Just been trying to get some insurance quotes bearing in mind I\'m 23 (24 in April) and the best I have got is £752 TPFT which I\'d sooner not have and I\'ve tried Peter Best, Admiral (current insurers), Adrian Flux and Sky Insurance. It\'ll be a second car limited to 3,000miles a year and garaged. Anyone got any ideas or should I go for the TPFT for a year until I\'m 25?
TPFT isn\'t really worth the paper it\'s written on tbh matey. If you bin it on a roundabout somewhere you\'re gonna be left with no car and no cash. For an FD it\'s a poisoned chalice to be honest.
I got mine at 23. (5years NCB, no points) and that came in at £1074 fully comp with Sky. I\'d be VERY surprised if you can get it for under a grand tbh. But in my opinion its worth it. The extra years NCB will come in handy if for whatever reason you don\'t get classic policy.

there is no way thats for an FD? they normally get the engine CC wrong on the quotes so double check it.
Being under 25 I\'m struggling for fully comp insurance here, I really didn\'t fancy going for TPFT but I have no idea where to go for this insurance. I\'d happily pay £1000 for my insurance. Next month I\'ll be 24 with 3 years but it still won\'t count for nothing. Are there any under 25s here on fully comp?
Give A-Plan a go, I swapped from Sky to them at 24 and got insured for £876 if that helps?

Cheers pal, I\'ll give them a buzz tomorrow and let you know how I get on
QuoteGive A-Plan a go
I thought the normal A-Plan branch couldn\'t do it they forward you on to their specialist dept.
May work but I did no good with them and i\'m ooooooooold
John
Im with admiral fully comp in my FC, but I guess if its an FD its 2 insurance groups higher and it is worth more lol
i had the very same problem mate im 23 aswell, had the car insured for with sky last year made no claims or anything asnd it raised by over 400 quid which is the reason i have taken it off the road
Kris
Admiral can cover me until my insurance renewal is due but can\'t quote yet for a full term until 21 days before, I could buy the rx7 and keep it off the road for a bit, give me chance to get it how I want, I\'ll definitely keep trying though thanks guys
i was with adtrian flux which was around £1100 1yncb, but proof of previous performance cars ownership when i was 23. i ended up getting screwed because i changed the car halfway through the policy, and then back to the rx7 when it was back on the road.
currenty with swinton which came in at £680
yer 21 fully comp admirl 1300 for a year limited to 5000 miles all mods declared
1300 at 21 with mods is pretty good
What mods is it?
I\'ll get to find out admiral within 3 weeks of my renewal, they\'ve always been good to me so there is hope yet, lol

Likewise here, 23 years old, no points, no claims on record, 5 years PNCB, and cheapest I can possibly get it (and this is on an FC!!) is £720 annually, ON AN EGI!!
As for an FD, all my quotes came back between £800 and £1400 annually, with PNCB, 3k miles a year, garaged, social only - no commuting. It\'s messed up, they don\'t even ask about the most powerful car you\'ve driven to know if your just a boy racer buying something fast or a genuine enthusiast!
I\'m not going to buy the car until next month when I\'m 24 and have my 3rd year no claims, that way I\'ll only have to put up with a year of higher insurance until I\'m 25. If I do buy one before I\'m sure father will enjoy running it for a month. Hopefully going to look at the one Jimmy has for sale this weekend so I need something sorted just in case :2Rolleyes

The other side of the coin I\'ve seen from friends, not owning Rx7s but still, is that if you did bin it at a roundabout and try and claim, the cost of trying to insure anything for the next 5 years would basically cost more than the car you binned!
TPFT gives you the 3rd party cover you need to keep things legal and that bit of extra reassurance that if it gets stolen you\'ll get some cash.
£700ish TPFT on an FD at 23 sounds pretty good to me, I got quotes more like £1300 TPFT on an FD last year (when I was 23)!
That is a side I never thought of Steve thanks, I thought £752 for TPFT wasn\'t too bad but obviously if I can get fully comp then I will, I\'ll definitely be going fully comp at 25 so I just have to be careful for a year, lol. By the way, I do have experience with high powered rear wheel drive cars as I use father in laws 6.3l V8 Cobra on odd occassions including the odd track.

