Also I don\'t suppose you have a stainless header knocking about? :P
These are the sort of things I\'m going to be looking at replacing ASAP.
First and most important thing will be replacing the alloys as 1, they have Mitsubishi FTO wheels on at the moment, and 2, the wheels all round are perishing, so that\'s an important job to do before it goes on the road, so looking to pick up some not-expensive replacement alloys (preferrably OEM EGI or TII ones) with good rubber on to pass the MOT with later in the year and give safe driving.
Aside from that which won\'t be a cheap replacement, I\'m looking at replacing the following things.
Fixing the gear stick and replacing the black rubber whateveritis.
Hopefully replacing the center console housing as it\'s cracked all over the place and in terrible condition.
Replacing these broken side vends on the corners of the dash (as you can see, with a lot of the interior, somebody disgustingly sprayed the red plastic black, chances of a red OEM replacement are slim.)
(sorry for finger in picture, couldn\'t see the screen) All the trim is missing across the whole back of the dash - that\'s those long parts either side and the bit in the middle.
Again, more of the lovely red interior awfully sprayed black, have a whole replacement passenger door card but need a replacement drivers and passengers side handle.
More of the center plastic stuff that \'was\' red is now sprayed black, again the odds of me being able to restore it to it\'s original beautiful red interior is practically nothing, so I\'m debating sanding it down and spraying it properly.
As above, red interior sprayed black, looks absolutely terrible, and again the odds of replacing it with an OEM non-arsed-up red one are practically nothing.
Both the drivers and the passengers pillar cowlings are broken apart in two places each side, so might be looking to replace those, though it doesn\'t show too much so not too high on the priority list.
That\'s all for now, basically I just want to try and restore the beautiful red interior it once had :/ but the odds of me being able to (or affording to) do that aren\'t really worth thinking about, so will settle for whatever I can get, really.
Something like thinners might work on some parts - door handle, glovebox lid and centre boxes as they\'re probably red plastic rather than painted red in the factory...?
But being able to find original red items will be very hard I think, I\'ve not seen it before at all. Mazda Rotary Parts or similar might be able to help?!
Thanks for the suggestion :)
Also looking for spare FTP lenses, thinking about it!
Since the red interior is pretty much irreplaceable as nobody else has it, I;ve decided to practically strip the car and break out the elbow grease.
This is gonna take a while..........
i got one of those sony cassette headunits lol
whats the switch below the headunit do?
I\'m assuming it\'s for the front fog lights as the one in the console by the.... whatever else is there and the mirrors adjuster is disconnected and broken?
Seriously I have no clue whatsoever.
One upside I noticed today is that the interior red uhhh... carpeting? across the entire room is so pristine it looks like it was only put on yesterday.
One other thing I really do desperately need (and I\'m guessing these will be rare as rocking horse ****) is a replacement sunroof. T_T
I have the feeling mines not far off rusting straight through to the interior and ruining the beautiful practically brand new roofing.
Right, I\'ve got pretty much a whole interior in grey - not sure I can help on the gear stick rubber though...
..Providing you can arrange collection - then come and take what you want - gratis, I need to clear some space. (Drop me a PM)
:wave
There\'s also a JVC 6cd changer in the bood wired in to work with the JVC stereo I have sat in the garage. I don\'t listen to CD\'s anymore though I do everything by SD card and USB storage, so will be keeping the stereo in the civic, to put in the EGI when I sell up and swap over.
Thusly will be putting the 6cd changer and JVC matching stereo up for sale for anybody that wants it for cheaps, it\'s no use to me and it\'s taking up space where I\'ll be installing my twin subs. hopefully after sorting a decent back half-cage-strut-brace that takes up as little of the boot space as possible.
Only thing I think I noticed is that the JVC stereo has a 6cd changer slot on the front shaped almost like a casette for the cd changer controller which doesn\'t seem to be anywhere in the car. Pics to come when I can be arsed to dig it out the garage. XD
Pics following as promised from restoring some of the spray painted red interior.
In a year or so\'s time when I can afford to have the car fully stripped out and resprayed pure gloss white through the entire thing, putting this red interior back in is going to look amaaaaaaaaaaazing! (sorry, massive obsession with white cars having red bits, like interiors or trims, or engine parts etc XD)
Anyway. Before and after shot (one done, one partly done, scroll up for a full before)
One less thing I need to replace to bring the interior back to it\'s original condition. :)
I don\'t suppose somebody can source me a few good open-door and interior shots of what the red-interior\'ed EGI\'s are actually SUPPOSED to look like inside? i.e. what\'s meant to be red, what bits are meant to be black, etc etc.
i "think" everything is supposed to be red to be honest ???
i really cant see mazda putting a car out with a mix of red and black ... ohhh no

