Hi again ppl i had a quick favour to ask of everyone attending this, now i know im not a paid member and dont have much standing but if you can consider this i would be grateful.
My mum works for a national charity called KIDS and they would like to treat some of their clients to a day out at Japfest and a passenger ride round the track.
Now being a registered charity they will be paying there way in all of this, so their tickets, fuel etc.
I think they have 3 or 4 over 18\'s so they comply with the track rules. Anyone interested in giving these young adults a once in a lifetime thrill please let me know ASAP.
Those with a seat going spare will be paid their fuel and anyother costs incurred from having a passenger.
Cheers very much ppl :)
Mike

You\'ve got to remember both clubs work in different ways the RX8OC works by getting the money up front and then buying the tickets so they are not left out of pocket, the MRC buy the tickets and then sell them on to their members this means people don\'t need to make their mind up as early on but does mean they\'ll take a hit on any unsold tickets.
As for the track time the refund for the RX8OC track time as said in the thread over on the RX8OC site it\'ll be given within 14days of Japfest taking place.

Aston! It\'s only £20 mate! What\'s that on top of all the fuel you\'ll be using to get down to Japfest :D
Anyways, hope you can rustle up a few readies to join us. You know you\'ll be sick if you\'re watching us all on track and you\'re not :p
For anyone else still thinking about joining in, and in case you missed the link posted up by Lisa, our slot is 10.12am. That\'s great as it\'s early in the day to go out and get some track action, then enjoy the adrenaline buzz for the next few hours, boring everyone you can find with your tales of "yeah, I was out there earlier.....":D

Hi Keith
The organiser of Japfest is "Future Publishing Limited", a media company not normally associated with trackdays. If you are with REIS for your insurance, let me know, as the Japfest organiser is not on their "approved list", but I\'m guessing it is really the Castle Combe track operator who will be running the day itself. I know a lot of people are insured on REIS policies, which includes trackday cover, and I\'ll ask the question on behalf of everyone if that is your insurer, to see if cover can be provided.
:):Thumbs-up Well done Will, I guess you\'ve managed to confirm some time off after all.
On the subject of trackday insurance, when I got insurance for Japfest last year it was listed as an "Adrian Flux Show Series" or something similar through moris.net.
Malcolm, I can\'t wait, I\'ve not had a track session since Mallory last year and I\'m getting concerned that I\'ve forgotten how to do it! Might see if Aston\'s got any meat left on the old R888s I gave him otherwise I\'m on road tyres and that never feels as fun.
Any one on the list not done a track day before? well i have not, done hillclimbs and auto tests, got to get a few track days in before im too old lol, so any tips from the experienced drivers apart from don,t go off track.
Here\'s a few, don\'t go hell for leather, keep to your own pace. Obey the overtaking/overtaken rules. Try and stay as smooth as possible.
At Coombe, there\'s not a lot of run off so you don\'t want to be over ambitious. Better to be a bit slower rather than wreck the car. Particularly true on the final kink along the start finish where if you look on youtube you\'ll find several videos of people who were over ambitious with their entry speed and ended up in the wall.

Real pleased to see this post John, you will love it.
Personally I always only say "just go as fast as YOU feel comfortable with", thats all you need to know, then the more comfortable you feel the faster and better you will go.
At the end of last year I did a NASCAR track session in America and at the briefing it amused me that the guy said exactly the same as above, nothing else just that.
Hope this helps
Yes Clive i think those thoughts were in my mind, i will just start at the back lol and see how i go. thanks for advice all
^^^ John, you\'ll probably have masses of adrenaline running round prior to the tracktime session. I\'m sure you\'ll be apprehensive (the best way to be!) for the first lap or so, but once you\'ve got those laps done you will thoroughly enjoy it. If faster cars appear in your mirrors, just let them past and enjoy the circuit at the pace you are happy with.
Although I\'ve done about 15 trackdays, I\'ve never done Castle Combe before, so I\'m really looking forward to it, but with some apprehension as it\'s my first time there! I\'ll be looking at some "in car" youtube videos prior to the day to acclimatise myself to what the circuit looks like form the driver\'s perspective. I suggest you do the same as it\'s a good way to learn the circuit. Here\'s a link to two examples I found...
MGB V8 at Castle Combe (http://youtu.be/lWa4n7iVCm8)
RX-8 at Castle Combe (http://youtu.be/6Kxof8wUsyw)
The RX8 footage is possibly mine from Japfest last year!
Actually it\'s not.
This one\'s mine!

