Hi guys
In the progress of rebuilding the FC, but I couldn\'t separate the tie rod from the steering rack easily:(. Read thru the Haynes and the Mazda workshop both didn\'t really mention how to do this correctly. There\'s a little screw on top but both 1.5 and 2 mm Allen key wouldn\'t fit it. Any advice on this please?:D
I would really apperciate the help :Thumbs-up
Cheers
Louis
They are usually on a tapper. You can buy a tool to split it but you can usually undo the nut a few turns then using a reasonable amount of force with a hammer, whack it on top to split it. Maybe give it a good soaking of WD40 or something first.
Thanks for the advice :) will give it a try this week
I seem to remember there being a split pin in the castle nut too. Mine were really tight so do give them a go with some WD40 the night before you do the job.
ade sounds like you\'re talking about the tie rod end join to the hub? And i think louis is talking about where the tie rod joins the rack?
For the tie rod ends, don\'t use a fork type separator unless you\'re replacing the tie rod end.
as for the rack end of things, i was under the impression it just screws off?
Oh yeah if thats the end your on about Louis it should just screw off. Depending which side your doing will depend on which way you turn it to come off. One is a left hand thread on is a regular right hand thread. Oh make sure you back the locking nut off the tie rod end first.
That\'s tricky with the different thread lol.
I\'m replacing the tie rod end with the Mazda trix steering angle kit and adding 6mm spacer to the rack. Hope things will go well :)
I think that Allan Key bit you mentioned is on the pin of the tie rod end. Its for holding it still when tightening the castle nut up. Otherwise it can rotate when your nipping it up.

oh no not the tie rod end bit. the tie rod end is loosen without problem:Thumbs-up, just need to push it out which seems pretty hard.
the pin I\'m talking about is on the steering rack which i thot is for holding the tie rod, but neither 1.5 or 2 allen key fit the hole on the top of that little pin. will give it some force when i work on it next time and see what happens :D