A lot of us have driven (and not ditched) cars far more powerful than we drive ourselves, be it on track days, experiences, or a mate letting you drive his joy for a bit. Insurance companies don\'t care about your driving experience, they\'ve set the market up so that only their factors matter, which makes insurance expensive for everybody. Just irritates me that anybody under 25 is deemed a high accident risk, when mature guys buying super sporty things in a mid life crises tend to cause more claims than young people! (chavs in saxo\'s excluded)
No I completely agree with you Lacey, I was refering to the whole TPFT and the roundabout scenario, I\'m not ....y or anything, just highlighting a fact that I\'m not a rookie wannabe and will crash the first time I put my foot down.
It does annoy me too that insurance companies car little about drving experience but I guess we all have to live with it and avoid the idiots on the road!!
Guys you seem to forget 1 in 4 drivers under 25 "Will" have an accident that is a fact, where as drivers in their 30s-40s its something like 1 in 20. So you only have your peers to blame no matter how good a driver you are.
Hence why insurance premuims are loaded against young drivers and young drivers whether you like it or not they are a higer accident risk, driving experiance does count of what car you have driven in the past, this is the difference between in actually getting a quote or being turned down flat.
I remember paying over a grand in insurance for my first ever car fiesta 1.1L 20 years ago lol, thats the same as paying 2 grand in todays money, so in real terms insurance cost has actually gone down for people.
(my facts are based on me working in the IT departments of insurance companies over the last 10 years)
First hear on my Honda Civic was nearly 2 grand, today I pay £440 FC with PNCB for life, 5 years no claims at this years renewal, and I\'ve driven a Ford Falcon 6l V8 so called \'supercar\' which has had no effect on my insurance whatsoever. It still costs me over a grand just to be considered on insurance for an FD. I don\'t have any claims on record whatsoever, I\'ve qualified early for PNCB for life BECAUSE I\'m a good driver, far as I know it\'s meant to be after 6+ years, I\'m only coming up to my 5th this renewal. It\'s just irritating that even specialty or \'caring\' insurers still go by a peer group basis, and not on a case-by-case basis, especially if the person in question has an excellent safety record!
yip it sucks , I have been paying high insurance premuims for most of my driving life, I have had various fast cars since I was 19, but thats due to where I live, post codes screw up peoples premuims to.
But thats how underwriters operate, they put in various variables into a rating program with percieved risks to get your premium. Remember most insurance companies dont make any actual profit on the premuim, they only make profit when they invest your premuim (collected premuim) into the money markets, bonds, shares etc etc
Premuims themselves have gone up over the last couple of years due to the recession and the number fradulant claims has sharply risen, so insurance companies have to recover their costs in some way. Plus there have been a number of underwriting mistakes, where they have not got the risks calculated corrected and lost a bundle of money, 3-4 major insurance underwriters went to the wall over the last few years. which means there is less competition and hence why comapnies can rise their premuims with less chance of losing business.
The problem is that statistics shouldn\'t (said in a way that I understand why insurance companies must count statistics) count for an individual person and I know it would be a real hassle for insurers to be able to take a more individual approach and this would just drive up the cost of insurance too. I just hate the thought that we are paying for all the "unfriendly" people. Anyways, I\'m sure I\'ll get insurance for my new car soon.
Best of luck sorting your insurance for reasonable cost H4rry :)
Gonna need all the luck that I can get, lol
I\'ve just got a quote from greenlight insurance for £1,900, thinking the TPFT might be the best option for a year unless Admiral can pull through for me on a multi-car quote
have you got more than 1 car in the house hold cause i got a vxr as well for my day 2 day car i have both of these cars insured with them for a touch less than 2k i told them everything that i have got on both cars they were ok with it and the best part of it was the price and how helpful they are dont get me wrong the mods that i have got on my rx is nothing major but its serious enough that most insurance comp dont wanna touch me so give them a try good luck
Yeah we have 7 cars in the household and I\'ll be running two of them, Admiral have quoted me £1437 for an rx and 1.2 corsa before now, only problem is I don\'t think that the rx was classed as an import but if they offered that again I\'d take their hand off
oh damn, what mods on the RX7?
Im looking at paying around £2100 for the same thing and im 22!
Interesting thread. I have just rung Sky about amending my policy to an RX7 from my 200SX, and it has to be referred to a head underwriter. I expect my dream is about to be shattered when I get the callback. I paid £815 at 21 for my 200SX, then £890 at 22 thanks to the market wide premium increases. I\'m expecting some stupid figure back now, and I\'m 23 next week.
My insurance was cheaper on my FD with all mods declared than on my big standard work car.
With the insurance companies around you can get some good deals. They become exceptionally cheap when you become 25 though
I found that with my Nissan, cheaper modified than standard. However, I\'m getting a strange feeling about this one. Might have to wait until I\'m closer to my renewal and ring around the various companies as I\'ll actually be 23 and have an extra years NCB to help.
I\'ve also been told to try a classic policy, which I was considering beforehand. I may even try a trade policy as a few people I know run their modified cars on them, and I\'ll be wanting a cheap car to hack around in the winter.
Hi mate just thought i\'d let you know my exp on trade policies.
I have a trade policy and it\'s great right up til you need to make a claim! Then your gonna get trade value for your car.... eventually no courtesy car no frills no legal etc .
I do trade about 20 cars a year as a part time thing along with MOT repairs and servicing and i am registered with HMRC.
The broker will want to see prove of you trading! i.e registering reg numbers and removing them for MID purposes and anything out of the ordinary like an rx7 will have to be declared! My old vx220 was on it and they stipulated a £750 excess in the event of a claim at trade value!
In addition when i skidded on ice a few years back in my Evo 8 FQ300 the car sat in a compound for 4 months whilst the insurance company and I debated the value! They won!
I couldn\'t jump in a Veyron and tell the owner it\'s ok i\'m insured i have a trade policy, it\'s a big misconception.
I think I\'d compare a trade policy to " we buy any car" in the event of any claim!
Good luck with finding a rx7:cheers, I did the nissan thing but i\'m now smitten with rotary, I\'ve had a s12 s13 s14 s14a r33gts r33gtr and I never intend to sell the rx7 and it\'s not even finished......it\'s a car worth paying the insurance for! My trade policy is 4 figure and my indemnity is less than 10K!

