Title: AST switch
Post by: Kenji on February 21, 2011, 12:55:50 PM
Just received my Pettit Racing AST from the States.

Is it an easy switch to exchange the Pettit for the stock AST, and is it necessary to bleed the coolant system after the switch?

And if I want to fit an aftermarket water temp gauge, where do I place the sensor?

dead easy :) if it\'s anything like my WGT one you pull the hoses off the old one, catch the coolant inside in a bucket (or let it drain somewhere) then plug the hoses into the new AST. you\'ll probably only need to top up with 250-500ml of coolant, so no real need to bleed the system.

easiest place to put a water temp sender is in the radiator top hose using a metal adaptor, however the best place is to pull off the \'stat housing, drill it and tap it for 1/8 NPT.

And if I put it in the top radiator hose, do I need to bleed the system too, or is topping up enough?

As I understand bleeding the coolant system on a FD is b*tch of a job?
