Anyone up for a meet in Brighton?
I\'m thinking of either the last, or 2nd to last weekend in January :Thumbs-up
Should blow the cobwebs out! :3gears-lh
I\'d provisionally be interested in a meet, depending on shifts at work as always
Cool, I\'m sure we can persuade the Sussex massive to brave the wind and rain :Giggle
As we have have now done this for the last two years I had wondered about doing this again, when was last years date, anyone remember
28 Feb, Clive http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=62878 :Thumbs-up
My attending does slightly depend on whether She Who Must Be Obeyed has been delivered of our second child by then, of course. If she has, I probably won\'t be able to swing a day pass :o
Count me in!!!
Just to point out that late January would be very near the same weekend as the Xmas party :o
Looking forward to a good company, a social drive and squirting Clive with some ketchup again :rollin
Ian.
I should be able to make it :)
This means this your it will fall on the 27th of Feb :Thumbsup!
Would be interested, but can\'t it be in Feb! My FD has been asleep for the last month or so, wasn\'t planning on waking her for another month at least :( Winter is not good for my wheels and paint lol.
We can put it to a vote then if needs be? :)
Jan 2011 is good.. My 1 vote for Jan..
Regards
Syed
OK, I\'ll balance out the voting a bit....late Feb would almost certainly be better for me
February would be better for me and try and make my first rex meet.
Feb would suite me also if i can make it
Looks like February then? :)
I don\'t mind whenever....February seems so far away though
These people are not real rex heads, they should be moving work shifts! :Giggle
Sorry 27th Feb no good for me :(,as have the Gloucester Meet with the RX-8OC that day :)
Is this a Brighton meet or a run down from Guildford again?
Either way I would try and make it...either month is ok with me
Quote from: Big Al;735007Is this a Brighton meet or a run down from Guildford again?

Yes but hopefully we will all know which way we are going this time :rollin
BTW Andy and Terry (FD\'s) will be up for this no matter what the date.
:rollinThat made me chuckle Clive.
The original runs \'rotary bomb-burst\', with cars going in all directions, must have equalled anything the Red Arrows have ever done.
Looks like there will be cars heading down from:
Guildford
Worthing
Dartford
????
Several Mini-convoys all meeting up on the sea front should work? :)
Brett I drove up to Guildford from Worthing for the first run....it\'s a great route providing all drivers know where they are going. (We had a little problem there), but it was still more fun than driving directly from Worthing.
Maybe some mini-convoys to Guildford would do it??
That way we could all really pee off the jobsworth parking guy in the supermarket car-park, who got a little agitated last time :yes
which ever way you guys head towards...make sure someone gives me direction or tag me along...otherwise i will b lost...:(
this is my first meet of the year...last year my car was getting rebuild...so this time i m hoping to make it
regards
syed
Excellent and sadly true :Thumbs-up,
:rollin with cars going in all directions, must have equalled anything the Red Arrows have ever done:rollin
The locals must have thought it was a 500 car meet with similar cars on every road in the area going in every direction.
So hung up on details, like, man. All directions are the same direction in, like, a cosmic sorta way dudes, so chill :bandit. We all got where we were trying to didn\'t we? :Giggle
.....well, except for those who got lost and went home :rollin
Hi boys and girls:wave hope you all had a good xmas me and terry are up for it jan or feb it be good to see you all.Clive dont forget the extra tight t-shirt you hunk :cool
So, to confirm we are looking at Sunday the 27th of February for this meet up then?
:wave
27th is OK for me :Thumbs-up
if it is going to Febuary the 27, What time u r planning to schedule Brett??
Early to mid morning is usually best... Probably 10am?
I\'m open to persuasion!
I\'d be up for a trip along the coast to Brighton :)
ooh late Feb should work perfectly for me... will be good to have you along Syed its been a while since we last cought up.
:Thumbs-up 27th Feb looks good for me so I should be up for this.

I can understand your situation...