Does it? Im 25 and will be 26 in April, sorted my insurance last week with Adrian Flux ready to go for the 1st of Feb, just over £650 mods declared.
All good apart from I checked through the policy paperwork today and it would appear the woman on the phone seemed to not hear me say \'yes\' when asked is it an import! Anyway not happy, expect they\'ll either say they can\'t cover me or it will go sky high when I ring them back!
So other suggestions of companies to try please!?
i got mine at 22 with admiral was an import £1300 fully comp which i thought was reasonable no limited mileage or anything. 3 points 5 years no claims
As your ringing around it\'s worth knowing that many insurance company\'s will give an extra discount if your a full owners club member (not just forum guest) and can produce a valid club membership number that can be verified from the relevant club.
It\'s also worth bearing in mind that on top of this these cars qualify for classic car insurance if you have a second car and many will give an agreed value upon receipt of a letter from the club which means you will get a lot lot more if something terrible happens to the car
This means you will get something sensible for a payout and not just their idea of "market value".
Many many FD\'s and others) have tens of thousands of pounds spent but no valuation though this club and yet stand to loose just about everything if something goes badly wrong in the event of an accident be it their fault not.
Sadly over the years I have come across some real heart breakers because of no valuation letters being in place with our cars.
I\'ve also come across good news when agreed valuations are in place with one company paying out £9,000 to get a members FD put back together after a shunt
hope this helps
TBH I\'d never claim for my own car unless it was something worth claiming for. I only go FC for windscreen cover, and then insurance is a mere legality to me.
I\'d just sell what I could and go from there.
I\'ll be getting my FD soon, waiting for it to be registered and away I go. I phoned my current insurer Sky and asked them what the price would be when renewal comes (April)
I\'m 25 at the minute with 3 Years NCB, based on that she gave me a quote of £1150, I\'m expecting this to go down as renewal I\'ll have another years NCB and I\'ll be 26. If its still pretty high I\'ll ring Pete best, although I\'ve heard you have to be 30 now?
I currently pay £780 on an MR2 with 3.0 V6 conversion all mods declared.
Steve
Just did a quick admiral quote for a guide as they\'re not so bad usually.
£1609 FC for me at 23 on a Standard Import, 5 years NCB, 6 years licence, no claims/convictions, 5K miles, no voluntary excess, locked garage, SDP only.
That\'s horrendous, I pay just shy of half that on a modified 200sx! Obviously Flux and the like should be better, but can\'t imagine they\'re £800 better :(
So, Adrian Flux are coming back at £1160 FC on a currently unregistered standard engined but modified RX, better but still makes me wince.
Currently insured with Sky, who will only do TPFT and won\'t add windscreen cover, so that\'s a customer lost by them.
REIS & Peter Best say 25. Performance Direct were less than helpful too.
Isn\'t looking promising TBH.
I\'m 28 years old. 5 years NCB, no points or convictions. 1992 FD twin turbo all mods declared. £210 fully comp. £100 excess. limited to 1500 miles per year. Car on driveway.
Peter Best
I\'m going to give Pete Best a ring when renewals due thats for sure.
Steve
I\'m 23 too. Gone with Elephant on a multicar policy and they were really helpfull to be honest.
For paid £-1300 with no NCBs, 2.5 years driving and uninsured 3rd party accident cover.
About the price I was expecting but It had to be paid up front.
So, I\'m now insured on an RX7 :cheers
I tried Adrian Flux, Flux Direct, Sky, Performance Direct and Admiral...
I\'ve been using TPFT since I started driving, I\'ll be 25 this year, that\'s when I\'ll go fully comp. Just don\'t drive like a loon and TPFT will be alright for you until premiums go down.
LOL No it won\'t, I want Windscreen cover. Sod paying hundreds for a windscreen.
Don\'t smash your windscreen either lol.
Can\'t guarantee it won\'t happen, had 2 cars get stonechips beyond repair.
