Title: Does size matter?
Post by: mayesy on June 03, 2004, 12:58:06 PM
Hi Folks,

Another newbie here. Am really keen to to purchase my first FD but fairly new to the whole import bit etc. Have picked up loads of info from this forum which is useful, but the one thing I still have concerns about is head / leg room. I come in at about 6\'3" and was wondering if the FD has much room or is it more suited to a shorter driver? Obviously the best way to find out would be to sit in one, so am thinking about coming to a meet at some point, but any initial thoughts would be appreciated.

Many thanks,

Chris

I\'m 6\'2 and the seat could go back one click further and i have plenty of head room.

Thanks EvilDave, Sounds like I\'ll be able to squeeze in! Which is good news - I must have one! I look forward to joining the fold in the next few months.

Many thanks for the reply.

yeah the UK seats actually go all the way back to the rear ones i believe whereas the jap uns fall just short. As a 6"1 lanky legged fella i found my knees are a bit knocking on the steering wheel particularly with the standard wheel but with a smaller aftermarket one it\'s much better although heel toe braking is still a fair way off.
Chap off FDUK modified his seat rails so they go all the way back & i\'m planning on getting the bodyshop to do that to mine while they have it so will report back on how much better it is. You can also get UK sat rails which i guess is easier although they come in at a few hundred as i recall so not the cheapest method....
ANyway yes having a sit in is the only way to tell & as i say i was a bit gutted when i found it a bit compact having set my mind to get one but there are always ways to rectify such minor issues & there are many taller & bigger folks than me doing the RX7 thing with no complaints so dont be put off (http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/otn/realhappy/offwall.gif)

Good point. Where there\'s a will there\'s a way! Don\'t think I can be put off too easily. Just got to sort the cash and find the car. May look for a UK model to start with, but let us know how the rail mods go as it might be something to consider if i have to buy imported. Thanks for the advice folks, it helps to know there\'s people out there to help!

remember reading somewhere on here, you can get alternative rails which will lower the seat another 40mm and put it back a bit further. Think they were a mazda part?