Hey Nik, if Jo can\'t make it, I\'ll give you a lift :) (although depending on how it goes, it might be in a v8 barge rather than a rotor...:( )

There definately was a map for the first Guildford to Brighton run.........not much good though as several drivers got lost on the way down, including me :Giggle
the "map" you speak of is more like a urban legend

Be good to see you join us what have you done to your 8 this time? noticed you\'ve been a bit quite of late.
:Nono! these are the maps produced for the first Brighton/ Guildford run. Not by me I hasten to add.
I\'m not sure why they havn\'t surfaced again this time. This run ended in Peacehaven and not in Brighton. Could be adapted I\'m sure ??
I think last time the run ended up on the seafriont under the arches near the Sealife centre?
If everyone is up for a fairly early meet then I may be able to provide some bacon and sausage based provisions :wave

I wouldn\'t be up for an early meet, it\'s a friends Birthday the night before! Best place is the car park at the end of Madeira Drive - we had this same convo on last years Brighton meet thread that I made!
In fact, it was the same persons Birthday last year that stopped me going!! Definitely not going to let that happen again! So please not too early :D

Hey Guys
Any objections to us over on FDUK joining you? If not I\'ll get a thread going and see if we can drum up some more support :Thumbs-up
I\'m going to do my damnedest to do my bit to make this a special year for us Rotary owners, in particular for a certain couple.

Is yours registered as a 1300cc? If so its only about a tenner for the month, so a fiver per day for those two - bargain :D

Thought I\'d bring a couple of Barbies as I know you like playing with those ;)
I thought you looked the type to have Barbies!
Just posting on FDUK as well; I\'m trying to get the route into Google Maps so I can output it to GPS/Satnavs.
I\'ve put start point as Guildford Cathedral; its simple to find and has space for cars. Sound good?
Endpoint is the Sea Life Centre in Brighton, at the start of Madeira Drive. On the big roundabout at the pier. Easiest to find point in the whole town.
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=GUILDFORD+CATHEDRAL,+Guildford&daddr=50.98785,-0.60902+to:50.94557,-0.56771+to:50.89454,-0.57507+to:50.87751,-0.30454+to:50.88605,-0.28244+to:50.91923,-0.2657+to:50.8240137,-0.1358201+to:Madeira+Dr&geocode=FbngDQMdIfv2_ylZFTwPwtB1SDGSNcgq0XQT4g%3BFUoDCgMdBLX2_ynDZMboSbZ1SDHwS5sxxoUREw%3BFSJeCQMdYlb3_ymlAxnAQrd1SDHhFhZnMa4OEw%3BFcyWCAMdojn3_ymXMcNjkrB1SDFwdjA5xoUREw%3BFUZUCAMdZFr7_ykDV19BGpd1SDEhfUM5xoUREw%3BFaJ1CAMduLD7_ynPSQWWKZd1SDGhNc2tLa4OEw%3BFT73CAMdHPL7_ym3ffEPUJF1SDExd82tLa4OEw%3BFU2DBwMddO39_ylhG10joIV1SDHQvN02xoUREw%3BFahmBwMdoCr-_w&hl=en&mra=dpe&mrcr=0&mrsp=7&sz=16&via=1,2,3,4,5,6,7&sll=50.823532,-0.135334&sspn=0.006384,0.019205&ie=UTF8&ll=50.827518,-0.135076&spn=0.408564,1.229095&t=h&z=10
Endpoint now changed to halfway along Madeira Drive, where it should be; link above should get you to Google Maps with the full route there. You can copy it out or play with the map to get more detail.
From there I can \'send\' to GPS/Satnav, and then choose Pioneer for my head unit. Tom tom is there as well, as is Garmin. I think you need a Google account to get this link/send ability. You don\'t need to create a GMAIL account or anything, you can use your normal email address, just register and sign in. Anyone else played with this? I am a newcomer to satnav really, I\'ve had it on phones and such but never a dedicated unit (or headunit, like mine)
Put it on the SD card that pushes into the head unit and the sat nav will do it. But it only seems to do the destination; I cant get it to push the entire route with waypoints. So its bloody useless really; it will just send me up the A3, round the M25 and down the M23. I dont need a satnav for that! Unless I choose every single junction and output them as well. Then I, in theory, can choose the endpoint on my satnav and then choose the other inbetween points as \'waypoints\'. All while sat in the car, swearing at the head unit. Not ideal. There must be an easier way than this.....
Sorry if I have missed this, but do we have a meeting point? Last time we meet up at Tesco\'s car park in Guildford for breakfast and stopped again on route for a cuppa where we picked up Nik.
Just wanted tomake sure we all know what we are doing and where we are meeting and at what time.