Quote from: grinder;748892prob not the easiest stuff to find - hence it being replaced with black stuff over the years :(
Yeah, that\'s probably why, red interior is very retro 70\'s 80\'s style and black was the big thing in the leadup to the early 90\'s so red got harder to shift. :/
I absolutely love red, my end-goal is to have my EGI very similar to the pic above - white with red interior and red accents here and there, and polish & paint the engine shined metal, white and red when I swap out for the TII.
So hopefully pretty much what\'s pictured above maybe with (yeah right) a Mariah kit.
if thats the plan for your car , i believe you have your work cut out ;)
and the thing in the centre console - should be a coin holder and front and rear fog light switches ( although the front fog switch is more than rare on a EGI ) and a miror switch
are the switches broke , or is the wiring all a mess ??

From what I can tell the front fog lights switch has been moved to the front of the center console rather than by the electric mirrors, tested today and it does turn the front fog lights on and off, no idea what the wiring is like on it, everything on this car seems to be a bit cowboy builder style.
The switch that is now in the coin holder bit by the mirror toggle is not connected to anything, nor does it behave properly, it wobbles back and forth, still switches on and off but seems a little broken - good thing is the front fog lights switch I DO have can always be moved back there and re-wired properly. Unless the broken one is meant to do the rear fogs, I have no idea where the hell anything goes or is even meant to go in this car, it\'s like it\'s been fully rewired, just really badly. T_T
Are you sure thats a foglight and not an adjustable suspension switch?
Quote from: m1tch;749018Are you sure thats a foglight and not an adjustable suspension switch?
I don\'t know whether that\'s a serious question or a joke >_>
Serious question, but unlikely unless the car is an import...
Car\'s not an import, so highly doubt it. Could be the adjustable suspension switch but having had a look and currently have that whole section out, theres no connector it can actually click into, so I\'m guessing a feature not installed or switch put there for the sake of it.
that could of been pretty cool if it did have it !
but looking at the pics - there are no motors on the top of the front struts
On the UK cars, that switch was for an optional front fog light.
The adjustable suspension stuff was only on the GTU/GTX N/A\'s they got in the states, and the switches and stuff for that are where we have coin holders. On some verts with speakers in the headrest, they have audio controls in that same space.
I think pretty much all the wiring options are provided underneath the cowling.

That explains the 5000 plugs that don\'t connect to anything under that central arm rest then!
i suppose in theory in the arm rest you could have wiring for ...
Front Fogs
Rear Fogs
Adjustable Suspension
Audio Controls
Elec Mirrors
so there could be a fair bit of stuff in there ;)

IT LIVES!!!! :D
Edit:
Yes that\'s me, yes that\'s my voice (other than Prof\'s), yes I look awful, commence p**s-taking!
Wahey! Well done you 2! What did it need?
Well on Prof\'s advice the first time round we de-flooded, and used the foot-to-floor method when cranking to keep the engine clear of fuel.
Only mine doesn\'t have fuel cutout, so we were just re-flooding it XD
After another de-flood and trying the NOT foot to floor method, it was right as rain! :D
Didn\'t manage to catch it on the video but shortly after that it popped a massive shot and Prof got a bit freaked out since he parks right behind XD lol
Edit:
Is also needing a new header, gasket and (if it isn\'t a one piece) the mid section of pipe to replace the cats - from the cans down to where the Y-pipe meets the cat\'s it\'s perfectly fine, the rest however needs replacing.
Anybody got one going free, cheap or grinder price?
I might know of a header, but it\'s not as simple as just swapping it all over... Ideally you want to dump the airpump and block off the valve assemblies on the inlet at the same time. It\'s well worth saving up to do it in one hit :)