Excellent news that this is now full as Malcolm and myself wanted all of you to put on a Rotary only session to show the great and varied cars that Mazdarotaryclub encompasses in front of the largest Japanese car event in Europe :Thumbsup!
Have fun out there :D
Yay! which car you taking on track Clive?
:Thumbs-up A huge thankyou to everyone\'s support on this.
I persuaded Clive to stump up some club cash upfront to secure an exclusive track session (and discount), as this was the only way Japfest would guarantee a slot for us. If we\'d have got less than 15 people takeup the offer then I would have been hugely embarrassed! To get all 20 filled is fantastic.
I know (from my trackday experiences) that we\'ll have a really great time out there on track and will, at the same time, be showing our hugely varied collection of rotary powered cars to the massive crowds.
You never know, this could become a regular feature of future attendances at Japfest........
Quote from: countzero1971;760242Yay! which car you taking on track Clive?
I feel the RX-4 would be just a little slow :( so it will have to be the RX-8 :D
Is the plan to complete the first lap in some sort of pre agreed formation. Its rare to have so many Rotary\'s on the track at the same time, so a great opportunity for lots of photos. (http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif)
Nice idea Chris. I have absolutely nothing from the Japfest organisers about exactly how the track sessions will run, so we may not find out until the briefing on the day. If that\'s the case, and if it is just our session in the briefing at 9.10am, I might try and sneak in an extra brief about keeping "grouped" for the first lap - if they\'ll let me! Some sort of two abreast formation, but staggered for safety, might work? After rounding the last corner onto the S/F straight then each car in the stagger can pull away and the next car leaves a gap before doing the same.
They may not let us do this, maybe wanting to release cars from the pits with timed gaps for H&S though?
If they won\'t let us do that, we could, on seeing the chequered flag, get the first car to slow right down to form up into a stagger around the circuit on the last lap. We\'d need to slow down for cooling anyway.......;)
Is that the sort of thing you had in mind?
Anyone done anything like this before?

Slowing on the last lap would be teh best bet, they will likely do a staggered release from the pit
Malcolm,
Yes that\'s the idea I had in mind.
Happy to fall in line with whatever suits everyone...its just essential everyone \'on track\' understands whats going to happen on the day, (from a self preservation H&S perspective), LOL
Chris

don\'t make it too complicated im a novice!, think last would be my best start for first time lol
They release you from the pitlane in sequence at the start. If you want to get a formation shot then I reckon the best thing would be to slow right down at the end of the session and get your photographers at the first chicane, everyone will be going nice and slowly and there will be plenty of opportunity to get good shots. Also, slowing down on the last lap will get all the water and oil temperatures down nicely, particularly useful for the RX7 boys who will have turbos and all sorts to worry about as well.
Looks like forming up on the cooling lap is going to be the best option then. I\'ll need to check with the Japfest briefers that this is OK and ensure everyone knows on the day what we are doing and how!
BTW, my tracktime "briefing pack" arrived in the post this morning. Better late than never!
I got my tickets, passes and tracktime tickets this morning.
What time are people getting to the club stand???
You will need to be at the stand approx by 8.30 -8.45 briefing is at 9.10am
What time would we need to get to the gate ? Will it be very busy early doors ?
Shaun
It may well be busy on the roads around the venue. I\'m aiming to get to Gate A by 8am, to allow some time for queuing! It may also be worth finding a route that avoids taking you past the other Gates (B & C) otherwise you could get caught in 3 queues! I\'ve used Google Earth to find a (hopefully) quieter route to Gate A from the southerly direction.
Are you staying in a hotel ?? I\'m stopping in the Bell House just up the road !
Shaun
^^ I got a cheap(ish) hotel just off the M4 in Swindon, so only one junction away on the M4. I\'ll be setting off from there about 7am I reckon.
Just a reminder to everyone - DON\'T FORGET TO TAKE YOUR DRIVING LICENSE TO JAPFEST - both parts if you have them.
Please make sure that you display the Club stand pass in your window and NOT the Track Pass that was enclosed in your track pack, otherwise you will get directed straight to the track and not to the club stand.
Please try and arrive at the club stand for 8.30-8.45 as you will all need to get down to the briefing session for 9.10am.
Make sure you have also completed and signed the enclosed documents in the pack prior to arriving.
Have fun out there :3gears-lh:3gears-lh:3gears-lh:3gears-lh
^^^ Wot Lisa said, and for anyone who hasn\'t been to Japfest before, beware there can be massive queues for the Gates - allow plenty of time!

i\'m staying over at a local animal shelter, eh sorry Travel lodge, likewise I am aiming to get there for 8ish
BTW Casey, care to share your route?
I\'m setting off in a minute, got my 595RSR on the front so the drive down will bed them in ! Just checking I have everything :Giggle
