Just seen a short programme on the pros and cons. I guess each will have their own opinion on how it suits them.
For me, i would be happy for it to go ahead, i am up when it is dark anyway so doesnt make much difference, but would be nice to go home in the light.
The same programme next week addresses the issues that Britain is starting to get a definite North/South divide and will it become a 2 state country in the near future.
I didn\'t see that-what would that entail?
Not changing the clocks!
Is that it?! I was hoping for something a little more complex than that like more clock changes. One a month should mix it up a bit.:Giggle
I personally wouldn\'t be bothered I don\'t think, although which time state would we stay in-winter or summer?

I agree, i hope it goes through ok.
I hate clock changing. For one, I\'m baffled by technology and find it hard changing the time on complex items like microwaves lol :o, and for another it\'s a real plsser if you happen to be on a night shift and end up working the same hour twice for free :2Mad
Errr fourthly anyone with small children will probably back me up on this, but it absolutely fduks them up and they rush in and bounce on your stomach at five in the morning for a month istead of seven :(. All so some poxy farmers can have an hour extra in the morning to water the sheep and straw the bales. Let \'em work in the dark, I say
At work I spend my time changing time zones frequently when at sea. We just get on with it, I do like getting the extra hour in bed in October though.
By all accounts its the Scots that are kicking off about it, their mornings are a bit darker due to being farther north. Hence the next series in the programme being about a big north/south divide.
So, in my opinion, the Scots can have a labour gov and keep the clock change :) Daylight saving bill and a two state Britain for the win!
Dont the Scottish want a complete break from England anyway?
Let them do it i say.................
..............dan runs for cover!
We did this in the 1970\'s, it was great. Permanent summer time. In my opinion we should have stayed on it.....but the lobby from farmers in the far north was too great.
I didn\'t understand that because farm animals don\'t look at their watches much. So life would have just continued on the farms as was.
On that show last night, there was a hotelier (cant remember where in the UK), who lead his life by BST time all year round.
Whinging Scot here right on cue!
In Aberdeen daylight is 8:30am to 3:30pm in winter and 3:30am to 10:30pm in summer.
The proposal is to adopt BST in winter and BST+1 in summer.
This would mean our new daylight would be 9:30am to 4:30pm in winter and 4:30am to 11:30pm in summer.
Obviously we\'ll fit in with whatever you decide is good for us!
Angus
Ah.....have we got this wrong then?
They are looking at BST in winter, and then in line with europe for summer?
So the changing of clocks will still happen?

No, you can still choose your own policies on things and how you want to do things different to central government! :Tongue1

I am led to believe it just stays as BST.
That means we loose GMT.
Quote from: Will66;738242That means we loose GMT.
Do we have gmt when we change the clocks anyway?

Thats what i thought
The Scots could stay in GMT+1 or Alpha time quite easily if they wanted to preserve daylight. It makes sense in England to retain it.
The ITV programme clearly stated the woman MP\'s proposal was for BST in winter and BST+1 in summer so clocks would still have to be changed.
By the way next week\'s programme is about the emerging north south divide with the line being at Manchester not the Scotland England border!
From the Bill itself
Cross-departmental analysis
(1)
The Secretary of State must conduct a cross-departmental analysis of the
potential costs and benefits of advancing time by one hour for all, or part of the year!
So looks like there is an option for either!
Whens the final vote for it?

Living in Lincolnshire you are in a right "dead zone" when it comes to North or South.
I would be interested to see where the cut off is.
Check out itv next week, cant remember the day, sorry buddy.

Anywhere north of the Watford Gap is North, simples :rollin
....actually, from here, anywhere north of Crawley is North and the people start to get a bit funny-looking and talk weird:rollin
(....except Leeds, of course, that\'s the only bright point up there)
Quote from: Dan Norton;738297Whens the final vote for it?
I think a three year trial is suggested, main opposition is from the Scots and in general farmers from Wales & South West. Which according to my good old mum is the reason it was introduced anyway.
I dont really understand why though, you still get the same hours of daylight and most farmers i know (1 or 2 granted) are up way before its light in the winter anyway.
Guess it just depends if you like light mornings or evenings. :Thumbs-up
7.30 tomorrow night ITV. :wave
Its like most things, once introduced you just learn to live with it :cheers
Good god, can you ever believe that silly fat w*nker Prescott had anything to do with the way this country was run!

It is genuinely and honestly a terrifying thought :( This is a man who quite clearly not only can\'t string a coherent sentence together but is in fact so unbelievably stupid he may actually already be dead, his IQ\'s that low
most politicians dont live in the real world, if you watch "Question time" as much as i do you will soon see that most ain\'t got a freakin clue !!!!
Tony Blair on the other hand was too smart and got everyone believing the hype
I loved it when he was asked about how more and more people are relocating further south to work, which he denied, the presenter then said, well thats what you did, to which he denied and then rebuffed by sayine, what did you want me to do, move houses of parliament up north! :rollin
Whole thing is a waste of parliamentary time, money and effort. Leave it as it is or just run GMT all year round. You aren\'t gaining or losing any bloody daylight anyway - if your job is best done in daylight, just change the time you start work.

Here, here, perhaps you could explain that to the farmers (mainly Scottish) who are the ones kicking off!
And your right, we arent gaining any more hours of daylight, however, i would prefer the hour of light at the end of the day rather than morning, summer months would still mean good light at 10+, rather than that hour at 4 in the morning when no one is up, apart from said farmers, posties etc
Would help Tourism industries as they could trade longer, perhaps making the UK a more popular destination!
I dont think its a waste if it benefits the countries revenue, as i certainly cant see it hurting it!
Or we could all just get up earlier? I\'m sure the posture and milkmen quite like working in daylight in the summer.
Quote from: Aubec;739550just change the time you start work.
Or as you said in your previous post, make up your mind! I cant really see tourists heading out at 4 -5 or even 6 oclock, but sure they would be more likely to stay out later!
Would love a summers evening, still light at 11, awesome!
If you dont like the idea, no problem, we are all entitled to an opinion, but dont try and justify it and then contradict yourself!
Never see a postie before midday round here.....and speaking as an underpaid overworked train driver (lol) if I have to go to work at half three in the sodding morning (and I do) I\'d probably prefer it if it was pitch black to at least match my mood :(
Same here, think our posties would benefit from lighter evenings!
