Title: fd buying help
Post by: work2drift on December 12, 2010, 02:00:29 AM
Hey
not sure if this in the right section,

Been really busy with my s14 but some one emailed me this

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320627996084#ht_500wt_1156

Sounds like it needs quite a bit of work but I don\'t mind that I have asked for more pics.

I am getting used to rust control and repair so shouldn\'t be a problem, Got a few metres of sheet steel should be enough hopefully :Laugh

What do you guys think? Price wise? Your the experts :god

I\'m itching to get a FD but I don\'t want to be too hasty I don\'t mind putting in the work but don\'t want a complete heap if you understand me :xconfused

look like a good base to start with! with regards to the engine get a compression test it will give u an indication if its a healthy engine! in the range of 7 for both front and rear rotors would be good!

I don\'t have a compression tester tho :/

Where is the common places they rust?

Buying an Fd blind would be one if the most silly things you could possibly do. Seriously go view it. Especially if he seems to think it needs a welder to kook at it. No import should have rust on it unless it\'s been here over 10 years

Yeah but my 200sx only had a bit of rust on the sills I\'ve ended up cutting out the most of the rear sills and rail. but Yh i see your point about the import.

The reason I would just buy is it doubt I\'ll give him much over £1500 and I could break it to get my cash back (hopefully) also We don\'t have the Q5 to tow anymore. So I would have to get a company to been it down to birmingham anyway.

How hard is a manual conversion on a the fd?

its no ones car off here is it?

I\'ll give you a call dave thanks

anyway got a reply

"The rust is in the sills (both sides) and there it needs a plate welding on the back of the chassis. The seats are red leather but the passenger side has a couple of holes in the seat base. The back wheel arches are untidy and need some work, The paintwork is not great. No compression results. I drove the car back from Manchester. Turbos seem to be working. No water leaks that I know of. I have had the car for a year now but I have not started the project. I have lost interest."

So what do you guys thinks its worth?
I will go and have a look just going to hire a 7.5 tonne truck to get it back.

Without sounding rude why bother? A blown engine in a good shell is one thing but a blown engine in a rusty shell seems so much hard work! There\'s a nice looking FD3S on the FDUK site that has a good shell but just a blown motor, this would be a far better choice but obviously it\'s up to you. There\'s an old saying that goes "You can\'t polish a turd"........worth a thought :chat
Dave.
