hi all, im brad, 21, from the midlands.
im currently looking for my first RX7, i have about £8 - £9K to spend, and i want one that\'s had a recent build, and already had some mods done, id like a powerful one, and a single turbo conversion, i dont fancy playing with the twin setup, and the major thing... there cant be any rust, as im currently upto my eyeballs in rust from my Nissan 200SX S13 build, i dont mind a little bit, as i know theyre getting on a few years now, but i dont want to buy a car that im going to have to strait away get up in the air and start chopping and welding.
i went to view one yesterday, and EVERYTHING was perfect, i was in love with the car, it has had its rebuild 750 miles ago, and it had everything done, GT40 single turbo, water meth injection, huge ally rad and inter cooler, as i said, i was in love with it, but then i found some rust bubbling on the passenger side of the boot lid, and when i opened the boot, there was water running from up inside the boot lid, then i got on my hands and knees and had a look at the sills and under body, and to my disappointment, i found the lip that joins the floor pan to the sills had been bashed flat, and there was a blistered area of rust and i poked it and it fell away from the under body, it was on the passenger side rear, and on the floor pan, that and all along the joining lip there was rust.
unfortunately, im going to have to pass on that one.
so id like to know where i should be specifically looking for rust spots when i go see some others, and what else should i be looking for?
id ideally like to borrow one of you and take you with me.
Quite simply there shouldn\'t be any rust on an imported Fd. Check the sills, chassis legs in the engine bay and rear arches. Also inside the sunroof if it has one. The bit you mentioned about water running down the inside of the boot happens on all fds. Sounds like you went to see the purple Fd on pistonheads. Didn\'t realise it had rust! That\'s not great given it\'s a 96!
im even thinking about having one imported, but i believe it cost a fair wack to get it to your door with all the import charges and what not.
yeah, that\'s the one i went to see, its an awesome machine, and i was very disappointed when i found the rust. the guy said it was imported in 1998, so its been here a fair while for the rot to set in.
so i got a rex where there\'s no rust present in the boot lid, how do i go about preventing it from talking hold in the future
Welcome to MRC..
Welcome to MRC,
Rust how you found it is unusual with an FD however this sounds more like a bad car that had damage that was also left untreated and bare meal on any car new or old is gooing to rust like mad,
Keep an eye on our for sale section and hopefully you will find a good known car this way or if you look above you will see one of our advertisers that may have what you want, Martin @ Speedline has been selling our guys so this is also maybe a direction for you,
Good luck out there, and happy new year :chat
nice one, im aiming for top condition, if not top spec, i want the latest possible, maybe look at importing one, try for a 2000 ish one with low mileage, but id ideally like one with a rebuild and a port job done, with the supporting mods, i want the most i can get for my 8K worth of car
Happy new year to you all, i hope that this year, with hopefully a solid car and my new job will be a good one, there also maybe a good lady on the way too if i push my luck :King
but it all starts with a new car :mmmm
A 2000 car with mods at £8k landed is a pretty impossible task, poor exchange rate, VAT at 20% from the 4th plus shipping, 10% import tax, customs clearance and dock fees.............the list goes on!! Then you\'ve got to UK legalise and do any repairs needed and yes they\'ll all need something!
I\'ve just brought in my last Rex for the forseeable after having 2 engines go quickly in my last batch of 6 cars and these were from a dealer i\'ve used for a few years. Much as i love RX7\'s they are a damn minefield when you can actually see & touch them let alone when they are thousands of miles away :2Confused
Dave.
thats the reason id like one from the uk thats had a rebuild, i can go and compression test it and see and touch is like you said.
how much of a car will i get for £8K if i go down the import route?

the one on ebay is the one i went to have a look at, but its rusty :(
@ DR SCHNITZEL, unfortunately, your car seems too focused, i need heaters and things, as its going to be my only car for a while, and its a bit too expensive for my budget, good luck with the sale anyways :)
iv been on jimmys rx7 website and found this http://jimmys-rx7.co.uk/for-sale-fd-rx-7.html
its well within the budget, and id have some pennies left over for some trick bits, are they a reputable company?
ideally id like one thats had a few bits already fitted, but there doesn\'t seem to be much choice out there at the moment :(
heres a nice one. with single tub already done......http://www.esperformance.co.uk/car_RX7-Twin-Turbo-\'Type-R\'--Mazda_114_0_index.php
and not a million miles away either
that one dose seem to tick all the box\'s, i think ill have a look into that one a bit more, its got the interior i want too, the colour isnt my first choice, i really like them in blue, or grey, but red is quite nice ounce its got a 99 spec rear spoiler on and i like the splitter to be black too, not a fan of colour coding.
Thanks for the heads up dude much appreciated :wave
yeah it does look a good. for a blue or grey, it would have to be a resprayed one. not many of them colours about.
buy that, and get it wrapped in what ever you want for 800 bucks :-)

You\'d need to be looking at cars around the £5k ish area in Japan to land it / legalise it for £8k as there are so many add ons :(. If you want any advice just give me a call or email as i\'m quite happy to talk you through things or point you in the right direction :cheers

Oh right
Or buy mine, all standard, rebuilt engine, then with money left over, get the work done yourself so you know exactly what\'s done
Hi fella , im sure we could do a deal on our orange rx7 if its you thing ??????
give us a call tomorrow and speak to dwayne .
cheers rich
I have a customer selling a 2000 model, stunning condition, not sure he\'ll drop as low as 8k though, think he wants 10k, he said he was going to put it on Ebay, or you can email me for his contact details if you want.
I also had a customer from Cyprus today saying he wants to sell his Spirit R for 40k! I told him it wont sell in the UK for that!
im afraid my dream of RX7 ownership had been firmly stomped out today!
when i phoned them up to confirm the loan that had been agreed 2 days ago, they\'ve since decided that in 2 days, i can all of a sudden not afford the repayments... maybe if they\'d think with their heads and not their wallets for ounce they would have some of their OWN money in their pockets and not MINE, that i so helpfully contributed to bailing them out!
i was going to view the 1999 blue single turbo car that\'s in the for sale section at the moment, but its all stopped!
im feeling slightly p!££ed off rite now, and a bit stupid for wasting the guys time
Thanks for the warm welcome though :wave
S**t happens and everything happens for a reason..........this is why i have never won the lottery as i\'d buy the biggest party boat i could and sail into Ibiza. I\'d then spend several years partying with Class A\'s and young birds before i die happy.........there you go, everything for a reason!!!!
