Title: Hello
Post by: Switch on December 14, 2010, 07:22:44 PM
Hi everybody life long fd lover here
Currently I don\'t actually own one unfortunately but will eventually
I\'m here to learn something and scrounge pretty much!
I\'m a fully qualified mechanic living in northwich down the road from wgt (nearly)! Even applied for a job a while back but my old boss gave me a horrible reference so they wouldnt hire me doh
I am very clued up on my hondas and nissans have 3 projects infact! An s14, k10 Micra, impreza currently.
So I\'m here learn about the rotary engine I know the basics but I\'d like to rebuild a 13b engine so I can understand how it all works. Then I\'d quite like to attempt to drop it into one of my project cars, any advice on how I\'d go about this rebuild or point me in the direction of a CHEAP engine that needs a rebuild would be very grateful

So thanks for reading and I\'ll try my best to help people in the club with anything I can
Cheers guys

Welcome to MRC :D

Hopefully a search on here across nine years of posts via the search button will help you on the road to FD ownership, however if you need any help we have many good people on here willing to answer questions,

if you\'re wanting to rebuild an engine I\'d suggest either getting a workshop manual for one, or buying the Rebuild dvd\'s.

An S5 engine ( taken from the second gen turbo II\'s) will be a lot cheaper than the engine from the FD even though the engines are pretty simpler.

When rebuilding, just make sure you tolerance everything!!

Thanks mate so the older engine is cheaper? 13bt instead of 13b rew right?

yea. TBH depends on you\'re end goal. A 13b rew may be easier to fit (they have different engine mounts). If you\'re just looking to rotorize something with an aim for around 300ish bhp, the s5 motor will be cheaper. its really dependant on what you want from the engine

350 bhp would be a nice amount for my s14

350 can be achieved fairly easily on an s5 motor. you\'ll need a hybrid turbo and supporting mods, maybe something slightly bigger like a t04e.

But dam, i want a rotorized s14 so much. It\'d be awesome!

I know that\'s why I\'m gonna do it, I\'ll easily get 350 bhp from my sr20det but I want to be different!

yea 350 from a rotor would be much nicer too, with alot more scope for more power!

Around 400bhp and an sr needs forging and a skyline gearbox as both the stock items will go bang
