OK, a fresh New Year ahead beckons â€" maybe not the best of weather to totally enjoy our fine modes of transport just yet, but I’m looking forward to the spring and summer!
I will update this thread throughout the year with general plans, thoughts and discussion about the trackday calendar for 2011.
Once firm dates for specific events are finalised I will start a separate thread on each and post a link from here. So, if you are interested in the MRC Trackday Series in 2011, then subscribe to this thread and you won’t miss anything, as long as you check your email address in your profile is correct!These trackdays are open to all. If you’ve not done a trackday before, then help will be on hand (as much as you need). Even if you only want to come along to watch, take pictures, take some passenger rides or socialise with other rotary enthusiasts then you are welcome at any of the events.
I plan to organise
FIVE “official†MRC trackday events during 2011. I’m in the process of putting together the program, but current thoughts on the trackdays for this year are;
Definite tracks on the list;
- Cadwell Park (lovely track)
- Brands Hatch (a firm favourite)
- Snetterton 300 (newly restructured track layout this year)
Other contenders are;
- Oulton Park - another fine circuit
- Donnington - newly re-opened, only a few trackday dates released, but looking very expensive!
- Thruxton â€" high speed circuit
- Silverstone â€" a national treasure
(any thoughts on others?)
I’d welcome your thoughts on the additional two tracks to consider this year, via PM or this thread.If you have any questions about trackdays in general, then please post up on this thread, or send me a PM.
In addition to the above, I would like to know the level of interest in a potential “Rotary Only†session (15 mins on track) at Japfest, Castle Combe, on Saturday, May 14th. For this to work we have to “fill†a 20 car session. It would be fantastic to showboat our rotaries in an exclusive session to the massive crowds at Japfest. Cost is £35/car, but I’ve been in touch with Clive and the MRC will contribute towards this cost. Also a reminder that there is a large group of us going to a
full trackday at Brands Hatch on 31st January (weather permitting). This was originally scheduled for 4th December, but postponed due to the snow! The last time I checked all the places for 31st were taken, but anyone is most welcome to come along to watch, etc.
Well Casey if your talking about Stowe at Silverstone then as you already know i loved that circuit and would welcome an opertunity to get back there, fingers crossed they have some drifting sessions again and i fel more competent at the slideways stuff now.
Donnington are really strict on noise levels, the councils are complete numpties over it !
Been wondering about Rockingham, has anybody done that.
Definately want to do Cadwell and Oulton this year (at least once), still got 4 trackdays on the insurance to get in before July :Giggle

Depending on my finances at the time I hope to do Cadwell and Oulton. It gonna be an expencive year or two for me, but if I can I will drive them if not I will try to get to them to cheer/abuse the rest of you.
Also been asked if I could mention a track-day happening at Anglesey in May.

I did Rockingham in November and absolutely loved it. Twas a damp day and the surface is very very slippy, but still loved the day. Got better in the afternoon as it dried slightly.
Thats on my list to do this year (hopefully in the dry), as well as Cadwell.

OK, all you trackday enthusiasts; firstly, a big thank you from me to the growing band of members who are regularly supporting these events. It’s also really pleasing that we had some first timers at Brands Hatch a few weeks ago and it was clear that they all thoroughly enjoyed the day and will be back for more! First timers are very welcome; rest assured the regulars will give you all the support and advice you need, both prior to, and during the events themselves.
There will be five “officially supported†MRC Trackday Series dates in 2011. Full (paid up) club members will be entitled to a £20 contribution towards the costs of up to FOUR events. Tickets MUST be bought through the club shop to receive this discount, not direct from the Trackday Operators.
I will also be publicising the same events over on the RX8OC, and will let FDUK know what we are planning. As ever, ALL rotary cars are most welcome, member of any club or not.
So, after much consideration, and taking into account other car related events taking place throughout 2011, these are 4 of the trackdays (of 5) I will be arranging this year.

Some considerations that have lead to the above;
1. Lots of requests for Oulton to be “in the summerâ€, due to poor weather last year â€" done.
2. No event in August â€" we have Rotorstock, Japfest2 and many other events that month.
3. Donington would be great, but the prices are ridiculous; typically ~£400+, with 98dB limit.
4. Thruxton appear to only operate with a 90dB limit; far too restrictive!
I would like to include one more date in the calendar, either late April or October. October is more promising, as we have the Spring Rotor show on 23rd April, early April is “out†for me, and a lot a lot of people are going to a “Help for Heroes†Anglesey trackday on 8th April. Track dates for October are not fully released yet, so I may wait a little to see what comes up. Your inputs on sorting the “final†venues and dates would be most welcome. Some thoughts, based on inputs so far from people;
31st October, Monday, Bedford Autodrome, Full GT, 101dB, ~£125
Silverstone, national circuit, ~£200, date to be sorted.
Rockingham, ~£175, date to be sorted.
If you see any good October trackdays, either PM me or post up here.
In the meantime, get the dates in your diary, sort out your cars, and start saving up the pennies!

