Title: anti freeze.... anything in it that would afect metalwork?
Post by: Jono FD3 on December 26, 2010, 12:02:17 AM
Like the title says guys, is there anything in anti freeze that will afect the paint or metal work on a car body?
reason I ask is I\'m getting a little peed off buying de icer as it only lasts a few days and you don\'t get much out of a can...... so what I was thinking is, if anti freeze doesn\'t afect the paint I was going to put some in a little squirty bottle & use than instead.... would need less of it and it also works out alot cheeper too!!

As far as I can remember Anti Freeze will potentially harm paint work if left undiluted also I think you will find that engine anti freeze wont shift ice like deicer any way as they are completely different chemicals,

News paper on the screen instead ???

Hope this helps and Happy Christmas :Santa:Santa

heres a tip all de icers and such have chemicals in that rott rubber so even if your paint work stays ok the wind screen seals and wipers suffer.
no need for de icer just simply luke warm water yes luke not hot or close to hot as the glass will shatter little jug full of luke warm water over the window quick wipe of the wipers clear window . saves money no fuss
you can experiment with the tempurature but do not ! use hot

Get antifreeze on your glass and you won\'t be going anywhere fast as it\'s as greasy as hell!!  You\'ll then need to wash your glass and then you\'re back to where you started with frozen glass :Hammer

agree with you here except. i use jug of cold water first. cold water is about 8>9 degrees which is still warm enough to heat up the screen from minus whatever temp . then when you pour mildly warm water over the screen doesnt have shock.

reason i do this is luke warm water is still 30 to 40ish degree ( if it feels warm to your hand its over 37 degree) and if its minus 10 outside thats a shock increase of upto 50 degrees. still potential smash..

so do cold water first dude:chat

Yes, it will lift the paint. I think there\'s warnings on most bottles of antifreeze not to get it anywhere on the bodywork.

ok depends on what you\'d call luke warm and cold i wasnt going to start getting anal and quoting temperatures but !
i have used warm water and never had a problem but i dont want to be the one responsable for somebody doing it with warm and then having a wet dash board:evillaugh
