Title: Help on a new battery
Post by: zizther on December 16, 2010, 05:40:05 PM
Hi,

I need to get a new battery for my 94\' FD.
I was wondering if amy one could point out which ones are good from experience.

I\'ve heard the higher the cranking power the better it is with regards to RX7\'s.
I have had a look around and compared a few, but just wondering if there is a make that is best.

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for the help! I did have a look on Halfords site before hand and saw that one.
Would it be recommended to purchase a normal battery or a dry cell battery?

Thanks

I have the same battery in the drift car, I would highly recommend it with the bracket if you use your car daily or have a trickle charger, but if you dont use it too often it will lose its charge quite quickly

If you have the option, I\'d avoid those Odyssey\'s - they will dies if you accidentally deep cycle them. A few drain\'s and they\'re properly dead.

I had one and now use a Westco MX5 battery - car starts a hell of a lot more easily, and can be left fo rabout 3 weeks without any issue at all.

Hi,

Thanks guys. It turned out that my battery had totally gone and i need  to pick up soonish, so i went to Halford\'s, Haywards Rotary also  mentioned Halfords as a place to look at getting it.

I have no experience with drycell batteries, but from what a couple of  you said, it may not be the best time for me to invest in one yet, the  car does not come out all that much as it needs a bit of work here and  there, but hopefully in a couple of months it will be out more.
I will take your advice about the dry cell\'s.

Thanks.

I had one of those for 2mths before it expanded and stopped working after a track day (in summer heat)

i now have this:
http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/Performance/Electrical/Batteries/Varley_Red_Top_40_Battery/642/0/14546
•    Exceptionally High Cranking Power For Size
•    High Shock And Vibration Resistance
•    Maintenance Free, Sealed Construction
•    Lightweight And Compact
•    No Topping Up Required
•    Can Be Installed Upright Or On Their Side
•    No Electrolyte Leakage (Even When Outer Case Is Damaged)

..bought a second one yesterday as my mounts broke and it got caught in the pulleys (luckily no other damage and caught it as it happened) and it got shredded, it still worked but didn\'t hold charge. This battery won\'t leak if damaged - now proven :o