Sounds like this isn\'t going to get done any time soon. T_T let\'s hope it\'s just a gasket?
The downpipe on the egi is co-axial, with blown air going around the outer section, it\'s a leak or a split on that layer that you can probably hear...
I will have a set of spare block off plates :)
Firstly we need to jack it up and assess the problem properly from underneath, probably take some photo\'s etc, see which bits are okay and which bits need sorting desperately before it can go on the road. But anything is welcome. :)
Might also be the split air pipe, they rust through with no provocation!
Quote from: m1tch;749586I will have a set of spare block off plates :)
Yes please :D
Quote from: papercutout;749701Yes please :D
NOO! MINE!!!! (What are they? >_>) MINE I SAY!!!
Hahaha. They\'re the blanking plates for when you remove the air pump... Basically when you remove it you have to put a plate over each of the 2 holes that are there, and seal them.
Don\'t worry, John has some spares too I think - or at least a template.
Ahhhh I see. (I don\'t, but we\'ll pretend I know what you just said) :)
The fittings for those plates are different from TII to EGi IIRC, so it\'s possible that M1tch\'s won\'t fit....
Good point!
haha the smile of your face :p
good its working now :)
And there was me trying not to be caught on camera cause my \'dirty\' clothes for doing car stuff make me look like a homeless bloke XD
Quote from: Brett;749755The fittings for those plates are different from TII to EGi IIRC, so it\'s possible that M1tch\'s won\'t fit....
This can easily be fixed if a Turbo II engine was fitted :2Rolleyes
Well you all know that a bunch of random interior bits had been sprayed a really crappy glossy black by we think the person that owned the car before the guy I bought it from, since he only had it a couple of months.
These are the bits you all know about that had been sprayed and needed de-painting.
Well, whilst playing about in the car a bit I noticed some more interior was scratched, and had red underneath. So, I discovered that even less of the red interior needs replacing, just more of it needs de-painting to bring back the original colour.
Here\'s an example, this is just what I could get out of the front, I still have the back half to do.
So yeah, much more work to do than first thought >_> Might need another 10 or so bottles of nail polish remover....
Still have that big black piece of interior panel to get off when I figure out how on both sides in the back, and loads more panels and strips in the boot. Also pulling the pillars off I discovered how brittle the plastic had become, and now my pillar cowlings are in 3 - 4 pieces each :) will have to get some fibreglass on the insides of them when theyre all cleaned up.
And finally, a couple of pics of the red cloth interior as promised ages ago, now that they aren\'t covered in stuff.

Hmmm, love it! Is that a sunroof too?
I\'m really starting to like the red... Makes me miss my Graphite T2 with the red leather... :(
Quote from: papercutout;750138Hmmm, love it! Is that a sunroof too?
Yeah it\'s a sunroof, did they do a Gen2 slicktop then? I thought all Coupe\'s had sunroofs??

Awwww, I absolutely adore the red!!!
When I get chance and have the money I want to get the bucket seats in there currently re-upholstered in red to match what the original seas would have looked like to bring the car back to a more OEM look.
Quote from: Lacey;749563Anybody got one going free, cheap or grinder price?

I dare say with no pun intended that we may be in competition for tight-arsed-ness. :cool

i like a challenge at the best of times ;)
This is getting a LITTLE bit gay lads. Calm down!
I\'m a contender too, but I don\'t advertise it, which makes my life simpler!

How is it gay if I\'m not a bloke? :P
Also massive MASSIVE thank you to Brett for helping with some of my missing or damaged parts, so unbelievably grateful, will have a few nice bevs waiting for you hopefully in the car at Brooklands for you to take home. :)
Pics to come when I can stand back up again. So tired now. T_T
LoL! No problem - glad someone wants and its not going to waste :)
Quote from: Lacey;750526How is it gay if I\'m not a bloke? :P
It\'s not. It\'s just such a rarity to find a woman properly into cars, let alone a specific type of RX7 I thought it couldn\'t happen :p
It\'s a nice surprise though...
Quote from: Brett;750533LoL! No problem - glad someone wants and its not going to waste :)
Indeed! Once the throttle-body and top section from you has been properly refurbed and hyper-polished, will confirm everything in it is perfecto, swap them over and do the same with the current one that\'s on there, and sell on a polished up nice and shiny top section and throttle body. :)

How is it a surprise? I was stood talking to you last Brooklands back when I could still stand up!! You know me already dammit! :P
Ha! Lacey has become instantly forgetable! :spank
I\'ll get you a big flag to hold or something at Brooklands :Giggle
I had a feeling it was you, but we don\'t have name badges/forum names and you didn\'t have a car back then (did you?), so I thought you came with Dave for a fun day out! Nice to put a face to a name!

