Clive and I think it would be fantastic if we could fill a 20 car, 15 minute, trackday session at Japfest this year. Cost for the session (per car) would be £20 to Full MRC (paid up) members, a reduction on the Japfest published price of £35. Non MRC Members can still go out, but the cost will be £30. Tickets will be available form the Club Shop later.
We think it would be great to have a 15 minute session exclusive to rotary powered cars to show off to the huge crowds that go along to Japfest each year. Trackday times and details haven’t been released yet by the Japfest organisers, but I will post up details as soon as they become available. These tracktime slots have been immensely popular in previous years, so we need to be prepared to book a slot very quickly when details are announced.
Please add your name to the list and use this thread if you have any questions.
So, who is up for a 15 minute blast at Japfest?

Good news Dave, and everyone else, on the price,
but this needs YOUR support!! Clive and I have been discussing this and have agreed that the MRC will block book AN ENTIRE session exclusively for rotaries. If we get 20 cars then the costing will be as follows;
£35 quoted cost on the Japfest website, reduced to;
£30 because the MRC is going to pay "up front", reduced to;
£20 because the MRC will contribute £10 towards the cost! (FULLY PAID UP MRC MEMBERS ONLY)
I have been speaking to the Japfest organisers directly and am awaiting the release of the track session booking forms. These were due today (Fri, 7th Jan) but have not materialised. As soon as they are available I\'ll be booking our exclusive session. Payment for your place will be via the club shop in due course.
So, who\'s up a track session in front of all the crowd at Japfest for just £20, can\'t say fairer that that!

Oh Come on guys this is a fantastic opportunity but we need numbers.
Tracktime booking form still not available from the Japfest organisers, but tracktime schedule has just been posted up today;
Session Time Level
C 09:36 Novice
D 09:54 Intermediate
F 10:30 Novice
J 11:42 Advanced
L 12:18 Intermediate
P 13:30 Advanced
R 14:06 Intermediate
S 14:24 Novice
V 15:18 Intermediate
W 15:36 Advanced
Y 16:12 Novice
Bearing in mind people might be arriving late for one reason or another, and we may have a mix of drivers with different experience I would propose we go with 12.18 (inter) or 14.06 (inter). To some extent, if we get the planned exclusive session, then I\'m not expecting the experience levels to be an issue, as we\'ll be aware of all the other people being on track to be of mixed experience and can take account of that (ie play nice!).
If anyone has any other views then please post up quick as I\'m expecting the booking forms to be issued very soon.
I\'ve had a quick sneak on other Jap Forums and just about ALL of them are waiting for the forms to book one, or even two, exclusive club tracktime sessions, so I\'m keeping a close watch to get in as quickly as I can! If anyone else spots anythign before I do then please PM me.
I\'ll post up here as soon as I have the booking form :D
Hmm... Does a "track session" constitute a "track day" (from which I am technically banned by Wifey)... I\'d love to, but think I\'d better not... :Nono! especially as there\'ll be a certain 5YO who\'s bound to tell Mummy! :3gears-lh
Quote from: seanp;736151Hmm... Does a "track session" constitute a "track day" (from which I am technically banned by Wifey)...
:D It depends if your latest RX-8 is fitted with an "armco-magnet" - the last one appeared to have one :D
Strictly speaking, the Japfest description is "track time". However, I\'d certainly recommend you clear it with Siobhan before you contemplate subterfuge! And yes, I\'m sure Joseph will rat on you, even if bribed with an ice-cream :Laugh
OK, these are the published track time rules for Japfest. Suggest everyone gives them a good read to make sure they have no problems before committing.

***URGENT***
OK, all of a sudden, the idea of tracktime at Japfest has gained a lot of interest, and is causing a slight dilemma for the MRC.
The original plan was for a "Rotary only" exlusive session, and I was quite confident we could fill the 20 places from members here and across on the RX8OC. However, the RX8OC have decided to book an exclusive RX-8 session, and offer it FREE to RX8OC members. That session is already fully allocated, but has "drained" away some people from the planned "All Rotary" session I had originally envisaged.
Some people, who are members of both the MRC and RX8OC (like me) will most likely go on both sessions, but there are some people (mostly the first timers) who have indicated they will only go on the RX8OC session. We may therefore now be short on numbers to fill a 2nd 20 slot session.
As the MRC has to pay a lump sum "up front" (IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS) to secure exclusive tracktime we need to ensure there will be sufficient takers.
I\'ve updated the list, removing the names of those on the free RX8OC session who have not (yet) indicated if they will do the "All Rotary" session.
WOULD ANYONE ELSE WHO WANTS TO JOIN IN THIS EXCLUSIVE SESSION PLEASE POST UP IN THIS THREAD ASAP.
If we don\'t get sufficient support by the time we have to pay Japfest we may have to wait for more take-up. Knowing how popular Japfest tracktime has been in previous years, this might jeopardise securing an exclusive session.
Many thanks for your support Clarky.
I\'ve added your name to the list above. Don\'t worry if you are a novice, they\'ll be a full briefing and we\'ll look after you on the day! Just make sure you don\'t fall foul of the 100dB noise limit, as they are quite strict at Combe!
Casey
BUMP! We still need more people to make this work.
If anyone reading this is active on other Rotary forums, then please promote this elsewhere. I\'ve emailed Mark Nash over at FDUK, but if anyone else is active on FDUK, then please feel free to post up this proposal over there.
This is NOT an MRC-only event, but an attempt to "showcase" Rotary Power through an EXCLUSIVE tracktime session at a premier event, in front of huge crowds, thousands of cameras and Jap Mag journalists.......
C\'mon, there must be more people who\'d like to do this at a ridiculously cheap cost!
:D You can add my name to the list, it sounds good to me.
^^^ Excellent Jim, thanks for your support :) - name added to list.