Cadwell and Oulton are a a definate for me. Very interested in Rockingham and possibly Silverstone.

I\'ll be in for Oulton and would be up for Brands if it wasn\'t at snow plough time lol, Car will be firmly tucked up for winter by then! Fancy Rockingham too if it gets sorted. I can\'t do less than 105dB though, its almost exactly 105 with a baffle and 112 without.

:Thumbs-up Look forward to seeing you at Oulton with that "beast" of yours! Still trying to see if Donnington in Oct is feasible - would you be interested? More importantly, they have a 98dB "drive by", so less onerous, but would that be a problem for your car?

Not sure on drive-by. Brands is 105 static and 92 drive by (depending what day its on it seems) I think and thats ok so it could be ok. Would love to do donnington.

Donnington are very strict. The council runs the measuring stations and. There is a static level too. I\'m not even sure mine would be quiet enough for Donnington on drive by.
I still need to setup my brake balance, just need to do some heavy braking on a quiet road ! I\'m now running 430bhp at the flywheel at 0.9bar and Pip says I can use it all the time :D Very much looking forward to Oulton on the 25th. Half considering Japfest too, will need to find out if I can get the night before off from bowling though !

That\'s more like what I heard, think Donnington is a no for me :( Glad your cars back and all sorted.
Yeah new ecu and dash is all in, was mapped up to 0.7bar for cadwell and made 420bhp. Its back on the dyno tomorrow to be mapped up to 1.0bar so should have it back this week. Am hoping someone will drop out of oulton next weds so I can pinch a slot :Giggle
Neil, I\'m in discussion with Nick Dougill about the noise limits at Donny. If they are too onerous and people don\'t think they can pass, we will pass on the event. We are all used to the "standard" 105dB limit and have to work to that. If the Donny limit works out less favourable then it\'s likely a no-no. I don\'t want to arrange any events which might prevent anyone who can meet the standard limit from attending, due to tighter restrictions in force.

Hi trackday enthusiasts - we have a new venue to add to our list of potential UK venues. New tarmac laid at Blyton Park a few weeks ago to create a brand new, purpose-built, trackday circuit. By that I mean it will not be used for competitive racing, so no need for masses of armco to potentially bend our cars!

^^^ Ade, the next one I\'ll be organising will be Brands in Dec. However, if anyone wants to use this thread to see if a group of people are interested in a specific trackday event (outside the MRC Trackday Series Calendar) then please go ahead and propose a date and track to see if there is interest in others joining in.
It takes me quite a bit of time to "manage" the 5 or so events in the MRC Calendar, but people are very welcome to use this area to publicise any additional events - just as long as I don\'t have to oganise them :Laugh
If an event gets some interest then start up a new thread and post a link from this one, as I do with the MRC "official" ones.
The only reason I was asking was
A) My brother is coming over from America in November. A trip we never thought was gonna happen. Last time he was here we said we\'d try and do a track day together next time.
B) I vaguely remember someone banding a date in Nov for a day at Oulton.
So I was hoping the dates would tie in together. Maybe I\'ll try and get to a random event. I\'ll keep you posted if I do.

Matt didn\'t have the best luck really. Split his mid-pipe silencer late morning (huge hole !) and went off to WGT to get it fixed. Came back in the afternoon, I had a ride, Pip took out for a blast then matt took somebody else out and 4th gear exploded ! Not good :(
I\'m not sure when my next trip will be tbh. My turbo is finally on the way and that will take the car out of action when it arrives.

Never ben able to get to Donny (so far) but a legendary track!
Blyton Park - Saturday 5th November - £99
We had 20+ rotary cars here in August and everyone I spoke to had a great time at this fun track. Great for 1st timers as it\'s not a "full-on" race circuit, but a purpose built handling circuit.
Snetterton 300 - Thursday 10th November - £109
Our recent outing to Snetterton showed us what a lovely circuit this is; now at 3 miles length and with a great combination of corners, it\'s a challenging and rewarding circuit to drive.

Well, Christmas is fast approaching and the last trackday event I\'ve organised via Mazdaontrack on 2nd Dec at Brands Hatch sold out weeks ago
Time to say a big thankyou to everyone who supported the events I organised for RX8OC and MRC members throughout this year. I\'ve enjoyed them immensely and I hope everyone else did too. A summary of this year\'s action;