Well I\'ll be the one in the wheelchair this time running peoples toes over who annoy me, hard to miss the cripple. :P

Noooo, Dave came in his car and Eileen and myself came in the Civic which I still have (parked round the front), and will be bringing to Brooklands this year as well since the EGI won\'t be on the road til about early June.
Put a face to a name? :P
I was stood right here talking to you, and I even posted this photo in the n00bs \'hello\' section like a week ago already XD

That\'s Liam (L18M) you\'re stood next to there, I\'m the guy with the ponytail/undercut.
I don\'t check the \'hello\' section, I\'m very antisocial on the forum :p \'Gen 2\' and \'For Sale\' sections only!

I know that\'s Liam!! lol I meant that\'s exactly where I was stood when I was talking to you, right next to Prof\'s cab. You and I were talking I think about RX-7\'s and US spec rotaries? Or at least something to do with the US. Was so long ago I don\'t remember so well what it was, just the general subject. T_T
You remember better than me, I just remember chatting to you!
Someone got pwnd then, I\'m just not sure who? :o :Giggle
I always do the pwning ;P
FYI, this is the basic definition of \'Grinder price\'
Grinder invented the 96p car cover, there is an expensive price, good price, fair price, cheap price, bargain price and then there is Grinder price.
Grinder price is always the best price you can get as it is usually either free with NSA or costs less than the fuel you use to get it :) right, lets use this thread to define \'grinder price\'
Grinder price: a low price paid for an item in which the cost of the item is less than the cost of postage/fuel to get the item back home. A grinder price item is usually an item that is deemed hard to come by or uncommon, which increases the legendarily status of \'grinder price\' on an object when bought at a lower price.
Example 1: a mint condition rear spoiler is for sale for £20, the cost of the trip to get the item is £25, this spoiler is therefore at \'grinder price\'
Example 2: a genuine ARC TMIC appears on *insert selling place here* this item isn\'t spotted by anyone and so sells for 99p, not only would this item be at Grinder price, but would also be EPIC WIN :)
Example 3: Grinder himself designs/invents something that uses other Grinder price objects to create another object/invention that is better than the 2 objects that they started out as, ie synergy.
In conclusion, Grinder price is the best price you can get for an item which can sometime include the price of \'free\' but is better than if it was at a bargain price.
This concludes the definition of Grinder price :)
Grinder price can also include refusing to spend more than £4 on brake fluid ;)
For the love of god somebody submit that to Wikipedia >_>
Quote from: Brett;750669Grinder price can also include refusing to spend more than £4 on brake fluid ;)
Thats per gallon yeah?
Only gallon? You mean Grinder doesn\'t buy off-the-lorry in drums?
Doing wiki page atm - great minds etc ;)
Quote from: Brett;750676Doing wiki page atm - great minds atc ;)
etc^ :P lol
Don\'t know what you mean...
you put \'great minds atc\', atc isn\'t an abbreviation of anything, etc is ;P
Don\'t forget to reference the 96p car cover!

Abusing your mod powers are we? ;P
Damn right I am - whats the point of power if you don\'t abuse it? :D
Even had the ban hammer out earlier ;)
Only because I suggested it ;P besides I caught it first!
Nah - it had been reported before then... but thanks for the phrase \'Ban Hammer\' - I\'ll be keeping that! :D
~Welcome! Stick Ban Hammer in google image search and you get loads of pics :)
Ok, I replace my last comment reference \'gays\' with \'married couple\'...
It\'s quite amusing though :p
Maybe I should marry Brett and lay a 50% claim on the Montrose ;P
There would have to be a pre-nup!
Bah I\'ve been rumbled XD
sweet looking fc :)
