can anyone tell me how to change the alternator belt for the turbo 2????please help???do i have to take all other belts off before i can change the alt belt because it is covered by other belt!!can anyone help???any step by step guide???
sam
On my 1989 FC, the alternator belt is the rear most one, so I\'d have to take off the fan, then the air pump belt, then the power steering belt, then finally the alt belt.
Martin.
so is there any precaution i need to take???like how to adjust the tension as i dont have any tensio0n tools or is there any???is this just a simply unbolt and bolt back on again???thx
sam
Hmm. I seem to have replied to you on two different threads! Anyway, here\'s what I said on the other one:-
No special tools needed, beyond a socket set. Just make sure you\'ve got the right sockets, eg: 10, 12, 13 and 14mm. A screwdriver to stop the fan turning while you undo the nuts, (can be quite tight.) Something to lever against the air pump to retension it. (Spanner or such-like.) If you go slowly and find you don\'t fancy going further you can always reverse out of the situation by undoing everything you\'ve done so far.
Or, if you\'re really unsure, take it to a garage.
Martin.
hahah so i will thx again on this thread too.......:D
No need to take the fan off - the alt belt (which is the smallest) will just fit round the fan if you take it one blade at a time. It\'s a bit fiddly, but it\'s easier than taking the fan off!
Sean
but still i have to take other belts off rite???
yep..... 15 min job tops
I\'m about to do the same job on the alt belt. My 87 has no PAS or A/C, so only has the fan and alt belts as far as I can see. It terms of tension, is there a specific level of "play"? I don\'t want to leave it too slack, but equally don\'t want to over tighten it. Cheers in advance, David.
when i fitted mine there is no specific tension but i do have to force the belt on the pulley so it wont be slack at all......
Cheers. Fitted the belt a few weeks back (as directed via various threads) and we seem to be motoring. David
Can anybody tell where is best (cheap) place to buy the belts?
I think mine is starting squeaking....
I bought mine in Bourne Road Garages Ltd (official Mazda dealer in Crayford, Kent - 01322 521595). If you are an MRC club member, you get 10% discount. The belt for my 87 EGi was £5.45. Not sure if I could have got it cheaper elsewhere (Halfords etc...), but it\'s an official part, was in stock and as I live close, was easy to pick up. Hope that helps. David.
