first off, hello, as this is only my 2nd post.
I have just bought a nonstarting fd, a bit of history on it is that it was a friends car, he bought it 3 yrs ago, it had just had the seals done and needed to be run in?
he drove it carefully for a 1000miles or so, no trouble at all, then his circumstances changed so the car got put in a garage. it has stood there for 2 years, last started 9months ago with no trouble, just lots of white smoke. we tried starting it today, used new battery, but it wont fire up. car is totaly standard.
now questions, :Thumbs-up
the obvious, why wont it start?
i thought probably spark plugs, ive tried searching for a guide, help to change them and what spark plugs to go for with no luck. anyone help here?
with car being stood for so long, what could go wrong?
what would you recommend i do first?, i am going to change all oils, yet to search for best oils to use. but what else?
lastly, im in south wales, does anyone know the nearest rx specialist?
sorry for the long winded post, i think i covered everything,
ta :burnout
Possibly Flooded?
Did you try new fuel or left old stuff in
there was no fuel in it we didnt think, topped it up with just £8 pounds worth.
would it flood on its own? if we flooded it will it settle now on its own, it sounded so close to starting, it just didnt have the final guts in it.
Are the spark plugs wet? do you have a spark? if it had no fuel you could have picked up sediment from the bottom of the tank and blocked the injectors? try with the basics first. Spark or fuel id start with.

I\'m based in South Wales and am near to Blackwood, i\'m quite happy to help you out if you are local to me? I\'m not back at my shop until Monday as i\'ve promised the mrs all my time this weekend but you are welcome to call me on Sunday evening or anytime Monday on 07810 098199 and i\'ll see if i can help you out :Thumbs-up. I\'ve got my own compression tester, 4 poster ramp etc, just bring bacon rolls and you\'d be welcome :chat
Dave.
Could have sucked all the gunk in the tank and blocked the filter up too.
How much did you turn over to try and start. If you completely depress the accelerator pedal it shuts the fuel off. Sometimes helps to dry the chambers out. Depends just how flooded it is !
Is the car standard or modified ?
thanks rx-dave, pm coming your way.
we tried turning it over about 10 times for 7 - 8 seconds or so, but did not fully depress the pedal, did not kow that about rex at the time. we probably flooded now. the car is still at the the friends garage and hes out so cant get to it till monday now to try anything.

with a bit of luck maybe i could get it straight to you. i will give you a ring sunday evening mate. see if we can sort something out. thanks for the offer and help. really appreciated as im ....ting myself buyin a nonstarting fd :Hammer ive owned nissans for the past 5years or so, so this is all new to me.

Try putting a bit more fuel in too, 8 quid is only about 5lt, not very much to mix with the old stuff.
Shaun
ok will do thanks. is there anywhere on the site, there are traders where i could get fuel filters, sparkplugs etc.
im not having much joy navigating the site
Dragon is doing a great value service pack atm also //www.sparkplugs.com
thanks, who is dragon a member on here or a trader?
Not sure if he is on here for whatever reason but he is a well known rotary tuner. He is deffo active on fduk and has his own company site.
i have tried registering on fduk.org but its now working, seems like it hasnt been active since 2008
It working fine mate ive just been on.
You must be doing something wrong mate
its just that ive registered but not had any activation or confirmation emails from them, cant view any posts, and the main page seems to show 2008 as the last date.
On the main page just click the forum link
yeh tried tha, not allowed to view it
just a thought if it was nearly catching but not quite could be low on juice and like you said prob flooded now. one of the best ways to start a rex if you dont have the juice is a tow start. it turns the engine that bit quicker makes starting a little easier.
where is the usual place to tow from on the rex, i dont want to remove the bumper, dont want to rip it off towing either, theres no tow eye is there?
just thought i would get this thread back on track, lots of replies i know, thanks. just thought someone else could have a suggestion to

1st thing to do have someone tow you till the car starts and give it a good run.
best way before poking around is to have someone tow you while your in 3rd gear at 30mph with ignition on if you think its flooded. after half a mile or so it should get going no matter how much fuel is in there.
1. Are the plugs wet after cranking? If yes it\'s more than likely flooded. Do a search on a deflooding procedure. If the plugs are dry then:
2. Check you got fuel to the rails. Pull off the fuel feed or return and crank the engine over. If you got fuel to the rail then:
3. Check for spark. Long screwdriver in a leading (lower) plug lead and earth it to the throttle body and look for spark on cranking.
Try those first and let us know the results

:Thumbsup! will try, car is stuck in a tight garage at the moment, hard to be able to get anywhere under it.
thanks
Plugs:NGK BUR9EQP all round about 30-40 quid
If flooded and very likely by what you are saying then take the guys advice and tow the ......
Oil:Halfords cheapo mineral oil, orange container, about £15 a gallon
thanks mate
Happy to assist mate, i searched all this ssh!t a few year back
;-) ...
i have been searching but with not much luck, rx dave is going to have a quick look over it for me this week hopefully, i just ordered spark plugs and fuel filter from mazda rotary parts, hopefully will be next day delivery and i will get them tuesday. and then just fingers crossed its only flooded, as its been stood a long time and im worried seals may have perished.
is that cheapo halfords oil recomended, i dont want to be messing about with oil in this. i was planning on payin top wack for oil
Hi mate
pay top whck on royal purple rotary oiletc if it makes you feel better but 4 years back i waa advised by the builder to use halffords cheapo mineral and have done every 3k since without issue. Many many other do the same although many other pay fo expensive oil. The choice is yours dude.
i wouldnt pay over the odds for the sake of it, i just thought that you would have to, if im changing the oil every 6months or 3k, then i would prefer not paying £50+ everytime. thanks for the advice mate
Again happy to help mate,
Neil
Just for reference, the search facility on the forum doesn\'t work great since some updates were done a while ago. To search the forum, open up Google and type in site:mazdarotaryclub.com(space)(whatever you\'re searching for) and it will come up with some good search results.
thanks mate, i thought i wasnt having much luck with search

i couldn\'t recomend their products more though for the diff and gearbox oil, it gave me an instant 15 bhp atw more after changing to it, some may say that was just due to the fact that i changed the oil though, i believe it was the royal purple oil
