Title: Stripped interior?
Post by: Brighton-Rex on January 19, 2011, 09:10:46 PM
I am considering stripping out the interior of my FD to save some weight and also i will eventually be fitting a cage and harnesses etc.

Was wondering if some of you guys could post some pics of your stripped interiors so i can see how far you have gone to save a few lbs and what it might look like eventually.

Any inspiration greatly welcomed :D

Do you do alot of track day etc-stuff where you wear a crash helmet because if not I\'d advise against a rollcage.

See my thread - link in sig below. Lots of pics, but start near the end and work backwards in the thread. However, IMO, it can look scruffy unless you really tidy the standard loom that is revealed and clean up all the excess carpet glue that sticks to the body etc. Mine is a bit busy now with steering ECU etc but without those it can look very tidy.

Car will prob be tracked half a dozen times or so a year so a fair bit yeah.

Is that because of the extra weight or because of the fitment?

Just because of the mess a rollcage makes of your head if you\'re not wearing a lid that\'s all mate. (In an accident that is)

Oh! Well hadn\'t really considered that factor. Don\'t drive on the road that much as only a toy really but appreciate the tip. Gulp!

It is a bit of a safety issue with cages and normal seatbelts in roadcars, even with padding it\'ll be a massive thump.
Anyway, noticed you are a guest so probably can\'t get to see my thread so here are a couple of pertinent pictures of a stripper interior. One with just the basic electrics and also with the busier stuff for my steering ECR, etc.

Just something to bare in mind mate that\'s all not trying to be a killjoy. Weightwise I\'ve stripped a few cars and saved a fair bit-blimmin noisy though! If you do cage it I think the safest bet is to ensure you have the decent seats and harnesses installed as they obviously keep you buckled in tight whereas a normal belt lets you flail about everywhere.

I\'ll make it a bit easier, page 15 should show a bit more, and this is in there somewhere. There are the start what the car will when you first strip as well. All of mine was done at home, by me in a normal house garage so it\'s not been down the sprayers as a shell - I hand painted that flaming interior and cage with a fecking brush. And anyone who has seen my garage knows it\'s so narrow I can only open the doors half way before they touch the wall. I spent more time sat in the car working then out. I fitted the seat by threading it through the rear hatch and cage!
Anyway: T\'other side:
