Does it start okay when the engine is hot?  IE you\'ve been for a drive, stopped for some petrol and then come to restart afterwards.  It should start fine then, if it doesn\'t then it may be compression test time.

Sorry to hear you have problems,

I would not expect this to be a coolant problem as RX-8\'s because it is very very rare to have coolant issues with these cars and not adding water ever is quite normal.

As Will above has suggested a compression check is now your way forward so you know the true health of your engine, then you can go from there.

If you have a Mazda dealer check your engines compression, make sure they carry out a compression check and NOT a diagnostic check as I have sent a few people for this and the dealer has decided off their own back to just do a diagnostic then charge £126 for the lack of information.

Hope this helps

In other words, £2.5 to 3K or so!  Unless you have a bash yourself.
