Title: Aftermarket OMP for remote reservoirs
Post by: 1972vsonic on January 01, 2011, 07:23:18 AM
Has anyone here used an aftermarket OMP that uses a remote 2 cycle oil tank? I am considering this option for my 13B boat motor, but would appreciate any input before I make a decision
Thanx.

rotary aviation sell the remote reservoir and adapter kits
//www.rotaryaviation.com/oil_injector_pump_adaptors.htm
and they work AOK as long as the oil is compatible with engine and you keep an eye on the level

if you have an s5 or onwards motor and your ECU doenst control the electronic oil metering pump
then you can use the 5V analog aux out,, or an external map sensor,, or the full range TPS
as the input to drive this EOMP stepper controller
//www.eomp.info
it can bias offset and also inverse the signal polarity for simple end user adjust
Title: electric vs mechanical OMP

Is there a distinct advantage to using the electric pump over the mechanical one? It would seem that it adds unneeded complexity for a marine application.

the mechanical one is fine for you especially if your motor is pre 1989
or is fitted with the earlier timing covers

1989 and onwards engines have the electronic pump and they amount to more lube when needed most
and less lube when not
and amount to significant savings in oil consumption if used with factory algorithms
aftermarket use the oil usage will depend on how well you have written a map for it
( if using the 5V aux analog out of aftermarket ECU\'s )
