Title: Expert Advice Req\'d - T04R Map
Post by: paul3944 on January 09, 2011, 07:15:53 PM
I had my FD rebuilt with a mild streeport still on the standard twins. The FD was mapped for this setup.

I have slung the twins in the bin (2nd Turbo Problem) and fitted the below items-

T04R
HKS Racing Wastegate
Profec B
Blitz FMIC
Koyo Rad
KG Parts rail 1680cc Secondarys
FJO Injector driver
Supra TT Fuel pump
Datalogit and Innovate LM 1

I have lots of other bits on there but i will keep it short and relevant. I have changed the settings in the stock map to accommodate the 1680 Inj, missing fuel temp sensor and changed a few settings as reccomended in the Single Turbo manual tuning.

I have never tuned any engine before and would like some advice/input on my map and some hints would be appreciated.

As soon as the weather clears up I hope to do some tuning.

Regards,
Paul

are you planning on doing the mapping yourself or getting someone else to do it.

Also did you map it on twins?

firstly looking at that you have the rev limit set at 9krpm yet the map only goes to 8krpm, what rpm do you want to rev it to?

on setting 3, your oiler vs water temp, at 85c id probably up that up a little bit to 1.008 as any extra oil for your housings cant hurt(unless youve removed your OMP)

Id say your water temp correction for startup is a bit strong, but then again i dont know your engine, you can only adjust that from watching your wideband as the engine warms up.

on settings 4 the IGN VS AIRTEMP now since your running a FMIC you will never have inlet temps reaching 80c so you can adjust your scales to help.

Ie if under boost your normal inlet temp is say 33c, this means you can run full ignition, but it you know when it goes to say 45c then your taking a risk, you can back off the ignition 1-2* and if over 50c maybe take off 3* again it depends what your engine likes, but i would make use of that feature more.

obviously in regards of your fueling maps i cant comment without the wideband infront of me, ignition does look to bad, maybe run a little bit more split at the top end.

Im sure there are a few more guys on here(blitz for example) that can comment in a bit more detail than me

Aha a t04r map. Ill put it on my laptop and compare it to mine tomorrow, you have a very similar setup to me.

Though I don\'t claim to be an expert, if your using a boost controller to control boost set your boost level in settings 1 to 2.00 as this will stop boost cut as your standard map sensor will never see that high. Plus both your timing maps are a bit aggressive in my opinion.

Wow Paul that timing and split map is shockingly badly setup in the boost and upper rpm areas its all over the place, the fuel map looks like the base map with extra fuel stuck in the boost area. Personal opinion if you have not got a wideband to tune yourself it be cheaper to take it to Reworx,WGT,Jaydee,Dragon, dont risk your engine

Many thanks for all the constructive comments :)  I am glad I posted this before I started fiddling with engine.

Looks like I will have to do a bit more research on the settings and ignition map.

In the original post I mentioned that I have a Datalogit and a Innovate LM1(Wideband) so I will try and do the tuning myself.

Many thanks for all the input.

Paul

Paul,

Just comparing map as we have an very similar physical engine setup.

Our leading maps. I have 1 to 2 degrees less than you on average in p14 to p20 also as im ported/higher revving/higher power band my timing is more linear after peak hp. (personal choice)

A quick fix on your split is to change P15 to P20 all rows to around 12. I have a 15 split in row 20 and a 13 split in row 19 at the moment but i cant stop tinkering.

Maybe just retard a few cells in p15 to 20 by 1 degree and change your split to around 12-15 will make for a less pressure and heat generating boost area = longer lasting engine.

Even a 11 or 10 split P12 to P20 would make your map quite less agressive. hope thats a help. im definately no expert.

I have taken on aboard the comments and carried out a bit more research and I now have to admit the timing map was a load of crud (And this came from experts :Nono!)

I have redone the ignition split comparing Maps from RX7Club, Datalogit Forum and CewRX7 Yahoo group.

I have kept Zero\'s in nil boost areas and slowly increasing to 10\'s in the power range of the map.  In the bottom Left of the map I have slight gradual adustments coming out of boost (Please tell me if this is not needed, a lot of US maps have the same pattern?)

In my idle area I have kept the adjustments from the previous map as the engine idles OK.

Comments as usual much appreciated.

Remember, your never going to be in the bottom left of the map so the ones you have as 7 and 8 p12-20/ n01-n08 might as well be the same all across.
As your unfamiliar with the timing maps I would suggest going for a safer map in both leading and trailing (split), get it running safe whilst learning as you go, then later when you have a feel for it you could change them.
I dont know by how much you have changed your leading but I would have those 10\'s in the split to 12-15.
