Title: US Anti-Det Device
Post by: Robertio on June 04, 2004, 11:20:33 PM
Seen as this seems to be causing something approaching world war three on the US forum, figured it\'d be worth seeing what the UK experts think:

PG Unlimited Trail Plugs (http://www.pg-unlimited.com/index.asp?PageAction=Custom&ID=17)

Ignoring the price for what are fancy block-off plates, anyone over here tried running their 13B on just 2 plugs?

Looks like a simple thing to test the theory behind - Donato, you got any plans for that engine before it gets rebuilt? :D  Head to a set of rollers, disconnect the rear plugs, fit my PFC and see what the engine will take.

The NZ guys are ripping the shit out of these things just now...

Running just 2 plugs, also using no split works for some it would seem around the world.

didn\'t some of the early Mazda rotary engines run with part time trailing ignition ?

I am confused:confused:
In simple terms?

OK, nice and simple :

It\'s a very expensive bolt that goes in the hole where the trailing (top) spark plug would go.

More???

why are the NZ guys giving them a hard time?  I understand the principle, but should we buy them or not...??

The use of TrailPlug® may do the following:

* Increase combustion temperatures from leaner A/F ratio\'s, leading to apex seal damage, rotor face damage, turbo damage, and other heat susceptible damage.
* Increase tuning requirements for stand alone/piggy-back engine management systems.
* Although this product reduces the chances of octane induced detonation, it is not a 100% guarantee.

Apart from saving you £20 for 2 plugs what was the point of these things again

:D

In theory, you would surely be better just running with no split.

Without going into all of the why\'s and wherefore\'s........................

NO SPLIT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS ON TURBO ENGINES UNDER BOOST!DETONATION IS A CERTAINTY!

RX7Club (http://www.rx7club.com/)

Not sure if the thread exists anymore as it was locked to stop bickering until Jason runs some tests on it to provide unbiased data.

Carl, you\'ll have to forgive Bob, he\'s had his car back on the road for a couple of days now and it\'s obviously been too long for him ;) :D

The main reason for the hard time in the US was the 450USD retail price of the 2 bolts :D

Carl, if it works any reason why no-one (that has made it public knowledge) is running on just leading plugs in the UK?  Someone did suggest a setup which would run the trailing plugs off-boost, but not when on-boost which does seem the logical way of doing things?

Who say\'s it hasn\'t been tried?I have.

The bolts are probably better than plugs because they don\'t get hotspots that could cause preignition.
I guess that they are expensive because they are made of a type of metal that can disperse heat.
Kind regards
