Going to do a rebuild on a stock turbo.
The turbo is Hitachi but uses Garret internals.
The standard thrust bearing is 270 (I believe) but the 360\'s wont fit without a bit of machineing (but apparantley easy to do)
Been looking at the kits available and the difference in parts is confusing me somewhat as there is a big variety on whats included....

Hope the link works (ebay - T3 rebuild kit)
Does anyone know which option I would need ??? :3Confused:3Confused:3Confused
If I was to assume (and you know what them say about making assumptions!!) then there are 2 kits. From USA

What about these guys - any one used them ?

Always go for a trusted make on turbo kits or original if possible ie Garrett, you do get what you pay for these days.
Thanks for the info guys :) Nice exploded diagram on your link Prof which is usefull to see the parts and compare to the kits. :King
Genuine Garrett would be prefered then :)
Am i right in saying that the 360 thrust bearing is only worthwile if boost pressures are increased say past 0.8bar?
Also the Turbo II is a Hitachi HT18 as in your link Prof?
All the 360 does is increase the oil delivery and you will never see any performance gains on a standard turbo. Some say that by using the 360 you also need to restrict the oil flow as it can be too much, the HT18 has one built in but i do not know of anyone that has put a 360 in a standard HT18 but there\'s no reason not too. Although its called a 360 thrust bearing its just a piece of brass that directs oil flow in 360 deg and not I think 270 deg as in the HT18, its an important piece though as the rest of the compressor housing sits on this.
The HT18 uses T3 internals for the bearings etc, just make sure the thrust plate matches what you have as they all seem to differ dependent upon the manufacturer.

Thanks for the info there Pete. Undecided weather to 360 or 270 - the car will remain stock or as pretty dam stock as possable so I dont want to put in a 360 only to find it made things worse as regard to too much oil being flowed.
Just watching the Youtube video now.
Still learning :) ;)

Yep it\'s a HT18-S2 or S3 - there was a difference between S4 and S5 to do with an exhaust port sizes and wastegate (S4 one hole, S5 has two).
Lost of Info here in his turbo section:

Nice link thanks prof - UK car has an S4 turbo then or at least mine does! (1989)
Gonna be busy with youtube and fc3spro for a bit now! :D
let me know if you need spares as I have compressor wheels and bits and pieces knocking around somewhere. Might even have some bearings,i\'ll have a look later.
Thanks Pete (as always!)
I used these people last time

The time before the kit came from Japan and cost around £70
Infact that kit from japan was called Kamak
The kit from Gpop is really good and will have everything standard that you need, just depends on whether the shipping costs will deem it worthy or not.
My OEM turbo was rebuilt by universal turbos, it now has full 360 bearings :D
I mentioned this to a mate who runs a tuning company and he has told me to steer well clear as he says it wont be balanced and will poo itself and possably take out the engine too. I thought the beauty of these kits was that it wouldnt be unbalanced - Is he right or also talking poo? :Laugh

How much did that cost you in the end Mitch? (if you dont mind me asking)
Turbos spin at an alarming rate of RPM and although you can take a turbo apart and renew the bearings it is always advisable to get it balanced. When you take it apart you need to mark exactly the orientation of the turbine to compressor wheel and as long as it goes back exactly to those marks it should retain its balance. trouble is years of carbon and erosion of the turbine blades although to the eye is insignificant this may be enough to put it out of balance. personally i would rebuild the turbo yourself and just pay to get it balanced for that piece of mind. There are some people that send the spindle and compressor by itself and infact i have seen ready balanced spindles and compressors you can buy off the shelf ready for that DIY install. To get a turbo rebuilt professionally can cost anything from £200-£500 for the average turbo.
The rebuild kits will cost perhaps upwards of £70 for a decent well branded kit.
My turbo rebuild, 360 bearings, decoke, rebalance and wastegate porting was £450, it will be up for sale at some point as I have a *ahem* T88 *ahem* to fit :)
