Hey, my wipers have been running on the usual one speed for the past two years but this morning i was getting it ready for its mot when the wipers failed completely.
All i could hear was a faint clicking sound sound from one of the relay units even when a windscreen wiper mode wasnt selected.
I assumed the relay unit had completely failed so i went out and bought two used units off of tim at rx motors but it still wasnt working.
The plug which snaps into the realy unit is providing a decent voltage so i know its getting power...
Is there anything else in the system that could have failed that i can check before i hand it over to an auto electrician?? Thanks Adam
I had a switch fail where the contact pcb\'s in the actual switch mechanism that selects the various speeds were damaged, but if you\'ve tried other switches then this isn\'t the issue.
Could try the wiper motor itself - is that working ok?
There are 2 motor windings - one for fast, and one for slow, plus there\'s also a \'home\' switch which is used by the intermittent position (guarantees at least one full sweep).
The timer unit and home switch should only be working on the intermittent setting, which I believe also used the fast wiper winding on the motor. Then you\'ve slow continous mode and then fast continous mode.
Yeah im gona head out sat to see if the motor is working or not then go from there. Is there a possibility that it could be a bad earth somewhere? I assume the wiper motor earths out via the relay unit??

There is an earth wire to the switch unit, and the switch / relays ground out one or other of the motor windings. The live feed to the wiper motor comes via a 15A fuse - so worth checking that, but this also feeds the switch and the washer motor.
Live is on a Blue wire, the motor feeds are Blue / White and Blue / Red. A Blue / Yellow has the feedback from the home switch in the motor assembly, which is either ground or live depending on where the wiper is. Black on the motor and switch is ground.
Excellent, well thats given me a good idea of what im looking for now so maybee ill be able to get something sorted. Just cant believe it decides to do it half hour before the mot! typical :)
Ill update tomos evening let u know how i get on! cheers!
Well i managaed to get to the bottom of this and found out that a fuse had indeed blown but was hard to tell from a visual inspection, so i tested every fuse untill i found the little blighter!
Thanks for the help prof i owe u a beer when i get to a rotary meet!