Thanks to those who have added their support - your names have been added to the list above. BUT we still need more names for this to work.
Just £20 for a track session of 15-18 minutes at Japfest (if you are a full MRC member - £30 if not, still a discount on the £35 advertised price).
C\'mon, let\'s have a great showing of FB, FC, FD and FE rotary power to the Japfest crowds and cameras (any other rotary powered car not listed is also most welcome!!)
Sorry guys im gonna have to pull out i dont think i\'ll be around
Rob, really sorry to hear you can\'t now do this, but thanks for letting us know.
I\'ve amended the list at the start of this thread with some extra names of people who\'ve been in touch, but we are still short of the 20 we need.
I\'m really surprised there aren\'t more people who want to have a go at a short track session at such a massive event at a very low cost - £30 for non-members, £20 for members.

OK folks, the booking forms were issued today by Japfest and I spoke to Lisa and agreed we\'d go ahead and book the session. I\'ll await confirmation from Japfest that we\'ve secured an exclusive session and post back on here.
I\'m hoping, with well over three months to go, we\'ll be able to fill the few remaining slots.
Many thanks for eveyone\'s support, and please cajole others who "might be on the brink" to sign up to fill the spaces!
c\'mon folks you know you want to
I am very surprised that we have not yet managed to fill all the slots already.
^^^ I think it may be too far away in time for most people to commit?
Also, Icewraithuk PM\'d me today to say his wife has reminded him that they have another commitment that weekend and he\'s had to withdraw. He was down for BOTH the RX8OC session and this one. He\'s gutted as he has been to Japfest for many years.
List amended......:(
So, we still need more people to join us for this exclusive track session........
If not we all pay a little more and get more space on track :p
Hi all,
Sorry for the late interest in this but work commitments mean I have very little time either in the UK, or to keep up with the club events.
I will be happy to join you on this track event (subject to being in the UK) LOL.
Let me know how much and when to pay.
Chris
Hi Chris, Good news :Thumbs-up
Just add your name to the list.
I am in the process of changing over Club Shop sites so will put the details up and price on the new shop which hopefully will go live in the next 7/10 days.
^^ :Thumbs-up I hope your commitments will allow you to make it, Chris.
Still waiting for Japfest to confirm the track slot time we have been allocated (but they\'ve taken our money!). Once that is received, places with be available for purchase through the club shop. I\'ll post up here as soon as I have more information.

HUGE BUMP
C\'mon, in order to secure a good discount the MRC has paid in advance for a COMPLETE, EXCLUSIVE, ROTARY only session at Japfest. Please show your support by taking one of the (very cheap) places. If we don\'t get your support we won\'t be doing this again!
This is a massive opportunity to show off your pride and joy to the thousands of people who go along to Japfest, and you can have a lot of fun on the circuit at the same time.

do we have any idea which slot we have yet?
Hi Alan
No, Japfest organisers for some reason cannot advise us yet. Malcolm has asked several times, cannot work out what the problem is:confused:
I will email them again to see if we can find out .
Quick question, re: passenger rides??
I assume they have to pay the £10 charge for this, but do we have to pay Japfest for this now (via their website) or can it be paid on the day??
I\'ve asked in previous years, never got an answer but I suspect they won\'t turn down cash on the day:cool
Re the track slot Japfest are truly rubbish at this, last year it was last minute and then they told us it was a very early slot.
RX8OC have just been advised of their track time!!!!!!
Any ideas on this one????????
:3gears-lh:god
It\'s over here (http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=69909&highlight=japfest) Mark the MRC are out at 10.12am so you should have time for the motor to cool down before you go out with the RX8OC gang :yes.
BUMPITY BUMP - 6 PLACES LEFT
Not long to go before Japfest now.

We have our tracktime confirmed as 10.12am, so that means you can go out and have some early fun and have a great adrenaline buzz for a few hours. It also gives you plenty of time to talk (to anyone who will listen :Giggle) about your time out there on the tarmac.

REIS INSURANCE
For those of us (a growing number!) insured with REIS and going on track, I have this morning received this reply to my query about using one of my 4 inclusive trackdays at Japfest;
"We cannot book Japfest as any of your inclusive track day covers as it does not fall under any track day criteria.
We have been asked this question each year and unfortunately have had to give the same response each year.
If yourself or any other of the club members wish, they can ring us on 0115 985 0165 and ask for the on event department who can look at quoting as a one off basis."
So, that\'s a disappointment. The reason I asked was I did note that Japfest didn\'t exactly meet the REIS criteria for trackdays.
I have enquired as to the cost of the "on event" one-off cover and, for me and my car, it works out at £70.37, that is for £9000 cover, £900 excess. In fact, I fall into the the "minimum premium" category for such an event :D I\'ve decided to go for it anyway, it\'s just a little more than the £50 "extra" trackday premuim that I\'m bound to invoke later this year......
Just been quoted £111.00 from Reis.......not bad i thought.
the secret is that as i am doing 2 x 20 min sessions they have done it as seperate rather than a half day or full day sesh.
Asked if there was a discount for club members but the computer said NO!!!!!
but at least i have it sorted.
Do I take it that we have to take our insurance docs and driving licence info to the event.?????
Cant wait:3gears-rh:cheers
Quote from: Speedy36;758805Do I take it that we have to take our insurance docs and driving licence info to the event.?????
Insurance is not compulsory, so no need to take it along to show to officials, but wise to take it in case of incident (hopefully not!). Yes, you MUST take your driving license along to present when "signing on".
Only ONE place left now....
