Title: Suitable inline fuel filters
Post by: imebgo on February 08, 2011, 09:35:30 AM
Can anyone recommend to me the placement/ type of f(inline?) fuel filters needed for this running the stock pump to a surge tank, into two inline 044.  I will be removing the stock one from under the car.

Thanks,
James

e.g - would putting a 10 micron fuel lab filter inline between the intank pump and the swirl pot be the right thing to do?

I run lift pump (with stock sock) straight to swirl pot.
Then I run swirl pot > 30 micron inline > HP pump > stock filter > rail.
30 micron protects the 044 from any chunks that may have maed it through. TBh I don\'t think you really need any mroe than this, or you\'re jsut adding an unneeded restriction. Both pumps are protected, and injectors are by the stock filter.

So if I wanted to get rid of the stock one under the car, It is better to have a filter before and after the inline pumps.

I want to get rid the stock filter because it dont like there it is, I dont really enjoy changing it. :)

I bolted my stock filter to the back of the subframe :)

The way I figure it you want a filter to protect a pump, and a filter to protect the injectors/engine.

Lift pump is usually protected from gunk by a sock on it.

HP pump could in theory suck up an gunk from the swirl pot that may get in there somehow, so filter before that is good (I didn\'t go for a super fine one, jsut enough to gt rid of rocks and small mammals)

Then a normal spec filter in line with the rail.

You can sort of see here:

Pre 044 filter is directly attached to the pump.

Filter is mounted above the pump, at to top of the picture.

Ok, this is my current thinking:

Stock Pump (With new wiring + relay missing the stock electrics) ->
30 Micron inline filter ->
4 Ltr Surge Tank ->
Dual 044 ->
(Inline Filters??) ->
Two of the stock hard lines (save me having to replace) -> into
1 line per rail ->
both lines back into FPR -> into ->
Remaining stock Hard line return ->
Surge Tank ->
Tank

I could combine the lines after the 044 and run a larger diameter line under the car in place of the hard lines, -8??

SIH - Our posts overlapped! Thanks for the info, im running two 044 tho, so, that would mean two filters before the pumps... ?

Is the pre filter the black attachment on the pump in that picture?

What manufacturer is it?

Thanks,

James
