Title: 1984 gold rx7
Post by: vin likes diesel on March 11, 2011, 11:57:46 PM
Hi my name is Vin and i have just purchased my first rotary, I know nothing about them so this is all new to me, the down side is that i bought the car for its running gear to put in a 1950\'smorris oxford. The up side could be the spares available to kep more cars on the road
Not sure if it is any thing special i picked it up as a non runner which had last run 2-3 years ago.
The first stop on the way home was the petrol garage to throw a tenners worth in it, when home i jumped it and it fired and run straight away and with a bled clutch it drove.

Hi Vin and a big WELCOME to the forum - good choice of model for 1st RX7 and nice colour too.  Where did you pick her up?
Could you please contact our Mr Nock as he collects all vehicle data and the information is very useful to many of us.

What sort of condition is the body in as it looks quite tidy - then again they all do from a distance and until you start inspecting the obvious danger spots.
These cars are a leasure to work on and relatively simple to repair - if you are that way inclined.

I wish we lived closer to each other as I can see some body panels that I am interested in already.

Hi, many thanks for the welcome, i bought it from south london, peckham. It was bought by a gentleman with a body shop under some railway arches to do up and sell 2-3 years ago.
Looking at the car the body seems quite solid, everything seems to work, ie headlights pop up, electric windows work but they need the mechanism cleaning as where the car has been stood.
It has seats to the rear and a glass sunroof which takes up a fair part of the roof.
cheers vin

I take it it was a private sale then?
Body does sound reasonable and as for the glass sunroof - there will probably be a few people interested in this.  Good luck if you intend to sell it.

Thats why i joined the forum, I could not bring myself to just run it in to the scrap yard after taking the bits i needed as i wanted to help others with some bits for their projects, one car could help ten people out. Also you guys have the knoledge of these engine where as i have none .lol. they sound so nice, i watched in amazement when it started as i am only used to piston engines.
Hopefully it will not upset anyone.
cheers vin

Yes it was a private sale , as for the sun roof are they rare in glass?
There car will stay as a whole until i get it up the workshop so knowing me i will end up welding the sill and driving it.lol.

Even if you do go ahead with breaking her Vin I\'m sure there would be interest in the shell if it is as solid as it looks rather than being cut up. (We\'ve all got to think about future proofing ourselves!)

If the body really is that good Vin, gone on - weld it up, you know you want too really.
As for running gear - there is another car (in red) which ended last night on eBay with no others.  This would be better for the running gear so that you can fix the gold one.
Good luck.

Not thinking of cutting the shell up if it is good, being a hotrodder we know all about recycling.lol. hopefully none of it will end at the scrappy.

Hi Vin,
if you\'re after a donor for the suspension etc, a series 3 RX7 is a much better bet... beefier suspension, bigger brakes and a more common wheel pcd... gives you many more options

Morning Vin.

Hope you \'do her up\' and stay around....we think we\'re a nice bunch on here

The car came from Richard Knights in Jan 1984.
Before Peckham it was in Aldershot where it had been dropped off at a wreckers for breaking....It\'s on here in another post somewhere. It\'s a lucky car that one; escaped before, can it do it again?

The glass roof will repay you if you decide to sell. The other lads on here always get hold of metal roofs if they can. Want a Silver one?   Joking mate the glass is  sought after.

Hi Vin, If you do decide to break and have a working electric aerial, you can put me down for that, but I would much rather see it back on the road.

As much as I quite want that fuel tank... she looks far to good to break in those photos!

Much less arch rot than I\'ve had to deal with for sure!

Sorry Vin, I don\'t think you\'ll be able to as a guest. Only overseas guests are given the PM facility.

The other way would be to put your email up......(in the form dgnock at btopenworld dot com) and ask people to get in touch via email. Or of course you can post a mobile no.

David, spank yourself, too slow; post crossed.

just got me log book back from dvla and states this as a one owner from new and now me. phoned the address noted on logbook after a google search but not there. shame because if the original owner wanted it back he could have had it.

That\'s a shame Vin. Glad to see that you care about things like returning logbooks. A lot wouldn\'t care.

The car was at Aldershot before Peckham.....somewhere called \'Repairable Vehicles\'. It had been dropped off for crushing.

A guy Adam6900 was the man at the wreckers. He might care enough to go into their records to find where the original owner lives now. All a lot of work though Vin. I don\'t think I\'d bother.

If you like I\'ll just tag a note on my register to say that you\'re retaining the logbook should he/she ever make enquiries about their car?

If so drop me a PM with your address so I can put him/her in touch in 15 years time.

Dave

well i still have the car complete for another week or so but i think the shell looks very solid , chassis rails look good too so i will offer the shell with what ever bits are left for sale with the logbook so some one will have a choice. If i did not have so many projects i think i might have saved it .

Well things are looking up for the old mazda , a mate of a mate said he would have it off me for a drifting project so no panels are available for sale now, all the better he said that i was stipping  the interior. looks like it has got nine lives .

Please let me know roughly where it ends up Vin, if your mate doesn\'t mind. You\'ve seen how I like to keep a log.

Plus little TYL is on death row at the moment.....It would be nice to lift him back out of the Limbo bit of my Register, back into Living Cars again.

i ended up taking it to a metal recyclers, they dont do dismantling they just grab it off the trailer with the big grab.

If i had some where to put it i would have stripped it, but it should have been gone yesterday but i got let down with the buyer at the last minute, should have at least taken a deposit.
