For those of you that have taken your Rotary up onto the famous banking at Brooklands, I have just come across this link with regards to saving the banking.
http://www.bankingonbrooklands.org.uk/index.html
Do you think that we should buy a piece of the banking? Lowest price is £95.00, but we might just get sufficient donations to buy a piece, especially as many of you have had the privilege of having a photo taken of your Rotary on this track.
Let me know what you think and I can set this up in the club shop.
Hi Lisa,
I\'d be happy to contibute a modest amount to own a piece of Motor Racing History.
Chris
I am quite happy to put up £10 to get the ball rolling
Count me in :)
Im willing to also pop £10 in the pot
I will shortly add a Brooklands Banking donataion page on the Club shop and keep it running and then we can see what size peiece of the track we can buy.
I\'m in as well :)
(Will we be allowed to do burnouts on \'our\' bit? :Giggle)
95 sovs seems a bargain when you think they probably relive us of five times that much every year just to park on it for half an hour
Happy to give a donation too
Yep go on then count me in but i want my name in big letter writen on the track so i know where i can park for next time :p
Adam
Yep, I\'m happy to chip in too.
Up for that :wave
Well thats 9 people chipping in already :D
Adam
I\'m in as well.
does that mean if we buy some we can park for free and charge others for the priviledge? :wiggle:spank
Happy to donate. Will we get a certificate like those bits of the moon you can buy ;-)
If we keep going like this we will own the place outright and then we can use the track when we like:D
I\'m just a little curious, sceptical etc.
I understand that Brooklands has had new owners in the last couple of years and comments have been made regarding the attitute of this new regime.
If a piece of track is bought, by anyone, is it forever or would any contract cease were Brooklands to be sold off again?
I\'ve had a quick look at the web site, is there a contract somewhere on it regarding this?
I love Brooklands and think it\'s a good idea, however I suspect they may only be doing this as they need money and I\'m concerned as to how desperate they are.
I wouldn\'t like to invest in Brooklands to find them cease trading within a year.
It happens.................
John
I will try and find out the information
Brooklands is currently a Trust and as such is always struggling for funding. To my knowledge there has not been a change in the structuring of the Trust, but am aware that several bits of it are now being run by contracted business eg. catering and some of the function rooms.
Over the years they have had to sell off much of the original real estate to keep things running ie. Mercedes World, the business park adjacent, and going further back the ground that is occupied by the Supermarket (There is also an isolated bit of the banking here also.) and more.
I would imagine that if this idea brings them in much needed funding that they will \'sell\' off further sections as the need arises. Dwindling numbers of punters is probably the biggest issue for them and it is hard to see how they can get more of the general public through the gate.
Certainly they cannot afford new attractions, cars etc. as they struggle to maintain what they have, and any attempts to restore things such as the hyperbaric chamber are way beyond their means.
Perhaps Clive can add to this as I thought while we were there last year he said that the museum was under new ownership.
This being reflected in the more stringent H&S policy they have adopted.
John
O/K were going to abandon this cause as I can see it will cause arguments on here,
A quick search that anyone can do reveals Gallagher the fag people have taken over the site so I fear this is now far too contentious to pursue
Below is a snippet taken from their website

Gallaher is seen as a ‘good neighbour’ in the communities it borders of Byfleet and Weybridge. It is the ultimate freehold owner of the 30-acre home to Brooklands Museum.
It was handed to the Brooklands Museum Trust on a 99-year lease as part of a planning gain when Gallaher got permission to develop The Heightsts international HQ.

Hi Clive
There was no way I was trying to disrupt this idea or be the cause of any arguments and
I apologize if that\'s how it came across.
I just gets me when great big companies seem to \'pluck at the heart strings\' of good natured ppl when they should make sure what they own is properly funded.
John
Don\'t worry John, I had forgotten all about Gallagher\'s involvement with Brooklands and therefore all the implications that possibly go with, I was the one at fault,
Shame I thought that as MRC\'s first ever event was at Brooklands that this may be a nice idea, whoops!
Shame indeed. Still, glad to see the cat avatar back at last, Clive :D

How do you get moving Avatars? (apart from in a James Cameron film!)
Adam
Sorry Adam I don\'t know how to do this, Ann made it and sent it over to me years ago,
I\'m sure someone will be along to help,
You need a series of images, then some software which can combine them into an "animated .GIF" like (what used to be, probably now Corel) JASC Animation Shop and probably plenty of others out there...
