Title: what will i get for my money?
Post by: Von Ryan on June 06, 2004, 06:47:50 PM
Looking for some help guys, hopefully some of the imports here on site can shed some light on this.

For 7-8 grand, what kind of 3rd gen rx-7 can i get for my money?

I\'m looking to get one as close to standard as poss (definate not engine mods or bodykit mods) and obviously with as low as miles as possible.

I can\'t realy stretch further for the budget as my bank loan will be covering my 1st years insurance and also included in the loan amount is money for engine rebuild  (keeping it aside from the start so i know i\'ve got it)

cheers Ryan.

although if he\'s saying he\'s got 3k ontop of the budget than can getr a later one with recent rebuild or erm a feisty early one less rebuild but with good miles.
Are you looking to avoid mods for insurance reasons i guess?

Yeah, the engine mods would cripple my insurance.

I\'ve got about 13-15 grand to play with.

I was thinking 8(ish)k for the car, 2k for rebuild, 1.5 for insurance
and 1.5 for wheels/tyres or tv screen head unit, or cosmetics like different front lights

I was hoping to be able to run a car for about 2 years before i have to get a rebuild.

If i was to get one just after rebuild, it would need to be a very reputable company. I don\'t want to have to shell out after just getting the car.

Mods i\'d look to do would prob just be , c-west lights and alloys (maybe later bonnet and spoiler)

You\'d be better off not borrowing the extra £2k for the rebuild as you\'re paying interest on it.  If you can borrow £15k then borrowing £13k now and £2k if the worst happens will save you money.   For 13k you should be able to get something pretty excellent, possibly already rebuilt and definately low mileage.

Contact Brian @ Rotary Imports or Miguel @ New Era and they\'ll be able to give you a good idea of what\'s available for import in that range or look on the for sale section here as there are usually a few cars going.

In fact, i reckon the 1st mod that i would do apart from the lights is the lambo doors, in the pictures at Dragon motorsport the white car looks tremendous with the doors like that.

8k would get you a early model 92-93 with with average mileage say around 35,000 miles in good nick. 8k would probabaly get you a high mileage rx7 that has had a rebuild.

..looking at your budget, and the fact your looking for a near standard car, you might wanna have a look at Jimmys RX7...you might need to email them though, as i don\'t reckon the stocklist has been updated recently (thats just a guess though). They tend to supply near standard cars, with full rebuild inc 12 month warranty......

Hope this is of use.