I put all that work in and you don\'t even read it ;)
I didnt know the start point as I didnt go to the last two, so I just made it the cathedral as its easy to find for all. Its near Tesco\'s isnt it?
Bury Hill appears to be the mid-point. Food and coffee there as well :)
But i dont know the time :(
Andy, the Cathedral is right by Tescos, yeah. IIRC we met at Tescos first time because there was a "do" on at the church. Something to do with God, I think...
So, either is probably as good as the other :Thumbs-up

Would like to be able to make this as i did sort out the first brighton run with Nik\'s help and it was a good day out. Just not sure my car will be running and holding water by then.
If theres no major service going on at the catheral then that would make a nice spot to start from as it has a long steep road leading up to it. As opposed to the tesco\'s car park with is just.... well a car park :o
Adam
.....and you can pretend you\'re starring in The Omen :rollin My car\'s all in bits and I\'ll be there, you big Jessie, so can you be :Nono!
Be there, not in bits, that is
Dammit, don\'t have a sat nav but I do have Scarlette:Thumbs-up So will probably end up somewhere in the New Forest, or Wales, or worse.
Papercup, does your route follow the first one as that was well thought out by Ada7 and Nik ??
Perhaps, there is another \'gentleman\' driver with a sat nav ( Nik kindly didn\'t call me an old woman :D ) Who we can follow ?
It\'s not as pretty, but judging from the way everyone was wolfing down their full english brekkie last year (me included I admit) I\'d say go for meeting at Tescos, Ashenden Road, Guildford, GU2 7UN.
Also, according to the cathedrals website they are having...
Sunday 27th February 2011 (http://www.guildford-cathedral.org/worship/services/2011-02-27)THE SECOND SUNDAY BEFORE LENT
- 8.00am
- Holy Communion (BCP 1662)
- 9.45am
- The Cathedral Eucharist with Holy Baptism (Order 1)
- 11.30am
- Mattins
........whatever the heck all that is, but think the cathedral might be busy with religious types who may not entirely have a sense of humour about missing their eucharist with holy baptism cause there are a load of noisy jap cars in their way!!
Has anyone said what time this is happening yet BTW?
Meet at tescos it works every year leve it alone :Hammer
Tescos.....oh, how vulgar :2eek. Don\'t they have a nice Waitrose anywhere nearby :Giggle?
U know Nik da...there isn\'t a Waitrose in Guildford......they are talkin about a Lidl though...oh it is just gettin so low brow around here!! :Giggle
I\'m gonna say a time so that it starts a looooooong discussion on what time and then once u\'ve all agreed we will know where we are!! :D
10am at Tescos?? (running away from the ensuing time debate!!) :yes

Adam
Hope you don\'t mind I\'ve chuched this up on the RX8OC site as well.
Ok as the posts over on the RX8OC site don\'t fall of as quickly as they do here found this from last year Brighton run.
QuoteWe are starting in Guildford at 10am in the big tesco\'s by the A3.
Post code GU2 7UN
So here\'s the route we\'ll be following...
•From Tesco\'s we\'ll join the A3 southbound (Portsmouth) to the Milford junction to join up with the A283 (Passed T.W.Whites )
•Then follow the A283 towards Petworth
•At Petworth continue along the A283 till we get to Fittleworth and the B2138
•South on the B2138 to the A29
•Following this up Bury Hill we will Stop at the rest spot by the roundabout for the A29, A284 and B2139 - chance to stretch your legs
We\'ll stop here for a while, have a chat and let anyone who\'s been left behind due to any traffic lights/junctions or whatever to catch up.
•After our short stop we\'ll take the B2139 off the roundabout towards Storrington and join the A283
•Along the A283 to Bramber and then onto the A2037 at Upper Beeding
•North on the A2037 till we get to the A281
•East on the A281 till we join up with the A23
•South on the A23 till the A27
•East on the A27 passed Brighton till the junction of the B2123 (Sussex University)
•Follow the B2123 south to the A259.
•East on the A259 to Peacehaven and the pub is on the main road
I can\'t appear to upload the tomtom route which we had last year which worked fine right up till we got into Brighton when everyone seemed to go their own way but we all ended up at the same palce in the end.
Think I had the same issue uploading the tomtom route last time so as before it\'s here (http://www.rx8ownersclub.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=99&t=36334) over on the RX8OC site.
Anyone goin to this from soutampton or surrounding areas? If so would anyone wanna join me on the drive to Guildford? It\'s my first ever rx7 meet so reli don\'t kno where I\'m goin?
Thanks
Sooo. I think I am following all this, is it
"We are starting in Guildford at 10am in the big tesco\'s by the A3.

"on the 27.02.11".

As I like to be organised :Giggle Just to confirm that we are meeting at the Tesco car park in Guildford for 9.30am leaving at 10.00am (don\'t forget customers start coming in at 10.00am)
Also do we have a postcode for the half way stop car park where we stopped for a cuppa?
Is it going to be the same route down as last time?
Some of us will need to get our satnavs set up so we can find new and interesting ways of getting lost :Giggle
Ian.
Looking forward to this, we will be in the misses Fd though (still to cold and dirty out for mine)

Did that work? If it worked, it\'s just off this roundabout, Lisa :D. If it didn\'t work, it\'s still just off that roundabout, only you can\'t see it cos the link malfed up :o
Yayyy! It worked! I rule at puters :Giggle

What is the name of the half way place that we are aiming for?
Are we setting off at 10.00 from Tesco\'s car park in Guildford?
Whiteways, Lisa :Thumbs-up
We will be at Tesco\'s around 9.30, LIsa.

Just to confirm, this route goes the southwick tunnel? If so I might go on ahead and get setup with a video camera...
i am coming too (hopefully) but will see you there, since i\'m going cross-country westwards!
Hey AshC,
I can join you at Canterbury tomorrow morning. What time?
Looking forward to this now :D See you all tomorrow :cool

yep no probs, just realised my memberships run out so i can\'t PM you - email me your mobile num to ashley.cooper_at_zen.co.uk, i will pick it up on my phone. Probably for you, coming from ramsgate, might be best to meet at the shell garage in faversham rather than coming into canterbury, a quick diversion off the a299 thanet way? Perhaps 8.20-8.30 am. Aiming to meet charlie P at detling at 9-9.15, and go cross country rather than the convoy. Let me know either way.

I can\'t believe I\'ve missed these threads on TWO forums!... Had planned on being at Circuits for 10 and washing car(s) in afternoon if weather good...
Let\'s see what time I wake up and how I feel...
I\'ll be there defying all odds to get the car back on te road in time for this weekends car events lol
I can\'t wait
Arnie, You seem to have taken a photo of your car in front a concrete pile of s**t.
Lookig forward to the pics of the meet.
A bit late posting up, but I won\'t be able to make it - have a good time all!
Ian.
Already sent a text to Clive, but sadly I will not be there today. Was on my way to guildford, doing about 70 on the a24 near buckbarn when the rear suspension sheared... Nearly came to nasty end :(
R we puttin pictures inthis thread?
Please do :)

Sorry you could not make Brett, hope you and the car are ok! Shame you missed a good drive down to Brighton, weather was perfect for it :cool
(Clive here to add to Lisa\'s post that I\'m pleased your O/K Brett)
Just started another thread with picture so feel free to add to that :D
Was a great day out and a lovely drive in the sun, just a shame the weather had to change once we got to Brighton. Sorry to hear about your accident Brett, hope you\'re ok
Hope to do this again soon... maybe in the summer so we can all lark about on the pier :rollin
Adam
Cheers guys, managed to avoid hitting anything - I knew there was a good reason to leave early! Dug a good 30ft groove in the grass at the central reservation, but got it back on the black stuff just as it started to feel like a barrel roll was imminent... pics of the offending part going up in Who Wins soon.
Glas you all had a good time - weather was nice this morning too :D
Wow, what a great bunch of people you all are and great to be with on a glorious sunny Sunday morning just enjoying each others cars, especially good to see so many new people as well,
If this first meet was anything to go by, it\'s going to be a great Rotary season this year :chat:chat
Yeah, excellent day out, as always. What a turnout, only a shame we all scattered to the four winds when we got to Brighton and hardly saw anyone after that.
Just like to add thanks to everyone who totally failed to stop and help two damsels in distress (and me) when Ralph finally brewed up and copped a strop on Madeira Drive, thanks for the push you bunch of ****s hahaha :p
I got to drive a blisteringly fast v8 FD (very slowly) and a totally anarchic bridged RX4 today, so I\'ve had a fduking top day out and experienced both ends of the lunacy spectrum. Thanks to everyone for being lovely, and especially to Jo and Andy for letting me play with their best toys :D
I\'ll bung my pics up on Ada\'s thread since this ones already seven pages of random lol

Whoops, I thought you had just stopped to film the cars coming in and Jojo\'s RX-4 had its customary sip of water:o,
Jojo, you must have a word with Ralph, you must stop him keep crying wolf :2Confused.
Seriously, whip the rad out and you must have a radiator repair company in the area that will find that pin-prick hole by pressurising it and then mend it with a dob of weld for only something like 10 to 20 pounds,
Failing that take the grill out find and mark the hole with a marker pen, drain the water out below the hole and plod it up with some plastic metal.
Put the grill back in and nobody will ever know.
Hope this helps
As Clive has said, we thought you were just filming us all going in to the place when we drove by. Soz
Adam
Well that was a great day & what a turn out of New Members :cool
A MPS & 2 RX-8\'s stopped along side Jo & Nik,but you didn\'t say you were in trouble :(,we could of sent the cavery :evillaugh
Sorry that Jim.E,RX8head & GreySilver Beast left you all too it,but we went to the Badgers Pub down the road near Peacehaven :) We each had a nice Roast Lunch & some nice Desserts :)
A pity it turned out to be a wet day in the end & look forward to doing another one of these, when it is warmer :driving
Awesome day, great fun and what a way to run in a new engine.
Thanks to Clive and Lisa for waiting for me at clacket lane on the way there in the morning and for those that drive slowly and considerately while i was trying to keep up with only 4\'000RPM to play with.
Had a great day and would look forward to a return trip in the summer.
Thanks goes to all those that "organized" this and the numbers seem to be getting ever more each time.
What a brilliant day, such a good turn out too!
:o Sorry to the RX4 girls and guy I was one of the two 8s that stopped with Nigel in his shopping trolley if I\'d know you were having issues I\'d have help with my limited skills which probable would have been limited to telling Clive or someone else you need a hand or helping push it.
I had a great run even if by following two different black 7s I started off each bit going the wrong way .
It was nice following the two black sevens and the lotus through the southwick tunnel athough it did mean I did get to hear my borla zorst in the tunnel as it was drown out by the zorst on the 7s :Hammer.

Sorry mate that would of been me in one of the 7\'s. Yours looked very nice in the rear view mirror! :) shame u got caught up at the traffic lights in the middle of Brighton lol :burnout
So what was the turn out in the end? :wave
Ha...Ralphy always spits his dummy out just as we\'re getting to where ever we\'re going......he just has to cool down again and then he restarts....no need for apologies-was all uphill to the car park from where we\'d stopped so would\'ve been a hell of a job to push!
Thanks Clive.....will get the rad off and fixed asap.....think he\'s still gonna overheat though even once that\'s fixed-dunno what else I can do to cool him down :3Confused
Had a lovely day out....great cars and great company and even a bit of sunshine thrown in-what better way is there to spend a Sunday :D
wot no pics so far? Just a few I took on my phone.
Thanks for letting us join the run
Keith
